WOW - my mistake. But then 99% of the worlds population dont use the stupid American date format.

America does a lot of things most people find stupid. From the metric system to a TV culture.

That same culture has seemed to have ruined most of the minds that have posted thus far. The OP is probably a troll rejoicing a fun time in a fun game. He/she blatantly insulted WoW but for god's sake, I think WoW deserves as much at most times. Or at least the players do.

10 million, which a large majority are now Asian and an even more startling percentage of which are polar bears hiding in the basements of adults who thought they had children. The majority of WoW players won't be switching because they are the arrogants who believe their life should center around "being with" 24 other people in static hell for a few hours or are too busy getting phat lewts that weren't really earned so much as sat around for.

Four years of WoW and all I can say is Death Knights can go try to suck a doorknob.

Edit: And no, I don't agree with the OP that WAR will obliterate WoW, but it's funny to watch people walk up and slap it in the face once and a while. People left for Lotro, people left for AoC, people left for every other little game. To me it just means there's a large group of people who really don't want to play WoW but don't want trash - and aren't giving up on the search.

I think WAR will be good for WOW. A little challenge in the market will encourage blizzard to improve WOW.

WOW has been great for the MMO market - millions more MMO players. WHich means potentially lots more

Its also been bad for the MMO market - everyone wants a slice of the $1.5 billion per year WOW pie. So most games are following the same EQ2 / WOW type model.

WOW has taken 4 years to reach 10 million players - I dont see WAR getting there overnight. EA & Mythic arent trying to dethrone WOW anyway so why does anyone else care?

Play the games you enjoy and dont worry about what other people think.

    I will be playing WAR.

Why would anyone want WoW to lose its subscribers? In my opinion, any game that comes out to beat WoW's numbers would have to be even more pathetic and watered down than WoW is, or absolutely revolutionary. Warhammer is neither, thankfull. It won't beat WoW, and thank god for that. I don't want to play a WORSE version of WoW, its bad enough already.

Since the majority of WoW players are in Asia, WAR isn't going to dent that number until it gets over there and if they like it....

Not that matters who's epeen is bigger.

    Well, your mistake AGAIN.

    US pop ~ 300M

    World pop ~ 6.6T

US has around 4.5% of the world population. Can you look things up in google and do division?

    "Here they go again."

I have never figured out the mentality that one mmo has to beat out the other.   Most of the poeple want to see wow come crashing down don't even play wow.  Sure there are some who play wow and are getting tired of the every day grind that is almost ever PVE game.   I plan on playing WAR but I am still going to play Wow.

Like some have posted before, WAR is mainly PVP oriented while Wow is more PVE.  Though Wow offers PVP on the side PVE is the main focus.   If you play WOW for the PVP then most likely your the one that will leave.  Most PVE players don't want to PVP.  Even though the server I play on is PVP most in my guild don't like to PVP.  Only a few mention WAR.  A few mention they are going to play it and like me will play War but not quite Wow.  War and Wow are to mmos which approach mmo gaming from two different ways.  War is PVP first while Wow is pve first.  Two different player pools.  If anything was going to be compete with Wow it would have been AoC, but that did not come close.

I do find it funny that on the one hand people say "oh Wow is going to loose its player population."  Then the other side goes well they are all Asians as if that is all who play wow.  Last I checked my sever still has a stable heavy population that all speaks english.

I hope War is as good as everyone says because I think it will fill a nitch in the mmo world that been missing.  A very good pvp rvr mmo.  That is why I am looking forward to playing it, but I still am going to play wow and hope the WotLK is also a success.  One does not have to kill the other.   And despite the failure of Funcom I had wished AOC would have been a good game too.  Need more mmo success than failures.

Uhh... AoC failed because the game was made poorly, performance was bad, vast majority of features were missing, and because the game was in no way original.

WAR is made by a solid company with a great track record, and building off of a massively successful PvP system they invited (RVR). This will not be a disaster. It may not be around forever, but already it has more subs than AoC ever did and nowhere near the amount of complaints.

I hope WoW keeps its fan base. Do you know how hard it is to get rid of that kind of pest infestation once its in YOUR house?

Id just like to throw in there that the population as of today is moot as the only people playing are ones who preordered the game.

If 2 million people left WoW, Blizz would still have 8 million and still be on top. To think that they would shed so much as a tear, or even a nervous chuckle, is ridiculous. WAR is not going to harm WoW.

Ah yes, the new Holy Grail of MMO's, last one was AoC and that didn't turn out too well.

What is the next one for the ardent crusaders? Aion?

    TCOS after that.

    Earthrise after that.

    Fallen Earth after that.

And so on and so forth...

And onwards to infinity, each and every one will probably consist of too much hype and too little content.

Well, let us see how well Warhammer does after a few months. My bet would be not too grand but not too bad. Unles the game cures cancer it will fail to live to its own reputation.

Well Blzzard have spend 200million over the last 4 years on the upkeep of wow just to keep the servers running and the staff paid.

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/zd/20080916/tc_zd/232075

It aint cheap running an MMO.

And to the OP, this is what I say. And I bought WAR but spend all of 3 hours in it yesterday and have no desire to fire it back up, was queued for a Battlegorund the whole time and it never happened.. so much for RvR. (was the same in beta thought it might get better in retail.. I was wrong) and the poor animations continue, any mob/player more than about 20 feet from you looks like a 5 frame animated gif. LOL

You're probably right, but I think it's a problem of most (if not all) MMOs: too little content and too much expectations. I'm not sure 'hype' is the right word, perhaps 'hope' would be better. Plus it seems that many players rush through the content of a new MMO, little as there is, and reach the level cap in one or two weeks. And the the moaning and b***hing starts: not enough content, bugs, etc. I'm glad I'm a casual player with lots of other things to do besides playing MMOs. That leaves me months of play and the opportunity to actually read the text of the quests... :)

Played: AC, AC2, Anarchy Online, AoC, D&D Online, Dark+Light, EQ2, EVE Online, FF XI, Guild Wars, Lineage II, Lotro, Ragnarok, Ryzom, Star Wars Galaxies, Ultima Online, WAR, WoW, etc. Also various MUDs

Please note I never said that WAR will kill WoW.  Just that WoW is old now...  It has done what it needs to do, and  WOTLK will not bring much life back into it.  Also I do not hate WoW, infact I think it is a Fantasic MMO...I had alot of fun times with it.

So many people are saying this topic is about WAR destroying WoW, that is not true and I never mentioned that in any of my posts.  Please don't make stuff up. :P

How many of these 10 million subscribers are acutally real players and not gold farmers?

    You're all silly unbelievers.

Lord of the Rigs Online, Age of Conan, Warhammer Online will steal tons of subscribers from WoW!!!

although i don't like wow and never play it...i don't think it will lose its players all..and it's the leader of this kind of games.

    Tried WAR beta...

Haven't played WoW since first of the year...

    Going back to WoW.

WAR's combat just doesn't cut the mustard for me, especially for PvP.

WAR will do just fine I am sure... if it's combat had a better "feel" to it I would say it could have put a real hurt on WoW.

While I want something to replace WoW, wanted it to be WAR, I don't see anything doing it this year now.

Darkfall has me curious, but it will all come down to the playability for me once again I fear.  Not to mention I already have a bad taste with all that they indicate will be in it.  If they do what they have descibed and the "combat feel" is there, I'm there.

Hate to be the one to break it to you, but a whole lot of asians speak english.

Just to pip in on the subject of asians and asian culture in general.

IMO War has a huge potential there because it emphasizes social play which appeals more to asian sense of "togethereness". PvP and competition, especially group vs group will have a huge appeal as well. IMO, psychologically WAR's basic premise is closer to asian (all-together-now) than western (me-me-me!) culture.

The only thing that is, maybe, going against WAR in asian markets is the graphic direction which is quite subdued in colors and general cartoonyshness. Asian art never shirked away from stylizations and grotesque or got hung on "realism" (thats' one of the legacies of renaissance)  We'll see how it'll pan out once it goes live in asia.

Well keep an eye on those WAR servers a few days after launch.

Because both in open Beta and in pre-launch, the servers were far from FULL after 2 days of play after an initial player explosion.

The game is far from being a MMORPG. It's counterstrike with a twist. It's as far from WoW as TF2 is IMO.Good for some days of playing, but WAR is about to break the record of fastest boring MMORPG ever.

    ------

Real PvP?--> Ice blocking a charging warrior, give him the finger and mount. ---> Or mind control that annoying healer and let him jump to his own death. Now, that's PvP.

Every WAR copy sold is free publicity for WotLK.
