Obama refused to accept McCain's offer of doing ten town-hall style debates; opting instead the 3 very controlled debates that he agreed to; that's the chicken in the roost. It is ludicrous to think that McCain is being chicken when he has suspended his campaign. he asked to postpone, not cancel. Obama is the one showing he places politics first -- and that he is no leader. Interpret it any way you want to. I'm no McCain fan but I know a good move when I see it.
I think the town hall argument is a little weak. When was the last time we ever had a town hall format for a presidential debate? Debates are a very big deal, and are a sacred part of our general elections (if anything in politics can be called "sacred anymore). Major elections have been won by debates. JFK, Lincoln and other great leaders trounced their opponents in formal debates, and that helped them win the big ticket.
Asking Obama to change to a town hall setting would be like asking Adrian Peterson to play a rugby match instead of the Vikes game Sunday. Why agree to something that has no precedence and caters to your opponent's strengths? We all know McCain likes the Town Hall format since his scripted lines sound better, and he can manage the crown more. Obama is a grandiose speaker, and requires a big stage. Thankfully enough, presidential debates are on a big stage since we are talking one of the most powerful positions in the world.
The debates must go on. The GOP was legit with postponing the RNC due to the hurricane, but this is uncalled for. This election is monumentally important, and now more than ever, we need to see the two candidates challenge each other, and to see who has the better ideas.
No he was asking for ten town hall debates in addition to standard debates; obama chickened out. watch how it goes down. McCain asks to postpone for the sake of the country. Obama, snotty child that he is, says, no, the debate must go on, I can walk and chew gum at the same time. Since OBAMA refused to postpone, McCain then shows up and debates, but walks in there in the position of "I chose country first, YOU, SENATOR Obama, chose politics first."
Once again McCain has thrown Obama off game. Watch.
It is as if you completely mis interpreted Dis Ordur's post. Not only do you stubbornly go on, you ridicule Obama by saying he "chickened out" and "snotty child that he is." A note for you, your childish insults and complete disregard to what someone says come off as immature.
Oh, how so? Obama did chicken out, and to claim that he can walk and chew gum at the same time, as a personal insult to McCain, is another example of his behaving like the snotty child that he is. He is not fit for the White House, and he has been showing that all along. He is a nasty little man, and has nothing to do with hope or change.
You are free to disagree -- but note I am NOT attacking YOU as YOU attacked me. I attack Obama, who is the guy running, and YOU take it personally and attack ME. Which one is the immature one> I would say the one who can't handle his candidate being insulted without resporting to personal attacks
This is the first forum where I actually seen McCain being the bad guy for wanting to postpone the debate because he needs to do his job as Senator to fix the economical crises. Other forums, including some pro Obama are saying he (Obama) should postpone to get this crises fixed; debates can always be rescheduled. The economy cannot. Some of you guys....I mean....do you try really hard to act foolish or does it come naturally?
Damn't Enigma. As soon as I heard about McCain doing this I figured that you would be one of the few on these boards to call him out for a political stunt. I guess I was wrong.
Come on people. McCain wants to win this campaign. Obama wants to win the campaign. Every single second from now until November 4th will find these guys being 100% political. McCain made this move because he thought it would win him the election. Obama called his bluff because he thinks it will win him the election to do so. It is a political move aimed straight at the stupid people out there who will eat it up and spew it back out with giant stupid grins on their faces. As soon as McCain announced this every single Republican interviewed all said "This makes McCain look Presidential", "This shows McCain is a leader", "This shows McCain puts his country ahead of his campaing". It sounds nice but it is complete bull. Fine, it is campaign strategy, but recognize it for what it is.
I want the debates. I want to see what Obama or McCain can do in a debate. Obama wasn't being "Snotty" in saying No to McCain, he was being my candidate. I was proud as hell he called McCain out. Kerry, as much as I liked him, might have folded. McCain took what was to be a joint-statement and warped it into a political move. He said "I hope Obama follows me". In other words, I hope Obama jumps on the bitch seat. I even heard Hannity setting the trap up by make sure to point out over and over Obama was going to "follow McCain".
i guess thatd cool to do , if he didnt already have a job of Senator. so im glad he was doing the thing you want but what if he is your Senator?. I mean this IS without doubt the most important legislation going this year (possibly decade) , if he was my state id damn well want him there involved. And wouldnt you want your candidate there taking a lead role? or just hearing about it 2nd hand? how many of you guys defending Obama also bashed no Bush for not being there when the trade center got hit , only dealing with it second hand just curious.
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.
Sorry bud, but since my head is Not up my ass right now, I'm clear-headed enough to know Obama can do absolutely everything he needs to without actually being in Washington D.C.

What it shows to me is McCain is incapable of multi-tasking. It also shows that he's trying to control the debates before he even enters into them. "we'll debate when im damn good and ready" control freak attitude is nothing but attention whoring. He acts as if he can only do one or the other and nobody really seems to question this.
Coincidentally, he also asked the democrats to join him and cease airing political campaign commercials.
"If you want a picture of the future, imagine a robot foot stomping on a human face -- forever."
Sorry but that is BS. Both McCain and Obama should have both been there for the questioning, they should be helping write this thing, not worrying about arguing about it, they need to stop slinging mud right now and get down in the mud with the rest of our senators rather than sit back and wait like innocent bystanders waiting to mop it up afterwards.

The thing most of you are missing is that Obama never said he didnt want to be a part of this. Hell, he initiated the dialogue that started this entire thing with McCain.
McCain turned around and said basically he couldnt do both the debate and discussions on the crisis. He asked to postpone the debate as well as pull political ads from commercials until the issue was resolved. Obama said no, the debates will continue as planned and we should also discuss the financial crisis.
the only thing republicans are hearing is obama didnt agree with McCain so he must not care about the issue. The fact is, he INITIATED the discussions with McCain on this topic. Therefore, Obama lead the movement for this.

Actually, all Obama says is that he CALLED McCain. It is only after McCain made his statement that Obama claims it was to initiate discussion. Either way it's all moot. The President has summoned them both to the White House tomorrow. Looks like McCain was merely ahead of the curve.

Indeed, because he is not an important member of the senate, nor is he a leader in the party. He has no record of reaching across party lines and forging agreements. That's McCain.

I haven't missed a second of this ... I am pretty pissed that neither McCain or Obama were there for day one of this. The second this happened they should have instead of "talking about it" they should have gone in immediately. They should have been sitting there with the rest of the senators on Cspan grilling them about this. I have gained alot more respect for the senators that were there doing this than either of them right now. They CAN write this, They are a part of this, it is their job and they should be doing it. I could give a rats behind about "who started dialog" That is not what this situation called for, there is no reason this should have been going on for days before they decided to do anything. This Takes precident over everything else they have going on. I have seen their voting records and I am absolutly disgusted with both of them on the sheer number of NVs they have, they are in office to vote, to make the decsions and if we are electing them to run this country they have even more responsiblity to show us what they can do. SHOW ME DON"T TELL ME. Their numbers of NV's are dispicable, If they can;t even do their jobs as senators, how can they run this country?

Nicely said. This is why, when you decide to run for president, you should leave the Senate. This whole tactic of hedging one's bets is lame.
The Palin bounce is over and done with. I think he's hoping for a Paulson bounce. News flash John, Paulson isn't even remotely folksy or cute.
Obama gains momentum and McCain loses momentum. He's simply trying to stop the bleeding.
Speaking of bleeding, McCain hasn't seen fit to cast a vote since April. He has missed more votes this year than any other senator (including those recovering from brain hemmorhages ).
So, please excuse me if I'm a little skeptical of his motives.

Don't say anything nice about either of them right now.. they are both disgusting! I wish I could vote for the senators that actually rolled their sleeves up and are down there fighting this out right now instead of EITHER of these guys. Shameful .. just shameful.
I've never heard of a politician that wouldn't be interested when the government is writing blank checkes. All those billions are being handed out and you expect him to sit in some TV-show? Phleese.
McCain has to pre-plan where he is going because he goes there by bus. Its not like he commits a jetliner to take him to Washington every other day. I think this issue is something that McCain has to address due to its severity. Unlike Obama, McCain isn't apart of the majority in the senate. If he isn't there to offer support to his party against bailouts then he faces problems within his presidency that the Senate he was apart of had a hand in making.
What Both candidates need to realize that is if we have an economic meltdown before the election, martial law will be declared and the poles will not even be open on Nov 4. This is part of our defense protocol in such an event. They cannot simply wait 40 days and then mop it up afterwards, they needed to act days ago on this. They are not even Guaranteeing that if we do this bailout that it will stop the meltdown from happening. They are saying they are doing this in the hopes of stopping this from happening. I have no idea why both Senator Obama or Senator McCain were too busy " discussing things" than get down there and help solve this issue now. They were just sitting back and watching all of the other senators write this without them? GEEZE if they can't handle this situation as it happnes, how the hell do we expect them to run this country.
The thing im sick of hearing about on every forum is "Liberals suck" "Conservatives can go to hell" babble. Can we just call ourselves Americans for Christ's sake. I am voting Mccain, which I know will give me heat right off the bat, but you know what that does not mean I consider myself a full fledged conservative just because of where my vote is going. I think everyone needs a refresher course in what a Liberal or a conservative really is and really look at both canidates closely before making generalizations. I think Mccain is for change, I just do not think he puts the message across as strong as Obama does.
Also you need to look at history, today people seem to think Republican means "Hates change, never tries anything new, and hates the people". Its really very wrong, if you look at history Republicans have done alot of good, its the bad apple of Bush who seem to throw the blame on rest of the Republicans out there.
On Topic, I think Mccain should go, because as it has been stated hes needed, postponing the debate, does not seem like a harsh thing to do, I do agree the timing is very bad for Mr. Mccain.

Reading that last sentance this is what came to mind, haha!

LMAO! 1. I do not drink coffee, and hatebreed is more calming to me than jazz ( ewww) 2. I breathe just fine tyvm I was a lifeguard so I am sure I breathe better than just fine 3. Even with this smaller sum, and the larger sum and then like 10 more they still may not resolve this mess, just send us more and more into debt. This is like putting a bandaid on someone with the flu, it is not even treating the symptoms. And though you and I may sit "pretty" through all of this, there are many I know that are already losing their homes, have lost their homes, and whose Jobs will be directly linked to their decsions here. To me this is important enough to get upset about. I do not have confidence in this committee from the answers they have given thus far, I do not have confidence in handing them any amount of money to solve it, and I am disgusted with the behavior of some of those that should be writing this bill instead of worrying about their popularity contest. And YES I am very proud to be one of our American "GUN TOTING" women. I have a glock 40, 15 round clip, laser grip . That a problem? My mother owns a firearm, my grandmother owns a firearm, and my grandmother before her carried a firearm. My grandfather was a marine, and taught me how to use a firearm as a child. We have the right to defend ourselves and we should use it. removing that right is forcing us to be victims.

I agree, i am tired of the BS nonsense mudslinging back and forth and i want to hear what these guys will actually do for our country. I want to show us by their actions and I haven't seen enough from either of them that makes me feel confident in their ability to handle the issues they will be dealing with. The mudslinging needs to stop and they are overdue in getting down in the mud and fixing these problems with actions instead of acting like innocent bystanders. They ARE SENATORS and have jobs to do that they have been ignoring. Sure they both are applying for the presidency, but why would we want either of them when they aren;t doing the job they have right now?

The mudslinging goes back and forth because there's not a lick's difference between them -- merely emphasis.
McCain is center right, Obama's center left. Obama WAS different on Foreign policy, but once ge won the nomination, he began to reposition himself so now he is barely different than McCain on that one.
Neither one is trustworthy, and what they say now has little or nothing to do with what they'll do when they get elected.
And yeah have been delinquent Senators while they've been running. This is why Senators should resign when they run. Governmors have Lt. Governors to work for them in their place. Senators don't.

I agree completely with this, here should be a rule/law that says public officials should resign while running for office. Though I'm sure Bush would have LOVED to have 2 Democrat Senators resign for the next few months.
Oh and quick jab....I noticed this morning the quickest way to McCains office in D.C. was through Katie Courics interview desk. Lettermans responses were funny as hell. Honestly, whoever of his aids thought that would be a good idea should have been bitch slapped.

Well, yeah -- but this is one of the many reasons I don't like Senators in the white house.
LOL. I watched that bit too -- it was hysterical
Thanks for reminding me..I was meaning last night to post that on my blog!

I haven't missed a second of this ... I am pretty pissed that neither McCain nor Obama weren't there for day one of this.

Mccain.

@ deviliscious
Put down the coffee and turn on some jazz. Breath in through your nose and out through your mouth. Slow, deep breaths. Congress can offer a smaller sum in the interim while the finer details get resolved. Don't get so upset. This isn't end times.
By the way, do you happen to be a gun owner?
Reading that last sentance this is what came to mind, haha!
The right to Bear Arms

LMAO!

"If we don't attack them, they will attack us first. So we'd better retaliate before they have a chance to strike"

Well, yeah -- but this is one of the many reasons I don't like Senators in the white house.
LOL. I watched that bit too -- it was hysterical
Thanks for reminding me..I was meaning last night to post that on my blog!
EDIT: Done! thanks again
