wish someone would give WOW some reason to worry but haven't seen it by the way i do not play WOW am currently playing WAR till my 30 days is up and will then be on another wait and see spell
no kidding, this genre sux, but at least fallout 3 is on the way, and i hear mass effect is good...
So I spend 100 hours getting gear for my char and now I might as well have never played. Blizzard wrecked the game again but this time watch the mass exodus to alternates. Blizzard got drunk on profits and forgot that the customer matters first. WOTLK is all the same stuff with new colors.
So I spent over 1.400 hours at level 70 ....and you spent 100 ...
And im really looking forward to Wotlk ....And I can tell you this,im not the only one.
I'll take your word on it, but I don't remember it.
I do know that with both BC and now with Wrath they are upping the minimum system requirements. Of course that's pretty laughable considering they are still extremely low. I wish I still had my old pentium 60 laying around so I could see if I could get wow to run on it.
They are actually improving a lot of stuff, as in making it a better theme park grindfest. But there is absolutely no change in the main aspects of WoW's gameplay, and i really didn't expect any. They're netting good cash with the current system and it seems that's their main concern.
Their unanounced next-gen MMO seems interesting, but the chances that they will come out with something innovative, breaking the current MMO mold are very, very low.

So you only played 100 hours? Must be a low low character with grey and green gears than. Present day Wow players just love the new gear rewards put out every 6 months (be it through Arena, BG, new dungeons, raids, professions, crafting, etc ...). That argument you are using was one of the late 2006. Since then we all buy, sell, quest new items every 6 months or so. You also buy a new shirt and pants every 6 months in RL no ? Nice try, But do keep up the effort.
This is the biggest problem with WOW and all other MMO's that follow suit. Instead of having a living and breathing world that you can mold and diversify your charater in. Everyone now has become that hampster on a wheel, mindlessly grinding, questing, or whatever for that epeen gear. Please tell me that this is not what MMORPG's has become. Nothing more than a grindfest clothing show. Where dev's every so often throw a new bone out and the masses follow blindlessly like a bunch of zombies. Please don't get me wrong. I think WOW serves a purpose and has it's place in the MMO world. It's just that if you sit back and look not only at WOW, but almost every other major MMO, it's all the same. MMORPG"s are supposed to be full of life, character advancement, through actions and things that you do on a daily basis. Clothing and gear shouldn't be the end all be all of anything. Yes i have played WOW and have 2 lvl 70 toons. I am also playing WAR and except for the RVR pretty much is the same game in a differant skin. My highest toon in that game is a 23 and i am doing and feeling the same exact thing i felt while i played WOW. Start a toon ,grind and do quest for a little and collect better gear. Get board with it, start over, rinse and repeat. The same has happened with COH/COV, Vanguard, EQ2, Tabula Rasa, AOC and pretty much every other cookie cutter class/ lvl based MMO i have played. If these are the things that keep the majority on their toes filled with excitment, the MMORPG genre is in big trouble.
I agree with your analysis about your standard linear level based MMO's. In fact I became so dejected with the "hamster" mentality pushed by developers that I started looking for a game where players shape the world. The one game I found that fits my needs and tastes was EVE Online. If you are ready for a change and can bare the steep learning curve then EVE can be a very nice game for those seeking to change and effect a virtual game world. Then again EVE might not be for you so I would suggest you check out any and all sand box MMO's out there to find one you like. Hopefully CCP/Whitewolf will also do a fine job with the World of Darkness MMO they are developing as they did with EVE in terms of allowing players to shape and mold their own game world.
Games I've played/tried out:WAR, LOTRO, Tabula Rasa, AoC, EQ1, EQ2, WoW, Vangaurd, FFXI, D&DO, Lineage 2, Saga Of Ryzom, EvE Online, DAoC, Guild Wars,Star Wars Galaxies, Hell Gate London, Auto Assault, Grando Espada ( AKA SoTNW ), Archlord, CoV/H, Star Trek Online, APB, Champions Online, FFXIV, Rift Online, GW2.
The advantage of Wow is that YOU can play the game YOU want .
So WotLK DOES give yet other options to play it:
- Choice between 25 men Raids and 10 men Raids.
- Concentrated hi end world Pv¨P and since WAR, we know that too spread out world PvP is simply not a success.
- Achievements. Giving players even MORE choices of play.

They added in so much stuff in Wrath and your only complaint is "Progression" which is really a pathetic reason to Q.Q
RPGs are BASED around level building, so what your saying is you don't like RPGs when you say you don't like Progression.
go play counter strike...
Oh and if you're unaware as to all the changes they're making in Wrath, you are simply out of the loop and unable to google i guess... the changes are so massive and game changing that the entire dynamic of the game shall be different.
I'm IN LOVE with what wrath is bringing to the table
Actually half way throught TBC they did low the polygon counts for females models. I remember reading it in the patch notes for 2.3 ... i think. This is in no way WOW hate, but the facts are the facts.
Spent two hours looking for this in 2.3
and I looked through a few other patches too...
I think you are horribly mistaken, I can find nothing to referense a lowering of the polygon count of anything in WoW ever.
Blizzard is suffering from too many accounts syndrome whereby the company loses touch with the original base of players and starts analyzing subscriber sentiment via alternate mediums usually broken down to income and costs.
I'm happy I left the game before grinding endlessly the raids and honor.
Personally I'm not looking forward WOTLK first because there is no new game mechanics then it still has the same issues :
Raid loot distribution and BOP
Look based on stats, not on how you want your character look like
Grind, farming... rince and repeat.
Arena gear > anything else
I agree they are killing their player base with the new levels = you wasted you time grinding raids.
I won't pay for an expansion with "only" a new zone and well 2 classes...
Add housing, underwater encouters, social clothing, new races and multiples new classes and promote socialization THEN you are speaking. See you in another 2 years for the next extension.

1. Raid loot distribution and BOP - I'm not sure what game has a system other than BOP for endgame raids. Blizzard is adding 'bind on account' items so you can help your alts. They also added token drops which help with loot distribution. I just don't think a game would work if the best gear drops were BOE... everyone in the raid would be rolling 'need' and then selling them on the AH.
2. You want to do a raid and not get gear that makes you more able to do harder raids? Many of WOW raids already drop cosmetic things (pets, mounts, talbards)
3. Every MMORPG has grinding. Blizzard does a good job of giving you many options for endgame grinding.. heroics, raids, BGs, Arena, Dailies, Crafting, Acheivements... there are so many different things to do, if you rotate doing them, it doesn't feel like a grind at all. Other games don't have anywhere near the amount of different things to do at endgame.
4. Arena gear is the best pvp gear. The best pve gear you get from instances. One of the problems with pvp gear which the devs admitted is they have a hard time finding a way to 'quantify' who a good player is in BGs.. therefore they don't want to give the best pvp gear to players who don't actually excel, but just show up. They are working on the issue and I'd expect by christmas there will be some kind of ranking system in BGs, which will then allow them to give the best(or equal) gear in BGs.

I've played since origional WoW, I'm excited about Wrath.
I guess they didn't lose touch with THIS player, or ANYONE in my guild for that matter, and most people who post on this forum have stated that they are looking forward to Wrath, only a few people who are NEW to the game are upset about progression, the rest of us were expecting it.
Three cheers for Wrath, and for all the changes in 3.0.2!

100 Hours getting gear? are you talking about greens? blues? hell, if your talking epic's, then you need to share your secret. I think we all want to know how to get tier sets in 100 hours.

I agree with you about housing.. its the one thing I've seen in another game that I want in WOW.
1) DDO had it till they implemented the dragon encounter. (that's when I left)
Tokens could have been a good idea tought it takes way too many tokens to get gear and still the items given with tokens are worse than the ones you are getting as BOP.
I don't see any non solvable issue with BOE and rolling, even against goldsellers.
2) No, I meant you have to wear this or that item because of the stats, not because you WANT to wear it. So your look isn't really your decision.
3) Grinding is way to high in WoW, even Bioware saying that and they do respec WoW success. Also in Wow there is nothing to do than killing stuff, as crafting = killing for gathering mats.
4) We'll see.
5) Housing and guild halls, with items / trophies displaying!
Raiding is one of the reasons I left WoW this time around. Makes at least 4 times I have left since release. I end up going back because so far I have not enjoyed anything else as much. I return to wow and reroll a new toon. I don't mind levelling in wow but the raiding is a killer for me. I would love to see 5 man versions of all the raid dungeons. I really don't care about the epic loot. They can scale it down for the 5 man versions I just don't want to deal with the raiders in the wow community I have met inmates serving life with better manners.

I'm sorry to hear about your troubles finding good people to play with, I myself have found a guild that is almost like an internet family, very close knit buch of friends.
Any MMO can have a bad experiance, the odds of you finding an asshole in 5k players (per server on average) is pretty high, especially in a video game, most gamers aren't friendly, however if you find a group of people who you can relate to and have fun with then this game is really really fun.
But I agree with you, Raiding is no fun with morons, jerks, or elitists.
I think a whole new world, tons of quests, siege weapons, vehicles, new items, a new profession, new instances, hairstyles, music, bosses, instances, a new class and 10 more levels to enjoy and much more.
I think that is plenty enough for an expansion
(And no, i don't care about the nerds that farm gear 24/7. Hell, isn't it just better that your gear is getting out of date quickly so you can start farming for new gear faster? Because we all know it's not THAT fun to "pwn" noobs in BG and stand /afk in IF with the best gear just to just shine)

1. I meant tokens, not badges.. but yeah, badges work too. I can see your opinion, but i disagree. I would hate to be in a raid, have an item drop that I need, have someone who doesn't need it win the roll, and then have to go and buy it on the AH from that player. Overall it would balance out since you would proabbly win a roll and then sell the item to them. It's all just opinion though, I see your side of it.
2. Oh yeah... agree with this one. Warhammer and UO allow you to color your armor and LoTRO has it so you can wear your real armor underneath, but show whatever else you wanted. I know why Blizzard is doing this though... in UO.. the game got 'ugly' because players were able to really make themselves hideous. I remember going to West Brit bank and it looked like a clown blew up. They also want geat to be a way for you to be recognized in pvp. Again, i'll agree, a little more customization, but not so much that the game gets ugly.
3. Again.. saying a game is too much of a grind is a relative thing. Show me a game that you can play for 20hrs a week that doesn't involve grinding. Bioware may have noticed this, but until a game fixes it,.. i'm going to say it's just a part of playing a MMORPG. and like I said.. there are so many things I can do in WOW, that I rarely feel like I'm grinding. Do a couple dailies, a couple battlegrounds, run a herioc instance, craft some gear, play some arena games....If you do 3 dailys, 2 battlegrounds, a heroic dungeon and 5 arena games... you've just played 4 hours without grinding anything. Now if you want to, you can grind something, but you can also do a ton of things for 15 mins each.

1) Easy, trade it for another item you have and he needs or gold he could use to buy one on the AH
I quit DDO some time ago but there wheren't any issues with loot distribution ever as chest = 1+ item for everyone. Most of the time people passed down unusable items to others.
3) SWG before NGE.
As a note I hate the roll system on end loot distibution.
Why does most of the all the players that participate in a RAID don't get a reward? How fair is that?
Either give an item or the same token to all of them.
So I spend 100 hours getting gear for my char and now I might as well have never played. Blizzard wrecked the game again but this time watch the mass exodus to alternates. Blizzard got drunk on profits and forgot that the customer matters first. WOTLK is all the same stuff with new colors.
Says the WAR fanboy lol. WAR failed. They failed to do anything better than any other MMO out right now.

Were is the excitement in that? If something is given to you everytime, then it becomes common and pretty boring.

this is the only player model change I'm aware of

Apparently Blizzard spent some time rebuilding all the player models for Patch 2.4 in order to increase performance.
I have no clue if this has anything to do with polygon counts

One of the problems with pvp gear which the devs admitted is they have a hard time finding a way to 'quantify' who a good player is in BGs.. therefore they don't want to give the best pvp gear to players who don't actually excel, but just show up. They are working on the issue and I'd expect by christmas there will be some kind of ranking system in BGs, which will then allow them to give the best(or equal) gear in BGs.

Either give an item or the same token to all of them.
cuz even fps our days get rpg elements.. everyone likes improving their character gear and everything else..
starting from start from time to time is good thing. too
Says the WAR fanboy lol. WAR failed. They failed to do anything better than any other MMO out right now.
WoW Best PVE Ok PVP
DAoC Ok PVE Best PVP
WAR Ok PVP Below Average PVE
Were is the excitement in that? If something is given to you everytime, then it becomes common and pretty boring.
