What I don't understand is way everyone is giving FC so much flak for not having dx10 out yet? dx10 is not going to change the core graphics of the game at all. The only substantial thing DX10 adds, from the screen shots we are given, is ambiance (mist, better water reflections, etc) while making the game look a little smoother, but not by much. Thats it. Nothing special IMO.

Yes. Since AoC was in beta, FC has always said content and features are coming "soon". They are amateurs with no concept of project management. You know what they said in beta when people asked about DX10? They said it won't be in beta because they want to save some content, like DX10 and sieges, for launch so that also beta testers get something new. Now we know the real reason was that sieges were broken and they probably hadn't even started working on the DX10 client. That's Failcom for you. A bunch of incompetent liers.

DX10 was dropped 2 weeks before the launch. The reason they dropped it, was to increase performance across the board for all users, and they did that. If you feel that this was the wrong choice, I don’t know what to tell you, because the focus on performance for all users, in lue of adding DX10, increased playability one hundred fold for EVERYONE.
The communication that this was the case could have been better, sure. But its not deserving of the hissey fit player are making over it, it was the right choice.
And do bring up that it was on the box, the box was printed before this choice was made, booo hooo.
What people are calling lies are simply the reality of development, things happen, stuff gets cut, things don’t work out between on paper, and reality. Could they have been clearer about what was going on, sure? But all of that was a symptom of releasing early.
Please correct me if i am wrong, but if DX10 is such a game breaking issue with you, then you should be just fine with the other issues in the game being present? Correct?

Look through history and you''ll find that the gold master for games have been sent out by around 2 weeks before its retail release, if not earlier. That's following months of testing, internally and public betas (open and closed).
In fact, a quick search shows that AoC went Gold on April 22, just shy of a month before its retail release, of May 20th (in the US).
Outside of a patch typically prepared for retail release to correct some existing issues, a product is pretty much deemed "feature complete, satisfactorily tested and ready for retail" when it "goes Gold."
You seriously believe - or expect anyone else to - it just "snuck up on them" 2 weeks before the game's release - *after* it went gold - that DX10 wasn't ready?

I see the seige weapons are working in the vid, but they didnt when the game released.. He says it wont go that fast on live.. that's because.. 1, they were broke at launch, and 2 it's sped up.

Which is all the more reason to be sick of it. Mythic was the first company to realize people are fed up with these practices. Which is the smartest move made by a gaming company for quite some time. Lying to those who pay your bills is never a good idea, or excusable no matter who or how many do it.

Im 100%ly sure that if they had eddit all promised content including DX10 in the months after the release the number of players that played this game now was around 2x higher
They aren't incompetent, they are just a very small company trying to do big things. If people would realize this instead of just saying they fail all the time then maybe they'd understand why people like me are willing to give them a chance.
On topic: I dont see why people care about dx10 so much, its not like its going to greatly improve the graphics of the game by much, and from what I've seen it will only add more ambiance to the game

Yes. Since AoC was in beta, FC has always said content and features are coming "soon". They are amateurs with no concept of project management. You know what they said in beta when people asked about DX10? They said it won't be in beta because they want to save some content, like DX10 and sieges, for launch so that also beta testers get something new. Now we know the real reason was that sieges were broken and they probably hadn't even started working on the DX10 client. That's Failcom for you. A bunch of incompetent liers.

I did and thats what I saw more ambiance. Its great looking don't get me wrong, but I don't think people should be as upset with the issue as they tend to be.

You have a lot more compassion than I do towards Funcom. The attached video link makes me feel that some of the people at Funcom really should pay back the money, or go to jail for consumer fraud.
.. btw, I believe that dropping DX10 at the last minute was done as a smokescreen, to delay the XBox360 release indefinitely.
That's a funny vid. Hundreds of players.. You mean they didn't know at the time of making that video, that their game could not handle 100's of players in a seige?
I see the seige weapons are working in the vid, but they didnt when the game released.. He says it wont go that fast on live.. that's because.. 1, they were broke at launch, and 2 it's sped up.
This is why people post the way they do here. They were lied to on an epic scale and their pissed. You cant blame them. This vid is false advertising at it's best.

Considering Funcom has been utilizing and heavily promoting DX10 shadows and lighting in all of their recent trailers, the fallout and disgruntlement from this >announcement< ought to be substantial. Guess it must be hard to be their CRM team right now!

It always drives me crazy when people say game devs "Stole" your money. They didn't steal anything, they used marketing to trick you into giving them money whoch makes you gullible. You willingly gave them money, they didn't break into your house or steal your wallet.

Which is all the more reason to be sick of it. Mythic was the first company to realize people are fed up with these practices. Which is the smartest move made by a gaming company for quite some time. Lying to those who pay your bills is never a good idea, or excusable no matter who or how many do it.

Could be a problem yes, because of the lack at high level content and the fact that they don't forfill their promises people quit to play which means that they could get into money trouble (which happened with more MMOrpg devlopers).
Says the guy that posted this "The death of this game will warm the hearts of many here including me." in another AoC thread. You would not just pull stuff like above out of thin air would you?
DX10 was dropped 2 weeks before the launch. The reason they dropped it, was to increase performance across the board for all users, and they did that. If you feel that this was the wrong choice, I don’t know what to tell you, because the focus on performance for all users, in lue of adding DX10, increased playability one hundred fold for EVERYONE.
The communication that this was the case could have been better, sure. But its not deserving of the hissey fit player are making over it, it was the right choice.
And do bring up that it was on the box, the box was printed before this choice was made, booo hooo.
What people are calling lies are simply the reality of development, things happen, stuff gets cut, things don’t work out between on paper, and reality. Could they have been clearer about what was going on, sure? But all of that was a symptom of releasing early.
Please correct me if i am wrong, but if DX10 is such a game breaking issue with you, then you should be just fine with the other issues in the game being present? Correct?

I didn't say anything about DX10 not being ready. Please re-read the post. I have also said time and time again they released to early. Sorry i didn’t put a huge disclaimer and synopsis of my personal views in every post I make. It may help if you read what others post, and not create a straw man.

Sorry, but your usual "condescension and sarcasm" tactics aren't going to work here. I read your post just fine... just as I have read the myriad others you've posted over the past many weeks, tirelessly defending FC against those "pesky nay-sayers", whom more often than not have been proven right.
And the "disclaimer" bit? Much as I acknowledge what you "tried to do there", sorry but that dog won't hunt.
You state that FC decided 2 weeks before the game came out that performance had to be improved across the board and so decided to not include DX10 at launch. Did I "read that right"?
You then make an empty concession (so you can fall back on it and claim to not be biased), by chalking it up to "less than ideal communication". Ignoring for the moment that it's you who said it, that is gross understatement at best.
It's far more than a lack of communication when they claim to realize - a mere two weeks before launch, after a what... 5 year development cycle? - that something they had been developing and hyping for months prior to launch (no doubt to boost pre-orders) wasn't "up to par".
To anyone not wearing FC-colored blinders, it's clear what happened there, especially when one takes everything else they've pulled with the game into consideration.
It's just one of many examples of the classic FC tactic: Hype it up to boost sales, then spin it like a top when you can't deliver.
