What is your one piece of advice you would give to Bioware and/or Lucasarts, the creators of the upcoming knights of the old republic mmo? Mine would have to be: DO NOT, do not do not do not do not release the game until it is a finished product. Please do not follow the current trend of mmos to be released too buggy and unfinished.
Dont promise anything u cant achieve, e.g. "this will be the best game ever " or "not instanced at all" (but having instance). Lies and overhyping can ruin a game even before the game is out. People are expecting a lot but dont follow the trend to hype yourself. The fanbois out there are enough already. Well, im excited. ^^

2) They wanted more money and knew making it more casual-friendly could help
3) They took drugs

Bioware has yet to fail in my eyes when it comes to making a great rpg with story, and since they announced this mmo will be story driven ive got no real advice for them..
Except, stick to the system, everyone is a jedi from the start, or capable of it, none of that hit max level shit to unlock the class and reroll and blah blah blah. Everyone is a jedi, unlocking the force somewhere down the road.
Besides that, i have no doubt i will be playing this game.

That's a good piece of advice if you think most people play games so they can be the same as everyone else.
Crafting must be exceptional so it can help create a social community also make crafting very important to the game not an afterthought
Jedi's like SWG must be a unlockable class, imo and MANY other people i know dont like the idea of 245745737 jedi's because it just destroys the lore.
No set paths, make it that you feel like your story is diffrent from everyother player out there. Pretty much like SWG pre cu
LOTs and LOTs of vehicles that can have a strategic part in battle (tanks, APC, etc)
No right off the bat picks of what side you want to fight on. For example ima sith commando that decides to abandon his dark brothers and choose the light. This will also allow for a more feeling of freedom for the player.
Good guild controls. Alliances, unlockable content for the guilds players to use.
PvP allowing of town captures. Maybe even alittle RvR
PVE make sure the AI isnt dumb "cough WAR cough"
NO ABSOLUTLY NO SCENARIO//Battle grounds this has destroyed PvP in MMOs.
PLZ do not favor the idiotic crowd//youth. Difficulty is your friend and the MMO industry is lacking it. Now im not saying only favor the incredible players but dont make it that ANYONE can have incredible gear only the people who deserve it should have it "cough WoW cough"
SPACE COMBAT!!! ALSO EXPLORATION!!!
For endgame raiding try to stay away from instanced raiding but careful with the respawn rate. It can really destroy raiding if the spawn rate is too high.
Also possibly the most important thing of all. Make sure you have only one or 2 "social grounds"possibly a cantina or something MANY MANY MMOs have not grasped the secret to a successful community development and thats its social grounds. For example WoW has (had) Iron forge, Star wars galaxies has its cantinas and EQ2 has its main cities. This is VERY VERY important.
And finally DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT hurry this games development you have a VERY VERY popular title on your hands do not fuck it up. The key atm to create a successful MMO it to acually FINISH the product. AND then start building on it. Not the old ship the game half finished type deal and let the subs pay for the missing content. Gamers are TIRED of this BS and as u can see from the last emmm 15 MMOs were not puting up with it....
Thanks alot Bioware and good luck!!!
P.S to the beta testers do your fucking job so when the game is shiped it aint half assed. Remember Beta isnt a demo!!!
I knew i was opening myself up, but that's fine. i agree with what you are saying, but this isn't SOE. I'd hope that the bioware doesn't follow the same path and would know better. Until I see otherwise, I'm willing to give Bioware the benefit of the doubt.
While most of the posts add certain points that are both constructive and useful (with certain qualifications) many are merely an attempt, in some manner, to browbeat the original concept of SWG into the development of SW:TOR. While I can see the certain appeal of this, as I for some time too enjoyed the fine foods to be feasted on from SOE's offerings, I would have to take the opinion that I am well pleased with the direction that TOR has taken - with the exception of the pre-alpha graphics, mainly the sheer burly nature of the lightsaber hilts.
As Apollo would advocate: "everything in moderation" it is a sentiment that should remain true for the Bioware developers. Play with ideas that have worked well in the past and those which appeal to both the masses and the niche. But the key to the evolution of any entity is innovation; and this is especially paramount in the game development industry.
It is of useless effort to mould a future product into something that has been done before. The past cannot be repeated; and nor should it be repeated. I laud Bioware for their initiative. Thus my advice would be: take a modicum of the advice on offer from the community, for a great deal of their ideas are truely astounding, but do not attempt to remake a game - which I do not think they are doing - that has had its run. I feel a fresh wind in the MMO market; I hope that by the time it arrives I may revel in its invigorating freshness and not its torpor.
What is your one piece of advice you would give to Bioware and/or Lucasarts, the creators of the upcoming knights of the old republic mmo? Don't listen to the effing SWG vets who think that they are owed something
This is offensive. Because I believe the OP's intent was to ask for ALL persons advise to Bioware not only a certain group, reguardless of if that group is the SWG Vets who are disgruntled or those who enjoy the game in it's current content.
My advise to Bioware would be to stay in contact with your fanbase, the CoH Dev team is a good basis for this. They post on the boards talking to us about issues we have and answer our questions about all things we want in game, letting us know either why they will not do something, or that they may try to do something we want. The ideal game for me would be a Star Wars based game with the type of devs that will keep in touch with those who play the game.
Yes, don't listen to those who experienced LA's epic failure of an MMO. They certainly have no ideas that could help prevent a repeat of the past. Those who don't learn from their mistakes are bound to repeat them. It also helps to have a reminder of past mistakes, lest you forget them. Seriously though, my best advice is don't listen to anything Haden Blackman says, just do the opposite. Secoondly, take your time!

Their mistakes, now bioware made swf what it was. You have demonstrated why the advice of don't listen to the vets is a valid one.
I don't think one game that I've ever played had good end game, so this is going to be the first game that I've played that I'm hoping that there will be good end game, screwed not only Warhammer, Tabula Rasa, but also Age of Conan
My advice, as a seemingly hated SWG vet, to the devs of SWTOR is:
Listen to your customers. Give them what they want. If you force something on them, they WILL go elsewhere. It's simple human nature and economics.
Speaking of economics, crafting and gathering of some form will be a MUST for a good player economy.
As I have seen in other posts, don't hype it if you can't deliver it.
Having said all of that, I have a pretty good bit of faith in Bio-ware, that they can dev an awesome game. And LucasArts needs to help by NOT helping! Fund Bio-ware, give them license to use your properties, police the lore, and stay out of the way!
I don't agree with the people saying listen to the customers. I understand that Sony may have made a mistake by changing their game into a different game. As far as developing a game from scratch I'd rather have the developer make the game they would enjoy to play. The problem with listening to the customer is there are to many different opinions on what makes a good game. This is what has me worried about this game already. They have said they want to make many different groups happy. For instance they want to make the solo, social, and pvp groups all happy. Many games have tried to do this, but something is always done poorly. In WoW PvP was done pretty poorly. In Warhammer PvE was done pretty poorly. On top of this you are forcing each group to do something they don't want to do for portions of the game. The social people will have to solo for large parts of the game. The solo people will have to group for small parts of the game. The pvpers will have to solo and group PvE for parts of the game. Everyone ends up unhappy. I wish a developer would just pick one group to please and stick with it. Bioware makes good PvE games so they should be concentrating most of their efforts on making a good PvE game IMO.

Do what you think is right for the game and just make it fun.
no levels -crap too late
sandbox world-damn i'm too late again
i guess they need a map with red spots on it so the 7-10 year old crowd they are shooting for can play it
and no i never played SWG just tired of the same old games under a new skin
i would love to be wrong but the Web site makes me think that's what we will get

To Bioware: Do not listen to whiny FANS, create your own vision.

I have to agree with the posters above me.
Advice to Bioware = Don't listen to the vets.
-Currently looking forward to FFXIV
-Currently playing EvE and Global Agenda
