I honestly don't recognize America anymore.  It sure isn't the land of opportunity anymore.  It seems like many people want their government hand out and don't care about acting responsibly anymore.

People have become sue crazy.

People blame everyone but themselves for their childrens problems.

People blame everyone else for their financial problems.

Oh well I guess America had a nice run.  We were such a great country where anyone from the lowest humblest beginings could make it big and now if Obama gets elected we will move closer and closer to become just another Socialistic country like the European Union.  (How Socialism can be a good idea, when Europe had to join together because they couldn't make it as seperate countries running socialist systems, I will never understand).

    I always find it funny to see Obama supporters with Jefferson quotes.

    Thomas Jefferson and Obama are pretty much polar opposites when it comes to the Federal Government.

    The best is yet to come. When America realizes, as Europe and the rest of the world have already learned, that socialism is a colossal failure, people will change.

    After that things will be better than they ever have been, because we'll all be going in the same, positive direction: freedom.

    Two problems:

    1. Ronald Reagan was not Ronald Reagan.  I feel sorry for people, like ordinary folks, who do research on Reagan only to realize he was not really "conservative."
    2. In a democracy, you cannot always have your way.   People have different opinions on different issues.
    • We have seen what Republicans are capable of when they control EVERYTHING.
    • Now let's give Democrats a chance to rebuild, repair, and reinvigorate America.

    Oh, it's not as bad as all that.

    Government handouts are not living, they are subsistance surviving. Nobody on government handouts can afford a BMW and live in a $450,000 house. C'mon, would you really prefer to live in a house in a handout neighborhood, or would you rather be Madonna's neighbor?

    People can sue for things, but in my experience that doesn't mean they will win. Most judges and juries are very level headed. They are comprised of people just like you. I have seen a commercial on television which shows a basketball player as an attorney, he suddenly turns and throws the basketball just over the head of a bandaged guy in a wheelchair, who leaps out of the wheel chair and makes the grab. Most rational jurors are aware of fakery, that's what this commercial plays to.

    People never blamed themselves for their childrens problems, not even back when I was a kid. I can't tell you how many kids were messed up because mommy or daddy was a drunk, daddy sexually molested them, mommy slept around, or with their teenage friends, etc. Back then it just wasn't talked about. The police still went to homes to break up family fights, etc.

    People never blame themselves for their troubles. When was the last time you saw someone walk into the bosses office and say, 'I fucked up and cost the company $10 million". It ain't happening. Heck, most people won't even admit to a minor error.

    If Obama will gets elected, nothing will really change.  It's like a pendulum, it swings back and forth, what goes around comes around. It's not like campaigning on "change" or "maverick" really means anything in the overall scope of things.

    In another 100 years, people are not even going to remember these President's names, what they stood for, or what they did. That's why we make them memorize them in school.

    Feel free to correct me if I am wrong, but didn't democrats have FULL control the first two years of Clinton's admin?

    in fact...  Clinton gave republicans full control of the house and senate for the first time in FORTY years, did he not?

    After Europe's disaster of socialism, they are moving away from it, in almost every country in the EU. We are the only nation still moving in the opposite direction -- toward a socialism that Europe is rejecting. Exerience has taught them much, and since the media in this country is so parochial, people have no idea this is happening.

    Obama promises more of the same as we have been getting for decades, but after that fails, I am confident we will start moving in the right direction.

    This is an interesting thread because I was just thinking today, maybe we should try Joe Biden's solution for Iraq on the United States.  Partition it into two separate countries.  But instead of waiting for there to be another civil war, just do it voluntarily and let Americans move to whichever half they want.

    One half would be liberal America where the citizens could elect liberals who would tax them into the ground.  It would be liberal heaven.  Bureaucracy so big, the people would have almost no freedom whatsoever.  They could work long hours and at the end of the day hand all of their money over to the government and do so with smiles on their faces because they would know that the government would take good care of them.

    The other half would be conservative America.  Low tax rates and small government.  I would be in favor of writing a ceiling into the tax code to prevent them from getting too high and if anyone who ran for office proposed raising taxes above that ceiling, they would automatically be expelled to liberal America where they would instantly become a hero.

    Now, of course, since splitting America in half would weaken the country as whole, this should be done on a contingency basis.  After say, a quarter of a century, the two countries should be examined to see which is doing better economically and if it is clearly demonstrated that one is doing better than the other, the country which is lagging should be willing to admit defeat and the two should be reunited under the winning country's terms.

    Maybe that would put an end to the argument once and for all.

    • Never has our civil rights and liberties been as threatened;
    • Never has this economy been so upside-down and wealth so concentrated;
    • Never have we fought so many worthless, costly wars;
    • Never has the executive been so powerful;
    • Never has the burden of financing this machine been put so much on the shoulders of working men and women;
    • Never has private property been "taken" through the "takings clause" as now;
    • Never has government been so unopen or not transparent

    • Never will I "give-up" in believing in the goodness of America, the strength of liberty, or the sanctity of our Constitution.  May the same spirit of '76 continue to guide and influence our great nation today.  May the vision of the Founders be fulfilled and triumph over tyranny, ignorance, bigotry, and poverty.  We, the People, need to treasure our Constitution and our liberty - and shout, with an enormous outcry, when our leaders undermine the vision of our Founders, our liberties as protected in the Constitution, or a free-market economy that rewards innovation, effort, and enterprise.

    Aren't you already doing this with abusing your Insurance. You already stated back you use your dads address to get a lower rate. You are exactly the type of people who have burdened the system for the past 20 years. Why not just move to the Gheto now and save some time.

    Firstoff, what makes you think Liberal America would work long hours all day?

    Secondly, since when has conservative America had small government. Oh, wait, I get it, you mean short people.

    By the way, this means the liberals will have the better rebounders, your NBA teams will suck. Actually, all your sports teams will suck. You get the snow belt, then you can have curling  and hockey.

    How about we liberals get the areas with the great beaches, so you guys can't drill, baby, drill?

    That way we also get women's beach volleyball......

    Ah, you raise a good point.  Because on the on hand since Liberal America would be largely a welfare state, most of its citzens would want to kick back and ride the gravy train and perhaps not want to work at all.  So from that perspective, I think you are right.  The work day in Liberal America would be pretty cushy.

    However, on the other hand, you are going to need a lot of money to fund that welfare state and you are going to have to get it from somewhere.  So some people in Liberal America are going to have buck the trend to ride in the wagon and actually get out and pull it.  That's a pretty tall order.  I'm not sure how this would be accomplished.

    The conservatives in this thread are just crying because Clinton laid a big smack down on your boy Bush, and your scared to death Obama's about to do the same.

    If you really think this Nation will EVER turn to socialism (like Europe), it just explains why you lack the intellect to lead a super power.

    Do you know how long it took Conservatives to regain power after the great depression? It's were you are right now.

    Don't worry, just learn to play the game and you will succeed.

    And as the motto of the Boy Scouts, "Be Prepared."

    And that is why...

    Conservatives' pessimism is conducive to their happiness in three ways. First, they are rarely surprised -- they are right more often than not about the course of events. Second, when they are wrong they are happy to be so. Third, because pessimistic conservatives put not their faith in princes -- government -- they accept that happiness is a function of fending for oneself. They believe that happiness is an activity -- it is inseparable from the pursuit of happiness.

    We could try serving the word of God.

    American King James Version                        For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.

    Weymouth New Testament

    For even when we were with you, we laid down this rule for you: "If a man does not choose to work, neither shall he eat."

    The Lord looked at Adam and said, "In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread". This is the Lord's intention for man and none can change it. "If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat".

    When you eat the labor of your hands, you shall be happy, and it shall be well with you. Psalms 128:2

    Blessed is every one who fears the Lord, who walks in His ways. When you eat the labor of your hands, you shall be happy, and it shall be well with you. (Psalms 128:1-2)

    Seems reasonable and simple enough, if you are able to work and choose not to why should you then eat of others labors?

    What about the government welfare system? A man is not fulfilling his Biblical role as a provider if he is lazy and feeding his family off of welfare.

    Actually, God never planned for the government to get involved in feeding people at all.

    1. In Leviticus 19:9, God told His people, "Thou shalt not wholly reap the  corners  of thy field, neither shalt thou gather the gleanings of thy harvest."

    Neither shalt thou gather every grape of thy vineyard

    , "thou shalt leave them for the poor and stranger: I am the LORD your God."

    God wanted His people to help out the poor with food, but not to put it on their tables for them. He wanted the farmers to leave a little of their harvest out there in the fields, so the poor could come along and pick it up for themselves. In that way, it discouraged laziness.

    The poor could have some food,

    but they had to go out and work for it

    Also, it was still an incentive for the poor to be ambitious and work and buy a field for themselves, because gleaning is harder than taking the bounty of the harvest. After all, would you rather pick apples off of an apple tree loaded with apples, or would you rather pick apples on a tree where there were a few apples left in the top of this tree, and a few left in the middle of that tree? Which would be faster and easier to pick? Obviously, the tree loaded with apples.

    God’s way allowed the poor to have food, but it also gave them a great incentive to get a job and provide for their families. And not be a burden on the rest of society.

    Things may come to those who wait, but only the things left by those who hustle.
