How should Jedi/Sith be handled in this game?

This game is going to be a veritable nightmare ... why?

It is catering to the hero-wanna-be's, they are all going to want to be Anakin. A padawan better than almost every jedi. They're going to want to block lasers with their palms and detect any PvP'er that's on the same planet.

Everybody else is going to be their whack-a-mole target or boot licker.

The alternative is anti-climactic. Who wants to be a jedi that ISN'T a bad ass mfr. And that's what is going to happen because they've got to balance the classes

Of course, they could make the only class playable either Sith or Jedi.

The jedi aren't THAT strong. Like in the movies. A jedi was killed by Jango fett with like 4 shots and in kotor 2 you can talk with a guy that fought against the jedi and could kill them just by thinking "pazzak"

What? they should just be in a role like any other class in an MMORPG. Shouldn't be any more powerful or weaker than any other class in the game.

Average Joe Jedi is not that much more powerful than a Clone Trooper... but we don't watch Average Joe in the movies, we watch the heroes... who are uber ALWAYS powerful, even if they're not Jedi.

    Tried: WoW
Played: EQ, EQII, AO, SWG, NGE-SWG, LoTRO, WAR, Vanguard, Eve, WWIIOL, Guild Wars, Darkfall, AoC.
    Playing: DAoC.
    Waiting For: SW:TOR.

I think they could make it as where any class(cept robots)could be a Jedi/Sith. All they would have to do is make a certain quest line(primary or secondary)to be train to use the Force and Lightsaber. Making it sumthing like magic on other games, dont have to be a certain class just to have 1 Force move like Force push or Force pull. Though this would be bad for robots since they cant use the Force but who wants to be a robot?:)

They will probably make the jedi/sith equal to everyone else and much like in WoW there will only be combat classes that can pick some cookie-cutter crafts if they like.

What *I* would like is the same thePREdiger already said. Jedi being somekind of rogue class kinda like in D&D games. High evade, reflex, block , low HP, high damage and some powers. Would fit the movies IMO.

For people who wish to one shot a Sith/Jedi, im sure there would be some way to pwn them by the usual means of say a knockdown, a snare, or simply just backstabbing them.

I would like to see a system where a S/J rely on the force to do everything in terms of combat, and at the cost of the force deminishing over time.  Main case in point, the S/J have extremely high defensive capabilities by way of blocks, parrys and dodge, even against mutiple foes, and in some cases, using a foe's own attacks against them.

I would like to see the same thing in-game, but eventually lose the ability to maintain such defense over extended periods of time. Each dodge, block or parry to put some strain on a S/J reliance on the force. The greater the damage one has to defend against (including abilties/skills that would use the force), the greater the strain on the force, which eventually will lead to the S/J unable to defend at all.

For a melee class that do not wear armor, they should go down when hit. It's just a matter of getting through their defense. And, depending on how long that would take, could probably depend on the skill of the S/J, the weapons involved (rate/strength of fire), number of foes, how long one can keep a S/J at range. This is probably the only way I could get to enjoy a lightsaber battle between a Sith and a Jedi.

I hope that you are joking.

It could be Soldier, Scout and Scoundrel.

The player can diversify these classes with skills and perks.

And seriously those who say Jedi shouldn't be in this game need to relax, it's Star Wars. That's like saying Wizards shouldn’t be in a Dungeon & Dragons game because you don’t like playing or seeing wizards.

    Who cares?

I just don't wanna see any quickbar moves, simply make it a plain passive attack, except spells ofc.

It's the morality system that's gonna be something remarkable about the game, not the average combat crap.

i think that Jedi should be very difficult to play and progress through the levels or skills, whatever progression base they use. With the power they wield I think it should be this way, unless they decide to take it a different way where they are going to balance all the playable classes, which I think is horrible. They should have the Jedi class difficult in the beginning to the end where the end result is a powerful class.

So it could be like a elite class with more difficult path? Maybe there could be some easy path professions and some difficult path professions? Kinda like the Star Wars version of the Navy Seals? Say everyone can start as Jedi, but the path to being powerful is long, so long that some may just take an easier path to power.

yeah, something like along those lines. i mean, there are the many phases of being a Jedi right, Padawan, Jedi knight, jedi master,i don’t know if they'll actually implement those in the game, but i would hope as you progress through the game trying to pursue the “Power of the Force” the journey is a long, hard and well worth your time. Not another game where the 13 year old spends 4 days, becomes a high end Jedi, and doesn’t really know how his class works but he’s UBER! “let’s go kill lowbies and build my ego.” which is now what you see in games such as the ever popular and simple WoW.

I just want this game to be great… just my two cents.

The problem with balancing jedi's is in the lore of the movie and universe we all love, jedi's were balancable, thats why 1 jedi went on missions and took our whole bases and crap they could do long range and close range abilitys and they were awesome, they barely had weaknesses. i hate that they are making yet another star wars game, if only they would just revert SWG i swear that game would own every other mmo on the market.

Actually, I think, that might be a possibility, especially if they take KOTOR as base. You end up with different "branches" of Jedis/Siths, as in guardians, councils and sentinels.

It would solve the "Jedi as alpha class" problem, but I believe a lot of players would actually like to play bounty hunters or smugglers etc. and they would be very dissapointed.

    From the PCGamer #182 article:

"While they're not willing to cough up a list of available classes just yet, Zeschuk and Muzyka [BioWare] say that if you see it in the films, you'll likely be able to play it in the game. Jedi, Sith, bounty hunters, smugglers, crime lords, soldiers, pilots and diplomats come to mind. None of these are officially confirmed, however."

    mmmm....crime lord

Ah! Yes, Smugglers ftw. Personally, I was never so keen on the Jedis. All this: "There is no passion, there is peace etc" malarkey sounds awfully boring....

Actually I think they should have this huge list of professions...then to be a Jedi you would need to "master" a ramdom sequence of them by killing assorted wildlife ...like Bols....in the wilderness...then you would "unlock" the Jedi profession which would be a lot more powerful then any of the others....

    I know, I'm a jackass lol...

I never understood that about SWG. They originally eluded to some super secret way to become a jed then it turns out its just  tons of pointless grinding that some how makes it "unlock" Jedi...what a joke. I see Bioware makng the journey and more important your own story the point of the MMO, not grind as fast as you can to end content where the "real game begins" like most do.

    I know, I'm a dreamer.

    LoL,

I'm sure Bioware has something good up its sleeve. I'm pretty interested to see.

Maybe this time I can be a smuggler who...actually has something to do with smuggling and not a wildlife Bol hunter with a pistol.

This is the best choice at the end.

Sure lore is nice to have, but screwing up the balance for it doesn't worth it.
