to the point consoles only last for about 3 years so most mmos on them are cut and die while PCs can last very very long depending if they dont make mistakes and makes the players turn kough kough UO
I used to think that computers sucked for games, that PS2 graphics were far superiour, lol how neive of me. But I have played FFXI on PC and PS2, and I like the game on PC alot more. The graphics are a little better and also I like using a keyboard. Even tho you can but a keyboard for PS2 I prefer using a PC. I never use my PS2 now unless I want to play GTA or something. But anyone who thinks that PS2 is better then PC has some serious mental issues to work out.

Think about it. You say MicroSoft is investing tons of $ in the console market. Which is your main point about how the console market will "own" the PC market. i think that consoles will takeover, just because u dont have to worry about the 'my console isnt as good as his console', you wont need to upgrade your console. And also there are sooooo many less technical difficulties with consoles. i wouldnt mind consoles taking it over
There was a time when consoles always looked better than PCs. Those days are gone. PC games have more depth, expandability, and the ability to be dynamically updatable in content and graphics. I dont see a console being developed that will "blow away" a nicely equipped PC.

even if the topic is over, I'd like to point out that IF (which I highly doubt) consoles do take over MMORPG and online gaming in general, the companies would raise the prices of the consoles to match or flood over the PC prices of today, since it'd allow the console to do things it couldn't in the past, Consoles are $200 for a reason you know, and computers are $800-$2000 bucks for a reason also.
Consoles have their place in the gaming market. Most game genres are better on consoles. Action oriented games, racing games, arcade style games, action RPG's, etc.
RTS, MMORPG's, and FPS games are the Genres that are best on PCs. And consoles even do FPS pretty well... Bascially, if you need a mouse then you need a PC. And I don't ever want a mouse on my console, so it will probably remain that way.
But in the genres that are better on consoles, consoles do it way better. Nothing on a PC compares to a good racing game on a console. RalliSport Challenge 2 on the XBox is just amazing, gameplay, graphics, etc, it is all there.
I use a PC, and I have an XBox. I love themboth. Most of my gaming gets done on the XBox though. Simplicity, HDTV, couch, stereo, etc... Makes for some great gaming, and split screen multiplayer is always nice!
Whu would i ever want to play a mmorpg on a console? Only thing consoles are good for is if yer to poor to have a decent rig or like games like "tennis all stars" or whatnot, sporting games can stay on the console for all i care btw.
Why would I drive around on a Yamaha DT50 with 1.5 HP when in my garage there is a Zuzuki GSX 1100R with 130?
And there is a reason consoles make adds on TV, it is becuase the target group can not be reached via more sofisticated marketing channels like this site. (By sophisticated I mean more impact on the chosen group, NOT that TV is any worse then the internet, like an add for a mmorpg on this site then there is a good chance 95% of whoever sees it is a potential buyer.)

I think it is much more practical to play an MMORPG on the PC. Almost ereybody already has a PC, and why spend extra cash on a PS2/Gamecube/XBOX when you already have what you need? (It's also much easier to get online with a PC.) Besides, they don't have RuneScape for game consoles.

Well, I think consoles are becoming more and more computer like anyway. They already have a hard drive and NIC. The next generation PS3 and XBox2 will probly be able to run WOW and EQ2. And if you have a HDTV, you'll have the same high rezolution as a PC.
Thats the point, the closer consoles become to PCs, the worse off they are. There is less distinction between the 2 and since pcs do everything, not just one thing, its natural.
Cant wait until Consoles start pumping up the flexibility thing....let you upgrade the graphics, put more memory, adda bigger HD...then all the price arguments dissapear. Only thing is, you have a much smaller choice in hardware for your console whereas I can fine tune my PC to outrun your anyday.
In the end, the prrof is out there. Bring forth any console and theres a PC to whip it. Costs more, but since you need one anyways, its not that big of a deal.
Oh yeah, forgot about replay. Anyone use mods? Custom maps, etc. Kinda difficult on consoles.

ok, here is my take on this. Its the TYPE of game that should be played on one and not the other. FPS, in my opinion, will always be better on consoles. RPG's willl always be better on PC, unless somewhere down the line you can talk into a mic. and the game will type what you say. FFXI is a prime example. I play it for PC, and it is far easier to type and play at the same time rather than having to drop the controller quick to type. Alas, these are things the next generation of consoles may take into consideration. So I think its open ended as are all things in technology.

Back when the Atari came out, Computers weren't used for gaming, they were barely in a home with the income less than $50k/year for 1980s which is equivalent to about $100k/year today. Yeah inflation sucks.
Computers got smaller, and cheaper, and the consumers started to buy them for home use and then the games started to come, already the consoles had a big foothold of the gaming industry and here comes this new Personal Computer idea where most skeptics thought it would fail.
Mid 1980s, 8-bit console systems came out, PC's still didn't have very much anything yet. What few games they did have where only being compared still to the Atari and Colecovision consoles. It seemed that the consoles would never be defeated.
1990s, PCs started to enhance at a expediential rate. With the new concepts and technology coming out for the PCs, it would soon meet and even bypass the current console systems capabilities. Games coming out for PC only already looked better or just as good as the preceding consoles.
Mid 1990s, Sony unveils the PlayStation, its first real attempt at a console system. Nintendo unleashes the N64 only to find out that cartridges are obsolete. Sega Saturn made little headway, Atari Jaguar was a complete failure. The PC, was still going strong.
Mid - Late 1990s, PCs capabilities far exceed the console systems limitations due to being constantly upgradeable. With Consoles, for an upgrade means you have to actually buy a whole new system and until the PS2, all new games as well. The PC, you didn't.
2000, With the constant upgrades to the structure of PCs, and the limitation of consoles who are in fact trying to create their systems to be closer to a PC, PC will hold onto the throne of gaming.

consoles are good for lazy peoples direct play slap disk and play .... no forums no customs maps , no upgrades , no typing even if they can have one they still dont type , since i switched to pc , boy am nevewr ever going back to consoles .

I am talking about game sales... Games for console are outselling games for PC's by far...
That is the purpose of a console...
If you want to compare PC sales to console sales, you are talking apples vs. oranges, as PCs are bought for many more reason sthan just playing games. There is no real way to compare PCs bought for playing games against consoles.
So, if you want to count PC system SALES, then it is only fair that we include all "single purpose devices" in the console group. Cell Phones, toasters, microwaves, etc...
I don't why everybody says consoles are better, the pc is better blah blah blah, why don't everybody have best of both worlds?? I have a pc and xbox, ps2 and gamecube....I enjoy all systems immensely b/c each system has its strong points...true pc gaming has got multiplayer down...although xbox live is shaping up nicely...but if i want a rich single player game usually i got to my console b/c generally thats where they are at....people shouldn't pick on they should have them all

Yeah Console games are more abundent, and have higher sales than PCs, that point is given. But most of those games coming out are Sports, Racing, Fighting types. Which, I forget who clairfied this on this forum but I agree with, Consoles do own that market. However, except for a couple of games, PCs own the RPG, FPS, and RTS.

I just like to defend the console, because these PCs fanatics try to give it a bad rap. They don't point out why the PC is better, they try to point out why the console is worse. And they are usually wrong...
It is like any long standing debate, PC vs. Mac, PK vs. Carebear, PC vs. Console, etc...
I was a PC fanatic at one point as well, but then my friend got an XBox, I played it, and I was sold. Noa I have both. And if a game plays on both PC and console, I would rather play on my console. A much more enjoyable experience.
