This game probably gets alot more than the 50k the haters are saying and alot lesss than the million that the fanbois are saying......300-350k may not be that far off.......The question is how many can it retain and why has there been so much secracy and no open beta for this game??....Generally when games have alot to hide there is a very good reason........
Why did Dark and Light have 300,000+ people on their forums with over 1,000 actively browsing at any given time?
Want to know WHY the Darkfall forums have 200,000 registered users? Because 90% of those people registered with in the last 2 months or so and only did so because they want a free beta to play. Which at this point they're never going to see.
You are so naive that it's just laughable.
Do you honestly believe that every person that registers on a message board is going to pay to play anythning?
Here's a wake up call for you - THEY WON"T.
This game IF it ever launches.. will be VERY VERY LUCKY to get and hold even 30,000 players for a year in todays MMO market.
Seriously, listen to this man
You know how many people played in open beta for Warhammer online? Tons.
You know how many play now 2 months after launch? Nowhere near as many as during open beta.

30K subs means gross revenue of 5.4 million dollars per year. Gross means of course before server costs, customer service, developers for debugging, and so forth.
Judging by the activity on this forum and the marketing they've done, I would say they could easily have 5 million people playing on one server after the first month. Give or take a million.
Considering their servers can hold no more than 10000 concurrent users I think you might be a bit off there skippy. I would go as far as saying that 1 million people will probably never even try the game let alone buy it, just my opinion of course. Think I'm clueless see EVE for what the best case scenario is for a true pvp game. As far as the thought line "its better than wow therefore will get more subs" I don't even play wow and I can tell you that you are way off base with that assumption. Yet another person about to be let down in a major way if I had to guess.
looks like i was right that it wasnt a good idea for a topic as it was just going to be the standard hater vs fan topic in which niether side can possibly be proven right.
One thing is for sure though...definitely has the potential to have more subs than AoC or WAR...and this from an "amateur" developer vs the "pros" who apparently do things the "proper way"

Yeah but EVE only had some boring spaceships. Nobody cares about that Star Trek stuff.
Darkfall has warriors, ships and smart goblins. I think Darkfall will be more interesting to a regular gamer and we all know millions of people have computers and play computer games so the potential customers ARE there. Aventurine just needs to keep marketing Darkfall like they have in the past, maybe even double or tripple the marketing budget 2 weeks before the launch or something?
If one server can only hold 10k users then they have to open a lot of servers. Lol, if they get million subs then they need to open 100 servers. That's too many. I'm sure they will come up with a way to get at least 100k people on one server. I mean DF is not as heavy for servers as for example Age of Conan is.

Just want to point out that this is not correct.
To make the math simple...lets say they have 90k subs.
Since each server can hold 10k players on it, that means it can probably have about 30k subscriptions who have characters on that server, because they will never all be on at the same time.
So they would probably need 3 servers for 90k total subs.
Obviously just ballparking numbers...the main point is that not everyone is on at the same time.

What are you talking about exactly?
Aventurine don't do ANY marketing for Darkfall, and never have done. They said they won't untill release. Every bit of Darkfall you've seen "marketed" so far, is done by the players. We talk about it, argue about it, rave about it. This is what's getting it so much publicity.

Sounds like DF will truly separate the men from the boys. In an FFA/full loot game, even if it gets a million subs, i doubt more than 250k will be able to take the heat for any legnth of time...
Thank you. Yes I know it's your oppinion, but like the rest of the 'Darkfall haters' or whatever on this forum - You're saying 'The game WILL suck, the game WILL lose all of its playerbase after first month'... How the hell would you know? You haven't played the game, and it hasn't launched yet. Sorry if I'm coming accross as an arse, just gets to me a bit.
I can understand it 'getting' to you. I understand you desperately want everything they say to be true. I wish it were so and hope, for you, it is.
The rest of us have seen tons of games go down in flames or release with serious lackluster like AoC and WAR. (both of which I also called )
For a game to present itself with such an utter lack of information as it has is a serious issue, one that I believe has never occured in the industry before.
I was easily able to call issues with other games and see there flameout before launch. It was easy to do with the simple facts and information provided.
One simply does not blindly trust in a developer who gives you virtually no information. A rational person would remain interested but HIGHLY skeptical.
But regardless of all that, this IS A NICHE GAME. It's open PVP. NICHE... which means a relatively small market segment under the BEST of circumstances.... and let's face it.. .the circumstances are pretty much in the toilet.
I must interrupt your trolling (yeah i know you're not trolling, but it REAAAAALLY sounds like it fyi, ease your tone up), I think aventurine will get a lot more money making a sandbox game than they would have making a wow copy. I mean the themepark "singleplayer with some online stuff" market is packed to its brim, the only way you can stand up to juggernauts like WAR and WoW with a small budget is too do something shocking (even if you had a big budget, its going to be tough to get any subs from WoW with "WoW1.5").
This game is open to all those who love crafting and pvp in mmos, and more importantly, nets in people who before didn't ever think they would be playing an mmo. I'm talking about the CS players, the RTS players (if this game has decent strategy), the halo kiddies. I'm one of the halo kiddies (though I'm older than the median age of a halo kiddie: 5) who was DREAMING of an mmo to come out like this, and thought it wouldn't come to fruition until i was 50, ATLEAST.

Yes its kinda funny for a company no one has ever heard of and has no PR... That the only reason I ever heard of Darkfall is the major movement of trolls posting about it.
Its almost like I'm watching CNN and they are talking about the economy..
Its going to fail
It will lose everything..
**
or something along those lines.
I've posted crap on games I was beta testing... where I would say "in my opinion this game will suck" or something like that. Because I didn't want to break an NDA and say why it would be bad.
I posted bad things about games I was or had played.
However, the amount of people posting crap about this game which isn't even a product you can buy atm... As if they have some substantial and unrecoverable amount of their life invested in it... is amazing.
Personally if somehow the second coming of Ultima Online happened .. I would play it.

Actually the economy in the US isn't doing that well at the moment.

lol i must agree, antarious if you were trying to make DF look good, that was a really bad example to bring up :P
I was just wondering about that 10,000 players per server thing, does that mean 10,000 players currently logged in or that about 10,000 people will create a character on that server?
