...and say that I am really looking foward to DF, and that I am now, after maintaining a neutrality on it for a long time to see how things play out, an official fan and outright supporter of not only what it represents for the genre, but the game and it's reality as well. Call me a 'fanboy' now if you want, I don't care. The insult means nothing to me. I also don't care about the percieved 'insults' that the hateboys keep banging on about, I don't feel lied to at all, and I don't care about how long it has taken to arrive. I also don't care if the Devs are 'nice guys' or not. This has nothing to do with finished product or a good game. I want to play DF, not have a beer with Tasos.... ...and to be honest, if I was trying to build something as challenging as a quality mmorpg on an Indie's staff base and budget WHILE having to put up with the hormonal whinging of mouthy teenagers just looking to push my buttons, I would be less then happy talking to the public as well. I would just want to get on with my work in silence and prove them all so wrong. I have read everything that you hateboys have to say, and to me it just gets weaker and weaker, while the pro DF guys are getting stronger and stronger as they are proven more and more right by the building body of evidence. The fact is that it just looks, from beta previews and SS, to be a solid and great game. Been doing some research recently, and I have to say that if a pre-order was offered now that I would take it. And no, I don't pre-order mmorpgs usually for obvious reasons, but I have a growing faith in this one. Say what you like about this, it's just the truth. For the first time, I am starting to really believe in DF, and have hope for the genre. I like a lot of what I am seeing out there, and am loving all the little details in the mix... like the backpack that opens up as a jumbled pile of loot that your have to click and drag to rummage through, while looking over your shoulder 'cause you know someone wants to do the same thing to you.... Great Also loving the graphics. Just the right mix of realism and cartoon for my personal tastes, while keeping the specs low enough for PvP. The environments look stunning to me, and even the character models look a LOT better the other recent games (LoTR and WAR for instance). I am no Dirty Harry, but I started playing MMOs seriously on a team PvP EQ server and I miss the extra zest that environment brings to a MMORPG... DF looks like it will have that. I can't wait for the politics and power brokering that will come out of it. All I can say is hurry up the 22nd of Jan, and hope to see you guys here (who are actually interested in the game rather then picking petty fights on forums) in game. I honestly think this is gonna be a LOT of fun oh, btw, just also want to say a big thank you to all you long term fans out there that have kept your hopes alive through the sleet of sewerage that has been thrown at you down the years. I have come in late, but without you guys as a fanbase this may have stalled way before now. This is your time of victory, as the Hateboys gig ever deeper for ever more desperate and transparent ways to provoke you all, so enjoy it
Iver never seen a more obvious attempt at garnering applause. Its like standing up in church and yelling "Im a (insert denomination here) Im one of you, love me!

Ill be sure to necro this one if Darkfall bombs, then you'll really feel sheepish.

The fact that you resorted straight away to a postitive post with a personal attack tells me exactly what you are.
Oh, btw, if DF is a success then I do hope, in return, that you will come here and start a new thread saying sorry for all your rudeness and the offense that you have caused?
Or will you just slink off and hope noone remembers you?

Dont fool yourself, my post history proves Ive supported the concept of this game, and have said many times in the past that Ill play it, and hope they can pull this whole thing off. My beef is with that segment of the fans that act all wierd, in fact just like you do, over a video game. Two, I think theyre a little nutso for the way theyve handled it, but Ill forgive if they deliver. And finally, Tasos himself, I just think the guys a jerk, and you can tell hes never held a position like the one hes currently in, fire him already, there are far more qualified people to speak for Aventurine. That is all, keep up the worship.
Actually, I hope Darkfall does well... I just dont expect it to =
If there is one thing that has been learned from all the MMO releases, it is that when an MMO developer announces a release date, and there is still a lack of coverage and information about the game, it is never a good sign.
As of recent I seen the same thing happen with WAR. WAR - everyone on here was swearing it would be the best game ever. Yet I made sure to let everyone know - if they go in to the game expecting that, they will be dissapointed.
The first sign of success of WAR was when open beta started a month before release, and all the hype about how when a game is confident of what they have to offer they up the NDA and start open beta a month in advance. Yet they did not tell you that this test only shows the state of the game in low levels, much the same as AoC did.
Now here we are 2 months later - and although they are patching at a very fast rate for an MMO, people are still unhappy. They have seen all the game has to offer - which is inevitable with a newly released game.
Back to Darkfall... the open beta isnt even dated yet and its approaching that same 1 month mark. Assuming it started today even... we would not have time for people to see the real game. That wont happen till after release - same as with every other MMO release. Inevitably, people will be dissapointed by the amount of content the game offers as well.
People complain that WAR is unfinished... in the state of MMO's at release, WAR was better then most. It actually was more finished and less buggy then pretty much all MMO's.
But another thing people dont realize, is that the first 6 months to a year of an MMO release is a survival game. Take the best MMO's out now - all those games were crap for the first 6 months to year. Yes, even games like WoW.
Now considering both aspects - the first 6 months (survival game) and what things look like after 6 months.... Given the amount of scenes, mechanics, content, etc, I think it would be foolish to believe that they have more to offer then the most recent release - WAR. In comparison, we had much, much more information about WAR then we do about Darkfall at this point. Also theres the over-confident Dev issue, that I have last seen only in AoC and Hellgate, which is also worrysome.
With the little bit they showed us, do you really think they are going to have enough content to keep you playing for 1 month? 2 month? 6 months?
I've seen some say "just because they havent showed us, doesnt mean they dont have anything to show" - well thats somewhat true, but you have to understand, this is a game industry. They are running a business. They want to get sales. Providing little information about your product does not gain sales UNLESS if the information they recieve would hurt the sales even more. At this point, if they had something that would entice players to increase their chance of purchase, now would be the time they let the cat out of the bag. That should worry all of the people who hope the game succeeds (including myself)
I would love to be proven wrong, but when common sense implies that things are not on the up and up, they typically arent.

I approve of this message. I very much feel the same way about it. There are a few other concerns like how theyve already been cutting certain content already, like pets, and hirelings, very reminiscent of recent games cutting content before release.............

Thats a pretty silly thing to say. If anyone should be feeling sheepish then it should be you for posting this.
The OP is simply expressing his thoughts about the game just like everyone else. Who is he supposed to be garnering applause from anyway? The Darkfall fans and other people who are looking forward to the game? If he said the complete opposite and instead stated a load of reasons why he feels the game will fail then would you have still posted your comment stating that he is garnering applause from the opposite "faction"?
Like the OP said, will you apologise if Darkfall succeeds or will you slink off and pretend you never said this. Hmmm I wonder.

While personally attacking someone in public isnt...

It's not supposed to be funny, it's a fact.
It doesn't matter if there is a lot of information or no information, it has no bearing on the end result.

Broken.
Coverage is meaningless. Hype is meaningless. Debate is meaningless. Signs are meaningless. Only product delivered matters. Do everything else right or wrong it doesn't matter. If the game sucks it will fail. If the game is great people will find it.

Has nothing to do with Darkfall sir, I was simply pointing out that the whole post seemed rather attention garnering. And thats just creepy to me.
As for my stance, you are mistaken, Ive never said either way the game is going to suck or going to rule. All Ive ever said is that Im skeptical that theyll pull it off, I dislike the way theyve handled the game, and I dont like Tasos. My whole guild is poisod to play it, but Im skeptical of their promises, to me its far too eerily similar to DnL.
I dont have my eggs in either basket, I wont be suprised it if bombs, and Ill be pleasantly suprised if its a good game. See how that works?
Again, you ASSUME a lot of things, just like he did, just like the fanboi camp does, its like flies to shit anytime someone questions anything about Darkfall. Thanks for yet again proving that creepy is still in fashion.
...and say that I am really looking foward to DF, and that I am now, after maintaining a neutrality on it for a long time to see how things play out, an official fan and outright supporter of not only what it represents for the genre, but the game and it's reality as well.
Its like standing up in church and yelling "Im a (insert denomination here) love me!
Im sure the psychology behind this whole thing would creep me out.

I am sorry someone being positive and hopeful for the future is 'wierd' to you...
While personally attacking someone in public isnt...
Thats sad
PS, I have said already that I don't care if Taso is a jerk or not, so no need to repeat yourself again and again about that
Im not attacking you, Im pointing out that you are acting a little creepy. Did I call you any names, or insult you beyond "I think its creepy?" Hell if you ask me thats rather calm compared to most things said about the fanbois.
I think you are far too excited, if you will remember the DnL fallout, and compare the two, its like deja vu.
Actually, I hope Darkfall does well... I just dont expect it to = If there is one thing that has been learned from all the MMO releases, it is that when an MMO developer announces a release date, and there is still a lack of coverage and information about the game, it is never a good sign. That should worry all of the people who hope the game succeeds (including myself) I would love to be proven wrong, but when common sense implies that things are not on the up and up, they typically arent.
I approve of this message. I very much feel the same way about it. There are a few other concerns like how theyve already been cutting certain content already, like pets, and hirelings, very reminiscent of recent games cutting content before release.............
I'd like to add one last thing.
I said this same thing on the WAR forum before release. If they are removing content from the game INSTEAD of delaying, that is bad news.
As a game development team, or game company, if you had the resources to be able to delay the game, to add the features that match the development vision of the game, you would.
Especially if you do not have a release date set in stone yet.
It became apparent that Mythic was low on resources when they removed the classes/cities BEFORE they had an a release date announced. Sure, they claimed the game was ready aside from that, but "ready" as a game developer and "ready" as a subscriber of a game are differnt things. For a developer, it means the game in a "good enough state to release", where as to a subscriber "ready" means all aspects of the game are "good"... not just "good enough".
I feel much of the same is happening again. I do not believe it is no coincidence that they have not had any other major announcements BEFORE announcing a release date. We didnt get any big updates on the game, or sneak peaks of the actual in-game mechanics, or anything significant in comparison to pretty much the entire development of Darkfall.
If they had the resources at this point to delay to add the features that meet their vision of the game, they would. The developers WANT their vision of the game to come to life. If they cant provide that, there are other reasons - in this case it is typically resources.
Sad to say for Darkfall, the release is going to be MORE important then other games. We all know Darkfall does not have a very large development team - this means that they will have a harder time updating content after release when compared to other MMO releases. AoC even has a much larger team, and 7 months after release they are still trying to get the things promised by a month after release in to the game.
So with a lower development speed AFTER release, Darkfalls initial release is all the more important. We can all hope that once players see the game in action it will blow up and be huge.... but given they are trying to act like they dont have (or need) a real marketing scheme... that just dont make sense. Any game developer is going to WANT their game to sell. They should be trying to prepare the game for sales right now.
They are acting like the game will be able to succeed only on the hype that it has recieved so far.... if past lessons have taught us anything, it is that if they are marketing on hype alone - we should wonder what it is that they are hiding. It typically means they have nothing to offer OTHER then hype.
Did I miss something? Did DF release while I wasn't looking for a couple of hours and we already know how amazing it is?
Oh wait....aieeeee, I am a Troll! *waves flag around* here here, hit me hit me, I am not ready to cheer for a complete and utter victory of Tasos and co. before the game actually releases, considering we have less than 7 weeks and the game is still under tight NDA.
It's nice you guys are celebrating the set release date. How come you#re also already talking as though the game launched fluid and without problems and with all features in the game, plus with the Free Trial that was promised?
You didnt even read half of ops post did you.
When you said this - , 'I am not ready to cheer for a complete and utter victory of Tasos and co.'
You labeled yourself an idiot for not reading OP properly.
Aye, touching on that again, theyre going to have to have a freakin spectacular launch. Why? Well, the aforementioned small dev team will have their hands full trying to keep up. I cant see them being able keep a steady flow of patches with such a small team.
Actually, I hope Darkfall does well... I just dont expect it to = If there is one thing that has been learned from all the MMO releases, it is that when an MMO developer announces a release date, and there is a lot of coverage and information about the game available, it is never a good sign.
Fixed.
Oh stop that garbage already, that little joke isnt funny, and it wasnt funny in the first place.
It's not supposed to be funny, it's a fact.
It doesn't matter if there is a lot of information or no information, it has no bearing on the end result.
This is not true.
This is a business where the developers are trying to get sales. That is why EVERY game developer releases more and more information about the game up until the release - to get more players ready to buy the game.
If there is a lack of information, and surplus of hype, that means that their marketing scheme is reliant solely on hype. It should be noted that nearly every time in the past this has happened, it has been bad for the game.
Now is the time to show what you have to get more sales in the eyes of the marketing team. If they are not showing anything, what does that say about the end result?

guess what df forusm astarted gaining 500-2k in24 hours since the annunce of the release date SO well over 216k now it hink that plenty to at least try the game and if the game is there like the devs say =enoug subs i bet df can survibve even with 1 server running.
as of right now looke liek ther going to need a tleast 2 at launch

You see, thats the point.
You DIDNT question anything about DF.
You went straight for the personal attack.
And then tried to make it look like we have the issues...
You see, I know you now Arcken and I see how it 'works' for you. Your one of those guys who is just negative, rude and nasty, while sitting on the fence so that he can just jump either way and say 'I told ya!' when the answer finally comes in. It's called hedging your bets, and your pretty good at it. Tbh though, all it really just shows a weakness of character, as does your need to be rude and insulting in every post.

Its funny that you can pretty much tell what side of the fence a person here is on based on what they think of Aventurines marketing strategy. The trolls point out that theyve not done nearly enough and thats the sign of something bad. The fans on the other hand have about 100 different reasons why its the right way to have done it, everything from advertising is bad for the game to, they wanted to use money otherwise spent on marketing to improve the game itself.

DF will bring revolution. 5-7 years from now, we will be inundated with free form sandbox mmo's with realism abound, promising real time combat and ffa full loot, yada, much like we have a glut of linear leveling treadmill carrot/stick mmo's today.
What i think will happen, because what Barnum says is true, there is a sucker born every minute, is that there will be 2 "classes" or "age ranges" of mmo gamers. The linear carrot stick, leveling treadmills will cater to the younger crowd, while us more sophisticated, jaded, long time mmo gamers, will crave something more, as we grow sick of the status quo.

From an OP who was neutral till just now, You are confusing worship with support. I beleive you are trying too hard to read into OP, you have NO idea what his motives or intent is, so why are you guessing.
Arcken I have seen posts by you completely contradicting what you are saying now, you've said almost exactly what I am saying to you right now about reading too far into other people, yet you make this same mistake, HOW?
I dont think OP is trying to get attention in any way, well, "Arent we all to an extent, thats what the "REPLY BUTTON" was invented for". But I think OP posted specificly to share his views, and he successfully did so, I dont see a single problem with that, yet you where pretty nasty, dont try to play naive. Take a deep breath, reread all the quoted quotes above my post, and if you can only defend your point further, than you are the fool.
I know you are smarter than that arcken, all of us want DF to do well, the only difference is in our levels of support, but only with that support has DF continued to generate enough positive hype to get people interested, without these views, DF would hardly be known.

It is true, look at all of the mmo's released this year. They were all hyped to high heaven and had an abundance of information made available and then delivered a product far below the expectations that had been created. Lack of information has no relevance to what the final product will be like.
You can say that lack of information has been bad for games previously but it is equally true that providing information has been bad for games previously. When I say bad I mean bad for the consumer.
Just because they aren't showing the game off in public very much does not necessarily mean that it is because they think doing so will damage future sales, which is the assumption that you are making.
Aventurine are releasing more and more info as release approaches, it's just not as much as some other companies have done.
In my opion if they thought that the game wouldn't sell on merit it would be more important for them to have large marketing campaign in order to drive future sales on hype alone.

The more exited you get about this game, the harder you will fall.
I still say, this game smells fishy as hell.
Iver never seen a more obvious attempt at garnering applause. Its like standing up in church and yelling "Im a (insert denomination here) Im one of you, love me!
Im sure the psychology behind this whole thing would creep me out.
Ill be sure to necro this one if Darkfall bombs, then you'll really feel sheepish.

hehe ok, see it as you will. It dosent matter to me
The fact that you resorted straight away to a postitive post with a personal attack tells me exactly what you are.

Fixed.

Oh stop that garbage already, that little joke isnt funny, and it wasnt funny in the first place.
Everyone here has one thing in common . We are all MMORPG hobbiests.
We all sink alot of time into this hobby and we all hope it will get better and better.
Why would we not say, "good job" , " good idea", "wish you all the best" , and support
the genre? We all obviously care alot about it.

Do not go into the light
