Liked it for about 2 weeks, then realized it was the stuff as BC with different looks. The instances are too short, the quests are identical. Too bad too, I thought there'd be something new. Just my op, if you enjoy it...great.

Sometimes I have to recheck the game in question to make sure that people are talking about the same game. So far none of the people commenting seem to have actually played this expansion.

Personally, I'm having a blast, I LOVE it.  I do notice some of the complaints that other people have, and yet...I'm still enjoying myself.  But then again....I have six level 70s and did not even TRY rushing to 80 on any of them, because they're all crafters as well.  So I'm just taking my time, enjoying the journey, soaking up the scenery, the FAR better music this go 'round, and just playing it as the GAME that it is, not taking it all so seriously for once.

I'm a raider in a large raid guild, so "serious" has always been the deal.  This time around, I just said the heck with that, and I'm having a LOT more fun.  I'm also not playing obsessively like I used to.  I've tried to curb my playing to 4 hours a day or so, instead of trying to play 8 hours every day, while still having a life.

All in all....I'm just enjoying it!

LOL Does someone have a problem with someone else not liking the same game as them? Aww...have a cookie.

I do apologize if my interests and opinions don't parallel yours, I do. However, we can't ALL be like you, as much as you'd like that, and like what you like.

Sorry to disappoint your fragile sensibilities, but if you can't accept an opinion that detracts from your own...live with it.

No problem at all with you or anyone else not liking this game, or any game for that matter.

Diversity and options is something that I encourage. I also encourage people testing new things so they may eventually find something that they trully like. For your information, I'm enjoying the new expansion (nothing like the mediocrity of TBC), but I'm looking forward to Aion and hoping for a good wastlands MMO (I'll settle for futuristic in general though).

It's just that sometimes you read a comment and then try to relate to your own personal experience and the two don't really match. Lets say we've been playing a RTS game and somebody comments on how bad the FPS is in that game. Some opinions are so detached that they do make you wonder whether people either don't play the game they comment on or they live in a parallel dimension where A is B.

So, by all means, I don't expect people to have a unified experience. But when you get two people looking at a river, one describing it as a stream and another as the ocean, you start to question your own eyes (or sanity).

In all that you said, I agree 100%. I just got a little defensive. I don't like ppl that just blanket something and ignore what others honest views on things. I did play, my DK is 76 and my shammy is 79.

Truthfully, I was bored with BC, so I just tried really hard to like WoTLK and I did at first. The problem is rooted in me, in that I expected something maybe different. Or maybe I'm just bored in general of not having any of my friends there anymore...in either case, I do not enjoy myself in WoW any longer.

I am glad there are those that do, I am simply tired of having to explain myself as to why I don't.

After Blizzard removed PvP ranking and start to develop WoW into one of the most commercial games, I'm happy for the first time:

    1. Quests are great. They are varied and there is no more grinding hidden behind them

    2. In oposit to 1. grinding is much more enjoyable.

    3. And at last the game its easy enought not to spend half year to achieve almost everything to satisfy yourself.

I'm happy that will compleate the game before it become borring as it was last two times I have stoped playing it. At least there are so much other games that also worth attention.

Actually, everything people have been saying is true so far.  I have an 80 rogue and a 74 prot pally.  Quests are the same old crap, instances are short and easy, raids are easy, etc.  Luckily for me, this stuff doesn't bother me so much.  Once you're 80, who cares about quests?  And I don't even like raiding.  But I must say that this expansion is just way more boring than I ever thought it would be.  However, I do think the new zones are great.  But great looking zones don't make a game good by any means.

For instance.  Who ever had the idea of making half the rep only obtainable in dailys needs to be shot.  Talk about some lazy ass developing.  "I got an idea.  Let's force our players to do this daily every day with every alt over and over for a month each character just to get the good shoulder enchant."  What a freaken moron.  Or I could harvest everforst chips with EACH character 6 hours a day.  Right.....

Also about dailys, I really miss a daily hub like the isle.  Sure it was a gank fest, but it was great because you couldnt use a flying mount and the pvp battles were awesome sometimes, like taking over the boats lol.

I don't like how there are 3 arena sets, especially the best one dropping off a simple boss lol.  Should be hateful only, not deadly.  I know a guy thats 3/5 deadly already...

Dalaran.  I liked it at first, but now I don't.  The lag is just annoying now and you can't fly in it :(  What's up with that?

Like I said, this expansion is booooring.  Raiding is cake.  No sense of accomplishment.  PvP is non-existant right now which is a reason, but I don't like their ideas for the next season for pvp.  I think that this is wow's final stand.  I can't see them getting any bigger from here on out, the game is just really freaken boring.  And I thought outland was bad.

Lol, it' shard to take anyone seriously that says quests in Wotlk are "the same old" ... grind your way to 80 I assume?

    image

  • APRAuroreAPRAurore Member Posts: 330

I agree 100% with you about Dalaran. It's the only place in WoW where I have some lag I don't like it as much as Shattrath though some of the merchants are cooler and sell fluff things that I've been hoping would be put in WoW for ages.

I do like the xpac overall, even though my main got pretty nerfed by the changes to her classes' talents trees. The zones are beautiful, especially in the ice areas, and I like some of the new quests like wearing a murloc disguise and driving tanks around. A lot of the old lore is continued in the xpac, and makes interesting storylines. New lore is cool.

Yes, the instances are shorter, but that is not necessarily a bad thing: I find that especially when PuGing it's very hard to keep the same group going in some of the classic dungeons like WC, ST, and BRD. Those were a bit too long though interesting through their differences in level and the differences in kinds of mobs in them. That is something that hasn't been continued in either TBC or WotLK, a real pity in my view.

The PvE is easier now, overall, but it seems on par with TBC's difficulty. Both xpacs are easier than classic.  Most players by now have pretty good equipment on their characters and tend to have so many bells and whistles by the time they hit 70 that it is hard for Blizz to come up with real challenges that will keep the average player from getting to annoyed when they solo. It is a form of catering to the lowest common denominator, but that is both WoW's strength and weakness: catering to all players and playstyles. It's not as hardcore as most of the older MMOs, but I guess their jusitification is that there are more players who are casuals than those who are not...

Back in EvE. Started with BatMUD. Main MMOs have been EvE and DAoC.

  • elockeelocke Member UncommonPosts: 4,335

Interesting, 2 posts on this thread I completely disagree with. One talked about how short the instances are and that they didn't like that. I for one am extremely happy they are shorter now, as I have only so much time to play, what with kids and other great games to play.

The other post said who quests after level 80? Well, hell I do. That's how I make most of my gold. I cant stand farming and dailies get old, but I still love to go and finish out the awesome quest lines in zones and what not. Hell, quests are why I play the game. Probaby the big reason I like LOTRO so much too. Not to say I don't like to pvp, but that's why I play WAR on other days for pvp action.

anyway, I'm enjoying the xpac, I just wish Blizzard would focus on making the game grow horizontally not vertically in between xpacs or even on xpacs. Give me more fluff, achievement are a step in the right direction, but I want more.

Personally I felt like it was the same old game.  I don't pay for my account and I didn't buy WoTLK myself either but I even though I can play for free I don't log on.

I just can't get into WoW anymore.  I wish Blizzard would of come up with at least some type of alternate advancement instead of this "10 more levels of quests" crap that we have been doing for YEARS.

    Currently playing:
LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)

    Looking Foward too:
Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)

Since you didn't buy WotLK. And didn't even experience its NEW content, Battlegrounds, phasing and very good designed quests.

You have absolutely NO idea what you're talking about.

So your opinion is meaningless, based on thin air.

Have fun on that flying mount and open world PvP in LOTRO

If you actually knew how to read you could see that I said I didn't "Pay for it" but I do have it.

It is the same old game.

And actually the PVP in LOTRO is more enjoyable then the PVP in WoW.  Somehow Blizzard has managed to suck the fun out of anything and turn everything into a "Gear Grind".

Happily doing mass PvP in what ???

The Wow's PvP gear and season only begins on Dec 17th and you are leaving for a game with NO mass PvP, NO rated PvP gear, NO arena, NO choice of BG's in each tier and NON existent mass PvP ....

....except on a weekend between 08.PM and 09 PM  and ONLY if you are lucky enough to find a group of 5 Order players foolish enough to defend a "knocking on door" Keep. Foolish because defending doesn't even give rewards.

Of course if you don't find those rare 5 Order players on a server, in a specific Tier in that time bracket, and by accident in a Keep, you'lre off to a whole new week of waiting to have "it" happen.

That 'it" you get 10 times each day in WotLK with controlled combats and tanks/artillery.

Wintergrasp is a joke, it's carebear tripe made for kids to get a fake taste of mass PVP, but it's small numbers, doesn't change the game map, involves no tactics or skill, and is mostly about fisher price toy cars shooting at each other while noobs run around with tenacity buff lol'ing at the other noobs they can one-shot

I play on KEP server in Warhammer, and there's huge wars every night all over tier 4 in a game where class balance is much better than WoW's and tanks with a shield have a role in pushing fronts, and there are group tactics more advanced than anything in WoW's faceroll kiddie PVP

    Check out my server forum

5 entire game zones taken over in the last week, huge battles all over the place (and lots of whining) and a fortress siege so big that it crashed the server

I truly  cant see how you guys can say that it is the * same * old game.

They are moving a step forward.

all the quests in wintergarde are NOTHING, like they were back in BC.

They are giving us the idea of now having siege wars in pvp?

    How fricken cool is that?

They have upped the amusement factor for most quests, making them either funny, or just funner.

I myself think that leveling from 70-80 and this expansion pack are truly the thing that WoW needed.

More fun, less kill 10 of these, and you get 5gold ...

Mostly EVERY quest is a chain, where at the end of the chain you usually get to kill a elite mob, for a nice piece of loot.

all in all, this xpansion was what was needed to show people that the game is still fun.

PS - All mammals have nipples.

    Get over it already.

I have mixed feelings about it. Overall it is a pretty good expansion. High points are the art direction of the enviroments, absolutely fantastic. Sound design and music outstanding. They real out did themselves in this area. The lanscapes are fantastic and the addition of dynamic shadows give the game even more dimension. The music is fantastic so much so I want to have a CD of it to play in my studio when I work ( I am an artist ).  The new armor design really cool at first but after a couple level you realize it is all starting to look the same. What happened to the fun variety. In the upper 70's everyone seems to look about the same. They all have this more dark look to their armor. I am very disappointed with this.

Now as far as game play. The quests are a lot more fun. You do a lot of different things to complete the quests. However it pretty much seems like the same old thing. Some would say ,what did you expect? Why would they change that? There is some truth to that but it does feel a bit flat and repetitive but in fantasic new enviroments. The new dungeons I have expereienced are good but at time feel a bit short. This is not necessarily a bad thing but it is noticeable. Death Knights seem fun at first but do seemed to be overpowered. I got mine to level 70 then deleted it and made a priest instead (never played a healer in 4 years of WOW enjoying it more then my DK). Many are loving the DKs but the novelty for me wore off fast for me.

Overall how do I feel since WoTLK. I feel pretty good. It is a really good expansion and I recommend it. WoTLK adds a lot more of what we loved about WOW. However, it is not a great expansion. After 4 years Blizzard might have offered us some truely new experiences and DKs are not that. Not to end on a critical note that may get people flaming but if Blizzard would just add player housing/guildhalls and collectibles for them, I would probably play only WOW. I know this will probably never happen and I am enjoying WoTLK but not sure I will stick around for another expansion, unless Blizzrd really offers us a new experience.

    1. No mass pvp? so at least 2 warbands of 24 plus smaller groups on each side isn't mass PVP?

    2. Rated PVP gear: Needing renown ranks doesn't count as rated gear?

    3. No arena? True, but WoW didn't have arena when it started either and the focus is large scale PVP anyway. Maybe they will implement that at some point.

    4.  No Choice of BGs in each tier? There are 3 scenarios in T1, 3 in T2, 6 in T3, and 5 for each main zone in T4 plus 2 for each subzone of T4. And maybe more that I haven't seen yet.

    5. Defending doesn't give rewards? Kills earn renown at least, plus loot from players and keeping them from pushing the front line of the war into your home territory restricting your play options.

    6. RVR doesn't only happen on weekends as you explicitly state, and I won't comment on how the open PVP goes in the one zone in WoW.

Have you played Warhammer or are you just bashing it to make yourself feel better about flying your helicopter around in your WoW sandbox?
