I'm sorry guys. In that latest vid the characters look like bumbling clowns. Art is infantile. Scenery lacks detail. Bore / LoL fest.
if thats seriously all your complaints, I mean go play AoC, I don't mean that in a mean way but you seem to put graphics in a high area, AoC has nothing BUT graphics, you'll LOVE that game!
Anyway, the graphics are medium/passable. Some parts are way above average (environments), and some parts (such as the animation) are REALLY bad.
And about beta, they've already been testing the game with PAYED TESTERS for about a year and they also utilize AI to test. They don't plan to find bugs in closed beta (it will be just for hardware testing and complaints normal people have (such as with the UI) that you can have a quick fix to) and open beta will be just for stress tests.
I don't know how long open beta will be, but from the above I deduced it was going to be 1 week, 2 weeks tops.
Responses to critisism of mmo's get so predictable. It's almost depressing: "We won't miss you." "If you don't like it go play (other game)." "Graphics whore!" "It's only in beta!" Anyone else care to add to the list? I'm sure I'm missing half a dozen more. You guys need new material bad.
Howabout I keep playing games that excell in EVERY area and then visit the forum every now and then to bash worthless trash that keeps hitting the scene? Yes. I think I'll keep doing that.

I mean he really would like AoC, it has amazing graphics, you have to give them that... and seriously these people won't be missed, this mmo is simply not what they are looking for, despite DF's ability (IF its a sucess) to be played any way you want (a dev said you could avoid pvp completely if you were smart about it due to the size of the world), there are simply some things that DF cannot and will not ever live up to, such as having amazing graphics, such as having the ability to snipe people with a sniper rifle, and such as having the ability to own a spaceship. It won't happen, these people need to go somewhere else instead of whine about it over here...

Without offering pre-orders of the game, how will Averntine guage the overall resources needed to support it properly once it does goes live? It would seem that waiting to react rather than being more proactive here is a recipe for trouble. As long as this community has been waiting, if (when) it does release and if there are long delays between patches or extensive server downtime, the backlash will be horrible for them. I hope for their sake they are taking this into consideration, but it almost sounds like they are counting on not having massive subscriptions right at the start.
Have there been any comments made officially about this? I've read through most of them but don't recall seeing any.

With how games like DnL and AoC many feel having pre-orders right now is cutting your nose off to spite your face. One of the things that has granted a bit of patience and credibility towards Aventurine and DarkFall is the fact that there aren't pre-orders and that there will be a potential free trial before you buy the game.
Awhile back Tasos said there will not be any pre-orders for DarkFall.

Live up to? Hey I think most of us would be surprised to see this game be released and playable in one month.
Only the hardcore fans actually believes it can do much more than that and it will be interesting what they say when, or if, this game is released and doesnt have a fraction of the content that is stated on their web page. It will be AoC all over again, minus the pretty gfx.

Credibility for not having pre-orders? Hm, that is a new one. I think not having pre-orders is another sign that something isnt quite right with this game. It gives the signal that they really dont have any confidence in, or of, the game will be released so they wont commit to any pre-orders.
And potential is a very good word for this game because most of the things regarding this game, including the game itself, seems to be something that potentially might or might not happen.

Please, you know aswell as i do that he is talking about pre-order scams, or pre-order promises in the likes of DnL and AoC (one was pure scam heh, the other had stuff on box that just wasnt/isnt in).
By not having pre-orders, its a proof that they are not gonna try to route of DnL, meaning hog as many orders as possible and then release something most would consider vaporware.
Wich means they think there game will sell even after its released when all the info on how shitty/awesome it is will be out - or as you say they are not planning to release, wich means no income anyway, and no loss for any players except perhaps mentall illness from this forum hehe. That is a sign of confidence in a way - unless its the vaporwarez-route, but you already knew this - not saying you where wrong in your theory.
So either they are confident in there game (doesnt mean its good! they might be just naive), or they are just laughing there asses off by giving people fake hope, while paying large sum to server hosts and whatnot (unless that stuff was fake and vaporware too ofc).

FagerCraft - Feeding the trolls on mmorpg.com since 2005.
Well I'm pretty skeptical about this game. It promisses a lot and is gonna try to be a Quake MMO for hard core PvP. Based on recent releases of games that have disappointed I'm seeing a common tactic in games. No open beta and no NDA dropping till the day the game is released or an Open beta that is very controlled and limited. So from the people in the know, when does the NDA drop and When is open beta? I did some searching on the net and couldn't find a lot of beta leaked info which makes me concerned that the game is running a pretty small closed beta. Another area for concern.
It will not be QUAKE MMO.
Many will use melee when you sheated a sword you go into third person you also then fight in third person plus its not that fast as some say.
And for hardcore yes it will be hardcore but there are plenty of things in Darkfall why its also playable for casuals or pve craft only.
Go read some dev talks read faq read some topics learn about the game you see its more then a gankpkfest only game.

A trial period before launch is promised for the persons who wanna try out.
No. No trial is promised. the HOPE to let you try it out before you buy. Good try though..
So it's gone from "How can they scam you when you get to try it first?" has become "They hope to let you try it out before you buy?"
Nice. Keep 'em comin'.
I've personally seen nothing that has said anything definite about the trials, any links would be appreciated. I only recall seeing something about how they hope to have one that quickly morphed in a whisper-down-the-lane fashion to OMGZ FREE TRIALS!

I would have to agree with Yamota. I don't see how not making pre-orders available is a reason for high confidence in the game. I would like to hear Averntime comment on how many player's they are set up to support at launch, this goes all the way down to the customer service reps that will deal with account / billing issues. If they are flying blind here, hoping for a small-ish or limited subscriptions at release, and 300000+ people download / buy the game the first week and they crater as a result - well, that will be an obvious disaster for them.
If folks believe that not offering pre-orders is a sign that Averntine is confident their infrastructure / servers etc can handle the load regardless, then that is really having some blind faith.

IT's been happening for a while. Fanboys take what the devs say and turn them into fact. The take would liek to have a trial to WILL have a trial. And Whenever the company promises don't materialize, they deflect.

There haven't been stated they there will not be any free trials either. Hope or not. There have been no mention of preorders. That means they are not out to scam you for your money, what other reason could it be that there is something "fishy" is goin on with DF and Aventurine ?

That's awesome.. so because they haven't said there is NO free trial, then there has to be one..
Freaking awesome.. I wonder if they'll send a hundred dollar bill with each order... I mean.. they haven't said they wouldn't.....

If they have no trial, it's the same as having pre-orders. Making you pay to find out the game is shit.
You really think even half of the "fanbois", much less anyone else, is going to put even $1 into Aventurines pocket without seeing the game first? Sorry, ain't gonna happen.
The bright side is, if it is some kind of scam or just a really shit game, only a handful of people will lose anything if forced to buy before try.

I have to laugh at your "no trial is the same as pre order". I never realized that every game on the market is pre-order then. CRAZY!!
Hey, I've got plenty of money to waist. Doesn't bother me to lose a few bucks if it ends up sucking.
"What would a traditional marketing campaign achieve? To help sell some more game boxes? This is not a single player game. When you sell an MMO you're in it for the long-haul. The best marketing for an MMO is having a great game that retains your players."
IMO it covers pre-orders and all the short-sighted attempts to grab money..
I wonder how you "critics" will now turn this words to the opposite of whats there to read ..
-----MY-TERMS-OF-USE-------------------------------------------------- $OE - eternal enemy of online gaming -We finally WON !!!! 2011 $OE accepted that they have been fired 2005 by the playerbase and closed down ridiculous NGE !!
"There was suppression of speech and all kinds of things between disturbing and fascistic." Raph Koster (parted $OE)
i wonder if the developers of all the other games used that logic....
Our game isn't very good and we don't intend to keep the players money for the long haul, so lets set up a traditional marketing campaign and advertise.
I doubt the companies sit there and think their game won't retain players.
These is what Tasos said here to MMORPG.com "What would a traditional marketing campaign achieve? To help sell some more game boxes? This is not a single player game. When you sell an MMO you're in it for the long-haul. The best marketing for an MMO is having a great game that retains your players."

Couldn't resist this one, sorry. XD
A traditional marketing campaign would -ALERT- more people to the presence of Darkfall. As it is, there are gazillions (obviously an exaggeration) of players/gamers who have not even heard of this game due to its "superior marketing strategy".
Yes, word-of-mouth helps a little, but you will never reach nearly as many people, potential customers that way. And it still doesn't make any sense why they would pass up free advertising/coverage that could expose MORE people to this game.
I have quite a lot of friends who like MMO's. A good many of them are very much into PvP. One of my friends is a long-term, "hardcore" PvPer, who of course knows others like him. None of them...and I repeat, NONE of them have even -HEARD- about Darkfall. How is -THAT- good for the game?
And if you even consider throwing some elitist BS out there like "well if they don't know it they don't deserve to play it" or "better to have fewer people anyway, makes for better community", please refrain from that. Regardless of what Tasos might tell you, they are still a business and they still want to get -more- subscribers, not -less-, if only to pay for the bills to keep the game running.
We'll see how great this marketing strategy works. I'm not saying it won't work, but you must be blind not to see the obvious flaws in Tasos argumentation. A marketing campaign is not used purely to generate box sales. It's there to put the game out in the public and let more people be aware of it in the first place. After all, if no one knows about your game, it could be the second coming and it would still fail horribly.
Bottom line for me, anything what Aventurine do is wrong in the eyes of the "critics" ..

Didn't took long LOL So according to the "critics" taking pre-orders = scam no pre-orders = scam ______________________________ pre orders = no pre orders
Err....what?
You really confuse me sometimes. I commented on Aventurine's marketing strategy. Nowhere did I use the word "scam" in my entire post.
But whatever. I'm back out of these silly discussions.
I'm as confused as you are....i'm the only other one to reply to him and i didn't mention scams either. I just said i don't think our AoC developers or Vanguard developers sat there and said "our game isn't very good, lets advertise more"
These is what Tasos said here to MMORPG.com "What would a traditional marketing campaign achieve? To help sell some more game boxes? This is not a single player game. Will get addressed after launch.

In case you don't know Aventurine hasn't listed any employee as "marketing" employee ..those will get a chance to get employed after a hopefully successfully launch.

Yes i would prefer at launch to have a dedicated and DF worthy playerbase. The gank material can join later.

I've personally seen nothing that has said anything definite about the trials, any links would be appreciated. I only recall seeing something about how they hope to have one that quickly morphed in a whisper-down-the-lane fashion to OMGZ FREE TRIALS!
A trial period before launch is promised for the persons who wanna try out.
No. No trial is promised. the HOPE to let you try it out before you buy. Good try though..

IT's been happening for a while. Fanboys take what the devs say and turn them into fact. The take would liek to have a trial to WILL have a trial. And Whenever the company promises don't materialize, they deflect.

We sure do! Its the only way to keep you guys coming back. Without you, we'd be bored out of our minds waiting for this game to release.

There haven't been stated they there will not be any free trials either. Hope or not. There have been no mention of preorders. That means they are not out to scam you for your money, what other reason could it be that there is something "fishy" is goin on with DF and Aventurine ?

And when we got more women on the team, it was like No, no, no. We need puppies and horses in there.

These is what Tasos said here to MMORPG.com
"What would a traditional marketing campaign achieve? To help sell some more game boxes? This is not a single player game. When you sell an MMO you're in it for the long-haul. The best marketing for an MMO is having a great game that retains your players."
IMO it covers pre-orders and all the short-sighted attempts to grab money..
I wonder how you "critics" will now turn this words to the opposite of whats there to read ..

i wonder if the developers of all the other games used that logic....
Our game isn't very good and we don't intend to keep the players money for the long haul, so lets set up a traditional marketing campaign and advertise.
I doubt the companies sit there and think their game won't retain players.
Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?
Final Fantasy 7
Didn't took long LOL
So according to the "critics"
taking pre-orders = scam
no pre-orders = scam
______________________________
pre orders = no pre orders

Bottom line for me, anything what Aventurine do is wrong in the eyes of the "critics" ..

Err....what?
You really confuse me sometimes. I commented on Aventurine's marketing strategy. Nowhere did I use the word "scam" in my entire post.
But whatever. I'm back out of these silly discussions.

Final Fantasy 7
I'm as confused as you are....i'm the only other one to reply to him and i didn't mention scams either. I just said i don't think our AoC developers or Vanguard developers sat there and said "our game isn't very good, lets advertise more"
edit: typos

Will get addressed after launch.

In case you don't know Aventurine hasn't listed any employee as "marketing" employee ..those will get a chance to get employed after a hopefully successfully launch.

For that to know you have asked them. So they know now.

Yes i would prefer at launch to have a dedicated and DF worthy playerbase. The gank material can join later.

Like i mentioned no one is employed for marketing at Aventurine.
