Please explain how the amount of beta keys given away has any relation to the budget of the game?
Ok I'll explain.
In order to host tens of thousands of players in a open play test Beta you need MONEY.
It costs alot of money in Bwidth and also alot of money to purchase the proper server equipment to host that many people.
WISH had 80 blade servers setup and purchased for the game... after it got cancelled they were selling it on Ebay for $200,000 (much less then what it would really cost)..
The fact that Darkfall is giving out 1 Beta key less than a month to a launch could very well mean they don't have the ability to hold a true OPEN play period where anyone can login and play for free.

and your just sayign this with out any facts when tasos already said there be severly weks of public beta before release? even tho it might be a few weeks they still have to see whatt he server cap actully is before launch
all well you will see what i mean in a couple of weeks
ic na actully telly ou why its 1 key
because then theres a chance that you will get people that will break the nda and not give two shits about it. so with 1 key you limit that factor by alot
but its just a matter of firguring out there way of thinking
One beta key... I dont know if i should cry , laugh or nerdrage... oh wait, I'll giggle a bit since Im not as devoted to Darkfall as many others (neither fanboi nor troll).
To those of you who are VERY devoted to this game; go for a walk and take deep breaths, it really helps. Wouldnt want anyone to get a heartattack now, would we..?

lol i think it was pretty stupid of them too but you really have to understand them to not care heh
1 beta key generates as much interest for this game as 1000 as far as I can see. Maybe even more, due to the haters not being able to resist using the fact to fuel flamethrowers. What it does show though is it that DF is ready to show itself to journalists, and therefore us. This means it is at least in some kind of release state. This is a good good thing. I don't need to be in beta to enjoy this game, and especially not a few weeks before launch when all the testing has been done. This press weekend will obviously generate enough information to base my descision to buy on. So... 1 or 1,000,000 it dosent matter. I'm not sure why anyone thinks it does.
I personally don't really understand why people keep saying by letting 1 person into the beta they are hyping it just as much as if they let 1000 people in. Of course it isn't! It is only attracting so much attention because everybody who hears about it can't get to grips with its stupidity.

The problem with the 1 Beta key is that it compounds people's already growing fear that there are too few people playing the Beta. This close to release they really need to start thinking about stress tests. I'm not talking 20-30 people or a few dozen AI bots, I mean real stresses to address the issues that are going to occur when hundreds or thousands of people log in. The game might be 'feature complete' as Tasos put it, but what use is that if the server grinds to a halt on January the 22nd?
They don't need players to stress anything, the AI alone can accomodate for players being in the world, that and they've definitley already stressed the server ages ago...
Erm... I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything... I am saying that I don't know the details of whats going on, exactly the same as you don't, and that I am willing to read the reviews before I buy with an open mind. I am saying that the fact they are ready to show all to the world is a good good thing. I am saying that Aventurine know what they are doing far better then any of us, even with as many 'non-professional armchair developers' as we get here. 'Following mmos for a while' and 'knowing the basics of a dev cycle' are not what I would call a qualified expert opinion tbh, and forgive me if I have more faith in a company thats prepared to show their product to journalists then you. I also said that 1 competition beta prize is as effective for exposure as 10000. Thats all. I have no idea how people on this site can look at something written down and see something completely different.
I completely disagree with the high-lighted portion above.
With only using 1:
you have 1 player's opinion of the gameplay
you have 1 player's voice to write reviews
you have 1 player's computer hardware to consider
you have 1 player to post screen-shots, videos, etc.
you have 1 player's guild that will get "extra" info
you have 1 chance that they will login and use their Beta Key
With using 10,000:
you have 10,000 player's opinion of the gameplay
you have 10,000 player's voices to write reviews
you have 10,000 player's computer hardware to consider
you have 10,000 player's to post screen-shots, videos, etc.
you have 10,000 player's guilds that will get "extra" info
you have 10,000 chances they they will login and use their Beta Key's
Seriously... those 2 scenarios have the same exposure? Really?
I very strongly DISAGREE.
Well.. thats ok! Your allowed to!
You missed the point I was making though it seems, but tbh I havent got the energy anymore to talk to kids, whatever their age, with comprehension problems.
I think it's time for me to just step away from these pointless boards and just wait a little while for the game.
The haters and fanbois here are beyond convincing, and, in all honesty, thats their lost not mine.
fixed, because honestly, around fanbois, you cant have questions or reserved judgement without getting jumped on. Seriously, both sides are acting childish

Yer right, according to Tasos the game has been feature complete and ready to go since 2006.
As for the AI stress testing argument, thats already been driven into the ground, its highly suspect at best.

The only way that AI stress testing would work is if they set up PC's all over Europe with different specifcations and pings to simulate the diversity you get among players. Unless they have done this with 1000's of remote computers (which would be ridiculous) then I don't buy it I'm afraid.
Anyone seen the movie Charlie's Chocolate Factory? Where ten (10) special prizes were hidden inside chocolate wrappers?
This promotional for Darkfall, apart from not being organized by Aventurine themselves, is indeed building up hype; it is a single beta account, scheduled to be released on Christmas day.
What more do you need? About 593 people have posted so far in that thread, so I would dare predict that indeed 1 beta key, released this way, bears the hype of 1000 beta keys.

That is a good example of what a contest can do, but it doesn't work that way for DF. The difference here and that movie is a large company with a huuuuuuuuuge following offering people the chance of a lifetime. Adventurine is just a tiny company trying to earn a piece of the pie. This is the reality that Adventurine is in:
Think of a company that is local to your area and imagine them giving a free tour of their factory to a single person. Sounds exciting doesnt it
This is a win win for me, if Darkfall does deliver, sweet, a new game for me to get into. If it tanks, well as a consolation prize, I get to spend a good week bashing every thick skulled, excuse vomiting, blind faith fanboi who has ever launched one of the millions of personal attacks against anyone skeptical of this game. Either way, its gonna be freakin satisfying.
Really Arcken? That's funny, you talking about blind faith when you have shown so many examples of blind hatred. You were even complaining, no, crying about integers and negative numbers in a deleted thread.

January 22nd is going to be funny as hell. Honestly fanboys, please cut/copy the below statement, I think you'll find it useful.
" I think it is great that they are delaying the game until it is ready. Look at AOC and Warhammer and how badly they did because they launched early. I'll gladly wait until 2010 to play Darkfall the way it is supposed to be. Better being safe than sorry. It shows that the developers really care about making their game great".
Or for those who want to be a little more confrontational.
" Dude, it is delayed, not vaporware.. it were were vaporware, they wouldn't have announced the delay... stop trolling our forums and go the f#$* back to WOW".
I expect to see many variations on those two themes.

Typical fanboi, resorting to words like crying as if somehow magically youll force me to give a rats patoot what you think.
Ive got more fanbois than this game I swear, I cant count how many times you and your boys have pulled your hair and gnashed your teeth at things Ive said.
Its hard for me to want it to succeed as of late, mainly because I almost think it will be as satisfying to throw all this crap back in your faces if it fails as it will be to actually play it.

Apparently, having a month for public beta where they can stress servers isn't enough, according to the haters/doubters...interesting. 1 beta? Who gives. When they stress servers, which really only takes like 1 week, even a couple of days, then we'll see. There are morons in all games, released or not released. Congratz, so you got two quotes from blind fanboys.
The only problem with your statement is that the other MMO games that have only stress tested for a week have a lot of server/connection/lag issues.
You also have to remember that is AFTER those games have been in closed beta for months if not a year or more. For example: WAR was in closed beta for over a year, Open beta for a few weeks. Then when the game was released the In-game mail system broke because of all of the people trying to use it.
What makes Darkfall so special that something similar couldn't happen?

It's not blind hatred. It's called common sense.
It's called bullshit. When you're complaining about something you don't understand, common sense doesn't apply. And I've seen many skeptics doing that.
@Arcken. When you're flinging feces, you'll attract comments most of the time. Start constructive criticism, no one can tell you anything.

A week should be long enough to test all of that. Ask for people to use the mail system, use chat, use the things that stress servers, etc. Many people want DF to be successful and will gladly take a couple of minutes from beta time to go ahead and do that. Most of the arguments against no beta was that "oh, they wont stress the servers". I merely addressed that by saying it only takes a week or so, which it does. For mail, etc, we'll see.
And yes, I am aware my sig is outdated, but thats why I have it. I just roll that way.

If they only give this game a week of open beta it isn't to "test" anything, but merely to confirm their belief that their testing was complete and thorough for every situation. They can't be expecting any major issues, as they've not left any time to resolve the defects before release.
Of course, they could be using a 'fix-forward' stategy like most MMO's have done recently.
