Now that is out of the way,my point was not to pick on you but to merely point out what i am glad you pointed out "All games are pretty much the same".This was my point,the game is only on par with any F2P typical asian game.They all use bright colours they all build their maps and design there game the same way.
There is however in a few of my points that show the game is lacking like the shadows i mentioned, no shaders,yes the rest is just normal AERIA games type stuff.The game engine can do just about anything i did some research on it.It actually to me looks like they tried to copy the UE3 engine,probably did steal some tech there,so anything that shows short comings tells me the effort put into the game was a quick one and not one thats shows effort.
There are other aspects as well,if you have listened to any of the sound effects or watched the animation effects,this game does not vault above the better F2P games,actually sounds and looks real cheap on many fronts.
I heard AOC mentioned.well if AOC with a smaller budget and smaller staff can put out a decent[better] looking effort why not NCSOFT?This game IMO will be LINEAGE with flying,they are going to resell L2 to you people and pretend it is some new game,new engine yes,but same game.I have no idea what so ever as to why the ypurchsed the liscense for this engine,everything i have seen could have easily been done on the UE1 engine they used in Lineage.I can only guess they got a real good price/deal.I never really played farcry past the opening locked up screens i got on my older PC,so i can't even comment on how good this engine is in a real game situation.

Well it is obvious here,some one is looking past the graphics and just at the pretty colours lol.Asian games are famous for using BRIGHT colours,it might look all pretty and such but it does equate to better graphics.
I can spot literally hundreds of areas in this pic that point out a texture pasted onto meshes instead of any definition or seperation.Hard to tell but that ribbon on the dress,is it actually a seperate brush?or is it just part of the whole texture pasted onto the dress?
Look at the BLUE[ridiculous colour for leaves lmao]rigth above the players head?The mesh was so badly done you can easily see the fake looking branches and leaves.
Look at the christmas decorations up on the static buildings..lmao that is ONE simple texture ,there is no actual reef or lights or ribbons.
Look at the ground stone work.I know maybe fetching it here because a screenshot makes it hard to tell,but it sure as heck does not show any hi res texture,there is no shader or graininess to make the stone work look real.
HAHA typical asian type weapons,is that a bow or staff,i can't even tell,anyhow it somehow slipped through the bench lmao.

2.The gripe about the tree has to be cast aside, simply put it is a standard method of rendering smaller branches and leaves accross all MMOs
3.The decoration is actually seperate geometry from the building, it is actually a plane that is hanging like a banner over the depression in the wall but remember this is also an MMO and that design is only up for a short period (holiday) again this is often industry standard. But to go further is plenty of holiday decoration that are more then planes.
4.The ground I will conceed is not the most indepth or complex of textures but aside from AOC I don't really see anything going above and beyond.
5.Clipping.... Honestly... clipping... you are going to bring up a point of weapons clipping in an MMO, while we are at it lets complain that it is actually held onto by a string and that it isn't actually touching her back. No MMO out there has the clipping thing taken care of. Sword, bows, shields bust through furniture and walks and other players during animations in literally every 3d mmo. You are reaching with this one, and it sounds like you might have issues with industry standards that allow efficiency ingeneral
6. Yes actually there are doors and windows and such there doors are actually under the little holiday banner reefs. As for why there are so few NPCs, though it is trivial for the as a first point you can see one in the background. Furthermore, this is actually a player screenshot, they player wanted to catch their character sitting in the holiday setting and show the city. Could it be that they wait till the NPCs were out of this shot they composed..... That is pretty mind blowing stuff.
7.The tree isn't casting a shadow on her because the light isn't coming from that way. If you look at the dark ground you complainned about you see that it is dark due to building shadows. Just at the corner of the planter for the tree you can see where the building shadows end
Seems to me have a chip on your shoulder about this game for some reason. But I believe in civil discussion would you mind providing me a single screenshot that all at once demonstrates that it does not have the standard tree geometry, no weapon clipping, ext. One shot from one game just if you can't find one shot that has it all in there then feel free to use multiple but all from the same game please. At this point it seems like all you are doing is trolling and trying to pretend like you have a profound knowledge of modling, texture painting, etc. and unfortunately it is not working to your favor.

I think people need to look at the larger picture.
Part of creating a graphical look for a game is also knowing what all that is supposed to do.
So take AOC. Good looking game but when it comes to sieges or areas where there are a lot of players it has a bit of slowdown. Are the AoC sieges supposed to accomodate hundreds of players at one time? I don't think so.
But in a game like Lineage 2 which does have a great art design, you can get hundreds of players in one playce. Aion is supposed to be similiar in spirit. Hundreds of players. So you have to create avatars and weapons that seem to look one way but are actually something else just so you can get all the players in one place.
Can NC Soft make a game with bleeding edge to tomorrow's graphics? Of course they can. Anyone saying they can't is just spouting nonsense. But why would they? Especially if there are supposed to be huge battles within the game.
Seems to me they made the right choices.

In my opinion they have made a game that rivals AoC for the simple fact that unlike Funcom they have taken into consideration what an average computer can handle with still having decent graphics. AoC's performance won't be amazing for another few years. Look at Eq2, the game was a disaster when it launched in part because of it's heavy graphics engine. Now it's fine or almost there. lol
They are not reselling L2, though I will agree that many L2 players if not the grand majority will jump ship to Aion because it's art direction is very similar, or even pretty much the same. However Aion's engine and what has been implemented is years ahead and much better. You could say they are selling us Lineage 2.05: The noob edition.

I don't get what all the bitching is about. The game's graphics are amazing in comparison with other MMOs and may very well set the standard for future MMOs. The variations in appearance and attention to detail move this game ahead of all competition at this point.

Why do people call that "bad graphics"? If these graphics are too bad for you, might want to go play something like Anarchy Online (no hate, it's a good mmo) or something. I think that people these days focus to much on graphics that if the graphics are good, your most likely to play it even if the game was bad.

Well I downloaded the chinise client and a emulator so you can make a toon. So I can play or try OB on the 15th or somewhere in there. Man can you change anything you want. Kinda makes no difference if we like it or not its a hit over there. This is a PVPVE game. And some of you are bashing the graphics, the screen shots HAHA. Ok what MMO is better? Dont even try AoC that has more flaws then Aion and its been launched amost a year. But that goes to show you nice graphics DONT make people play.
To have PVP you have to cut things out, make it fast. And if you like, love anything that looks like, seems like Anime then this game looks very nice. So if you dont like it dont play it

Sure you will be blind but not all people do. To me environment play some role in the way i can fall in love with a game and it will stay for all the time I'll be playing the game. Although i have to recognize that game play in the whole extension is more important to me.
Diablo II its one of my preferred games, may be you will think this stupid, but i keep a sorc and an ama goddess mode in solo play just to visit all the places i still love in that game. The Chaos Sanctuary is still one the scenarios i love more in all the games i have played. As you can see the environment is part of what make me enjoy a game and graphics is an important part of them.
I have played Lineage II more than 3 years and never became blind to the awesome environment if you want another example. Sure i didn't take a look at the environment in a castle siege or in the middle of a clans battle, but fortunately to me not all the time is fighting. Another one? Sure i miss people i got to meet in all the virtual worlds i have visited more but I miss too to visit the forests on Osteth, the beaches on Omishan, The frozen mountains in Linvak, i miss to side one Tumerok in the fight (Asheron's Call 2). I can continue ....

I'm sure i 'm going to feel good in Aion environment. Sure it alone it's not enough to keep me playing it but is a pro to start with.

BTW: Have you seen the Character Creation videos on Youtube, Puuk? You really can make your guy as manly as you want and your women as old as dirt^^ Very intense creator they have included almost making it a lock you will never see two people who look alike.

I don't get what all the bitching is about. The game's graphics are amazing in comparison with other MMOs and may very well set the standard for future MMOs. The variations in appearance and attention to detail move this game ahead of all competition at this point.
And you don't have to get stuck with Barbies, you can make short and dumpy just as easily... lol Thought I'd put that in there.

It's almost 2010, and I am just not wiling to tolerate clunky graphics while being told that "gameplay is more important than graphics". That excuse won't wash with me any more. I expect my games to have both good graphics and good gameplay.

Why do people call that "bad graphics"? If these graphics are too bad for you, might want to go play something like Anarchy Online (no hate, it's a good mmo) or something. I think that people these days focus to much on graphics that if the graphics are good, your most likely to play it even if the game was bad.

Well I downloaded the chinise client and a emulator so you can make a toon. So I can play or try OB on the 15th or somewhere in there. Man can you change anything you want. Kinda makes no difference if we like it or not its a hit over there. This is a PVPVE game. And some of you are bashing the graphics, the screen shots HAHA. Ok what MMO is better? Dont even try AoC that has more flaws then Aion and its been launched amost a year. But that goes to show you nice graphics DONT make people play.
To have PVP you have to cut things out, make it fast. And if you like, love anything that looks like, seems like Anime then this game looks very nice. So if you dont like it dont play it

LOL look what I started and now I really do not even care for the graphics. I use to be a huge fan of graphics like Crysis and any game I played needed to be 1920 X 1080 or higher with anti alias of 16 to 32X now I really do not care for graphics. You know I played Diablo just for fun since its been years and I had the best time of my life playin that game for the short period. It really is about game play if you do play an mmorpg that you truly love for a long time you become blind to the bad or great graphics.

Sure you will be blind but not all people do. To me environment play some role in the way i can fall in love with a game and it will stay for all the time I'll be playing the game. Although i have to recognize that game play in the whole extension is more important to me.
Diablo II its one of my preferred games, may be you will think this stupid, but i keep a sorc and an ama goddess mode in solo play just to visit all the places i still love in that game. The Chaos Sanctuary is still one the scenarios i love more in all the games i have played. As you can see the environment is part of what make me enjoy a game and graphics is an important part of them.
I have played Lineage II more than 3 years and never became blind to the awesome environment if you want another example. Sure i didn't take a look at the environment in a castle siege or in the middle of a clans battle, but fortunately to me not all the time is fighting. Another one? Sure i miss people i got to meet in all the virtual worlds i have visited more but I miss too to visit the forests on Osteth, the beaches on Omishan, The frozen mountains in Linvak, i miss to side one Tumerok in the fight (Asheron's Call 2). I can continue ....

I'm sure i 'm going to feel good in Aion environment. Sure it alone it's not enough to keep me playing it but is a pro to start with.
If it was only game play, probably i'm not going to run a 24" monitor, 2 x 8800GTX SLI at 1920x1200.
