How the Hell did LOTRO Win best game?

Theres limited grouping, Most of the time theres no reason to group, all gear is craftable. It maybe have a good story but thats about it. It falls into the norm, how the hell did it win best game?

IMO, unless you are a EVE-head, LOTRO is the best P2P MMO on the market right now.
LotRO really is a great game; I liked it but it just wasn't quite as much fun as WoW.
If I had more time to play, (or wasn't playing WoW) then I'd definately go for LotRO.

Because more people have a higher opinion of LOTRO then you did. Get over yourself and realise that everyone is different; including their opinions.
We aren't going to be allowing RMT in any way, shape or form on the non-exchange enabled EQ II servers. Period. End of statement.

Because people don't care about the things you cited (limited grouping, gear is craftable ...)
A good game means that it is enjoyable. The need to group is not essential to an enjoyable game.
because in a genre filled with crap games ONE game must be less crappy than the others. grats LoTRO you suck just a bit less than the other games out there.
I would have said EQ2 but with all the "OMG SOE = teh Devil!" nitwits on this forum i knew that would never have won.

I see this as one of the things pro-LotRO. Crafting might be not that involved, but LotRO is one of the handful of games where crafting is meaningful outside of just being another timesink

according to this poll and those that voted yeah ... however in my opinion EQ2 sucks less than LoTRO and the other MMOs out there right now.
It's like Grindhouse winning a award... go figure. It's not a bad game but by subscribers alone I'd give it to WoW or let me jump on the wagon.. DF!!! for the win.
The award was not for number of subscribers, and darkfall isn't out yet, thus can’t be best game of 2008.

Im not sure eitehr...i played LoTRO for a little over a month and left out of sheer boredom......My server was pretty much dead and everyone was heading off to play AoC and WAR (MoM had not been released yet).....Then all of a sudden MoM gets released and now people act like its the greatest game of all time??..... Its an OK game but its too much like WoW but with LoTRO lore......The game is too solo friendly and mind numbingly repetitive.......I'm sure in another month or two we will see alot of posts saying the same things that some of us that have played it are saying "was fun for a month", "gets boring if you play alts", etc etc.........If LoTRO is the best game out there right now then this genre is in alot of trouble.
the award wasnt for the most popular it was for the best overall game ... now unless you are saying subcribers = best. If you are saying that may i direct you to pick up a Mcdonalds burger because its the best food (most customers) and before you eat that, put on some Britney spears or N'sync two of the top selling albums so they must be some of the best music ever made.
and when your finished with all that throw on Titanic ... the top grossing movie of all time so it also must be the best movie of all time.
And if you actually do all that; you'll probably need to know that the most popular method of suicide is by GSW to the head.

I group all the time for group quest or to knock them out quickly because most xp comes from quest and not mobs therefor no real grouping peanlty.
Hold on Snow Leopard, imma let you finish, but Windows had one of the best operating systems of all time.

Err, the greatest game (MMORPG?) of all time, and I don't know wtf you're talking about? Is this a console shooter or something? In which case I don't care, either.
Edit: Okay, I figured it out. Mines of Moria.
Well, mostly because it's a purely awesome game that glides above the river of sewage that most of the new MMORPGs are. Not to mention it has a very loyal fan base, like myself, who make sure to get it the deserved publicity. Although I actually voted for Tabula Rasa, had to give it final respects.

Because it's an awesome game with a LOT of content now, a lot of areas to discover, plenty of quests, few bugs, because it works on " small " computers ,because turbine prefer work to marketing and because it is one of the BEST mmo in the market.
Played EQ2 VG AOC War etc Lotro is better than these games.
Because its based on a classic book series and it was written by J.R.R. Tolkien. One of the best fantasy writers, hes up their with C.S. Lewis. Talking about C.S. Lewis I hope theirs a The Chronicles of Narnia MMORPG someday. Other MMORPGs are nothing but hack clone stories of The Lord of the Rings and The Chronicles of Nanrnia. You just can't compete with good literature and yes I'm looking at you Warcraft, Warhammer, and Dugeons and Dragons. So yes in the end LOTRO wins solely because of its story and lore.
When we get back from where we are going, we will return to where we were. I know people there!
Its the best of the garbage the industry has around these days.
Its like going around various fastfood chains to find the best hamburger. LOTR is the best hamburger of the bunch, but its still just a hamburger.
I played LOTR in beta. It was okay but nothing too exciting. At launch I played it for 2 months. Snoozefest. Came back at the one yr mark, they added some book quests but it was still boring.
The classes are too boring and weird. The combat animations are terrible.
I give them credit for at least implementing some sandbox things like music instruments and songs. The zones are fairly large and not too much loading screens like recent MMO's suffer from.
LOTR is like a MMO light. Its light on raiding, light on pvp, light on group stuff, etc. Its okay but like all theme park MMO rides. It gets boring fast because there just isnt much to do besides quest, quest, quest, oh and quest.
ps. did i mention they have lots of quests ?
