  • That was realy embarassing for them, but I don't know if anyone honestly believed they were releasing the 22nd when we still hadn't heard ANYTHING for over a month :p

This game is as low as it can be in terms of general approval.  They have kind of spit on their closest fans and arrogantly brushed off sceptics.  However...it doesn't matter.

This game will be a success or failure based on its content.  Any desperate MMO seeker will submit to the allure (give they like sandbox) if the reviews are good.  Its the content of the game that matters.  If they released jan 22nd they would be really screwed because everyone would hate it and leave.  If the few who do try it love it people will gradually become interested, perhaps at a rate adventurine can handle.  So lets see if the month helps.  Will everyone love the game?  Or will we chew it up and spit it out just like AoC.  Maybe worse.  Thsoe who hate it will still hate it.  Those who loved it will still love it.  Those who are ambivalent, (as I would classify myself) probably feel discouraged from purchasing a release box.  All in all They have to prove themselves.  If they have the full package, if they can just execute what they claim to have (and to lie about it would be ridiculous because they would get owned out of exsistance) I can see this horridly humiliating being a blip on the radar that quickly slips peoples mind as miles of excellent review spill out (assuming the review isn't bad, it could just suck).

People will forget about a delayed release.  They won't forget about a crappy one though.

Tasos said everyone will get a chance to play the game before buying it, not just "thousands" in "trials" for a "staged release" with "priority" given to pre orderers.

Tasos said there would only be a public beta testing period of several weeks.

Tasos said there was no way they would miss a release date.

Tasos said he was not going to just set a date as a goal, and either postpone or be forced to release something unfinished.

Tasos said he was resolved to stick to release dates because he knows how people tend to plan around this as far as organization.

I'm betting that we won't hear from or know ANY of the people who are "lucky" enough to get into this free trial / stress test.

Honestly, I can't believe anyone would be stupid enough to take this game seriously anymore.  What happened to DF being ready to launch in early Dec?  What a joke!  You'd have to have shit for brains to believe anything Tasos says.

The only thing this does is gives the haters another month to cry vaporware and the fanbois another month of waiting. Maybe they won't defend the game against these loser haters as often as they have in the last year or so....but they'll be there when the game opens up.

Haters - why do you get off on games not making it? I don't get it. is your life really that empty that you can spend your time just hoping the game doesn't get off its feet???

The MMO crowd is pretty ridiculous.

Are you daft? The only reason why DF is getting more heat than AoC and WAR combined is because beloved Tasos is giving us so much preaching material. Not because we do this as some ritual. Polarization gave us a list of his big lies... can you give us just as much diverse material of lies as Tasos has for an MMO in development?

Uhm, yeah.....that.   I'm still hoping the best for this game....I really am, but....it's almost as if EVERY single decision they make, or delay that comes, just makes me shake my head a little bit more than the last time.  I'm still teetering on the edge of being either very negative about the game or joining the fanboi revolution.  I've tried to keep an open mind and not slam it without reserve, like some, but  o m g......Aventurine sure doesn't do much to ENCOURAGE people to side with the game and it's rabid fans.

I don't consider myself a fan OR a troll.  I guess what I am....is a fan WANNABE.  I'm a very anticipatory OBSERVER at this point.  I WANT to want to support the game.    But I need to see something to convince me that the game is worthy of that kind of devotion.  I'm amazed at some of the fans, because frankly....in this information age....it's hard for me to understand how one can be so devoted to something/someone that keeps, essentially, stabbing you in the back with MISinformation, NO information, or simply constantly confusing information.  /sigh

What will be will be. The 25th of Feb will come soon enough. I'm no loser, so I don't feel inclined to get upset about a game coming out later rather than sooner. I have a life and other things to play in my free time. The 25th of Feb will come quickly for me. It's no surprise there's another delay since this is real life and poop happens.

Wow, there are far too many blatantly stupid lies/rumors posted in this thread for me to quote any for responses.  Yes, Tasos was wrong about the release date and had to change his stance on pre-orders so they could estimate how many players to expect at launch, but keep in mind that the community size has exploded in the last few months, and now they have far more people interested than they did when they were planning the infastructure.  They also can't just go to Bestbuy to pick-up a dozen new servers, because each server will be hosted on an 80-PC server-cluster (we're talking powerful PC hardware on each machine too).  Some have made educated guesses that each server will cost about 100K.

Just because they changed their plan around a bit doesn't mean that when this game goes live they won't still continue to offer a free trial to everyone who is new, but this will probably need to be postponed briefly until they make sure they have sufficient servers to handle demand.

Now, as for all this alarm bells going off BS...  Jesus, do you guys ever let up?  I personally know about 7 people who have no affiliation with Aventurine who are in the closed beta right now.  I'm not going to disrespect my friends or Aventurine by leaking info, and I wish I could be candid, but it wouldn't matter if I did because I'd be accused of lying by the trolls anyway.  All I will say is that people have told me that they feel this game is incredibly promising.  Hypothetically speaking, some might even say that certain elements are the most fun they've ever had in any MMO, even counting back to UO days.

This won't be a game for everyone, that I'm confident of, but I am 100% certain that many are going to be very satisfied when they play it, knowing that a company has finally delivered exactly the product that they promised, with outstanding graphics and advanced AI.  I know that the mechanics will be a shock to many younger players, and some won't be able to adjust, but I guarantee that many of the PvP-loving trolls that have been crying "vaporware" for all these years will jump on this game and love it, probably lying and saying, "I always knew it would succeed".

For those who sincerely like free-for-all combat, death with consequences, full looting, incredibly challenging AI, a skill-based system, FPS elements, no instances, PvP anywhere, and friendly fire enabled, I strongly believe that you are going to be very happy with this game.  This game is guaranteed to have a large and faithful following, because it is the only one of it's type on the market.  There is literally no other competition for the hardcore PvP MMO players out there, except perhaps Eve Online, but both systems are quite different and will offer players different satisfaction.

Yes, some people are going to dislike this game simply because they dislike the core PvP-centered mechanics and didn't realize it until they tried it.  Many others are going to have a very positive experience however, and you can expect to read  many statements like, "this is the best [insert topic] I've ever seen in any game."  I'm not trying to tell you that all aspects of the game are going to be that groundbreaking, but many will agree that several are.

The only thing that makes me a little concerned is this:

"We’ll use this extra time to implement updates based on tester feedback and also make some enhancements we were saving for after release."

I've done software development (though not on this scale), but fixing bugs, balancing, etc. is one thing, but they're going to be implementing entirely new things, which to me implies you not only have to test those new things, but you have to seriously regression test what's already there.

Flame on? Nah, your words are wise!

For me, I've never been a big PvP fan, let alone FFA PvP.

However, so many other aspects of the game sound very promising, so I'll likely wait a week or two after release and gather as much intel as I can in order to decide whether to buy it.

Even if I was beta leaking extensively detailed info you'd call me a liar unless I let you log-in to my account, so it's a lose-lose situation arguing with your grand holiness of 5 stars.  However, the tester friends I have don't know how many other testers there are besides our friends, so I guess Aventurine sent you a special email with a headcount.

Is it only me, or is any1 else sick and tired of all this bs. Why cant they be honest enough to tell us that they are not ready enough to release anything. Beta? Ye right, no leaks, no nothing. Release Q1 (22 feb) ye right!

Feels like they got their nuts warm when MO breached the market with similar (but lot better imo) sandbox, full loot etc... Why rush it, if you believe your game is that good, it should be no problems competing with MO, should there?

Nah, DFO ha used their credibility for me, MO, here I come FTW!

DFO fanbois, take this as a wakeup call. You will be able to play a more complete version of MO than DFO when MO reaches the market Q3-Q4

Don't know much about implementing systems but was wondering why they didn't release on schedule with a smaller client base if the problem was their server capacity couldn't handle all the requests(guess they were inundated with 100's of thousands on the last day?). This could do a couple of things - 1) meet their commitment to release, 2) prove they have a workable product.

They could increase their capacity over time to meet the huge demand.

How dare you make complete sense on a Darkfall forum!

    LOL!

You know.... We heard SO much about their deals with GNI and AV (Audio Visual). Well... If they really had a deal with GNI, then why is there a server problem? Good question, huh? I'm sure a few fanbois will have an adequate answer.

Also, what exactly is Audio Visual doing? So far, I see nothing. They don't even have BOX ART completed. That you can do years in advance. Am I missing something here?

I didn't call you a liar, I just said if you really know that many people in such a limited beta (by all published accounts the number of testers was well under a thousand) than you have to be connected with Aventurine.  I still believe that.

And its only 4 stars these days.  I've been bad.

Wow, you really do know things are going down the tubes for Darkfall when even bedrock members of their diehard fanbase are finally losing their faith.

We've seen other companies squander the anticipation, the goodwill and the IP of their MMO's before, that's nothing new, but I've watched so many people fight so hard for so long to defend this game as, one by one, their foundations are chipped out from under them. Another sad day for MMO's I guess.

Like a bad breakup, we're going to see a lot of love turn to a lot of hate on these forums before too long. No one likes seeing their trust get pissed all over.
