I'm glad that MO is going to be another game similar to Dark Fall because I feel these are the types of games of been waiting for to come out.
Most MMORPG's I've played haven't kept my interest very long, but with so much to do in these ones, as well as the FPS fighting style, I think I'll play for much longer.
I really also ejoy the fact that if you destroy a legendary creature or tople a crumbling tower into the ocean it affects the world and doesnt return.
I agree too that it is a good thing that we have these four sandbox style games in production. What is sad to see is certain individuals from each of these games going and bashing on the other game. I mean, I don't personally like Tasos, but I'm not here wishing DF will fail. Sometimes I just want to grab some of these loud mouth punks, shake them and say
"Hey buddy, look around! Sandbox is surrounded. That's you! Quit the in-fighting and bickering and offer up some support. You don't have to like of play them all, but have the brains to realize that if any or all of them succeed it increases the chances that more will be made. Get A Clue!"
But some folks can't get over the ego of wanting there's to be the best to allow any objective reasoning to enter their mind. Humanity, the downfall of us all.
"Many nights, my friend... Many nights I've put a blade to your throat while you were sleeping. Glad I never killed you, Steve. You're alright..."
Ya I agree, bashing the other games just so they can be the ones who "knew how it would all come out" in the end is lame, and those who were "wrong" will make up all the excuses in the world so they seem like they knew what was happening all along.
Humanity just won't allow us to be wrong in our own minds
I just hope people would start developing more sandboxes like DF and MO. I wish an equal amount of luck to all of them, since there can't be enough of them to choose from. Doesn't matter which one is the best, what matters is that there are games to choose from for all the peoples likings and sandboxes are what's currently lacking. Only through creation and competition can these games truly evolve into the beasts we have set our eyes and wishes upon. Happy New Year!

agreed on all that ... and no more big companies w/ brand name MMO universe... ugh star wars / star trek / stargate... geez whatever happend to originality
From the little we know due to the FAQ, an 'in game' video and a screenshot, I can't help but feel this game is like a 'professional' version of Darkfall. I'm not knocking Darkfall per-se, that game is trying to do some VERY ambitious things and I hope all goes well for it, but I can't seem to shake the feeling that Mortal Online will have tremendously more polish and gloriously beautiful scenery. I will definitely keep an eye out for this game.
Agreed, completely. Adventurine has little to no care for PR, and it really rubs me the wrong way how they expect future customers to accept that. Star Vault is definately handling their entire operation in a much more professional manner, following industry standards even.
Vangaurd had completely awesome PR. That turned out completely awesome...
Who the **** cares how well they carry out their operations, if ANYTHING it should be a BAD sign if they are really good at PR before a game's launch. I want my game devs to be good at developing games dammit!
All I hope is that this company is much more open with info, in-game videos, podcasts, and what have you. No, it's not PR. It's PROOF that your concepts are in the game, working, and just as you advertised. At least until the Betas roll around and we start seeing player-made vids of course. And if they videos show otherwise, delay the game.

maybe this is a sign of the times, and perhaps game companies are going to be more secretive about their projects... however they justify it, there's very little posting our dissatisfaction about it will do to change that... I do hope that this doesn't become a trend w/ future mmo companies/devs.

Well, I won't promise player made vids but beta for MO is scheduled to start this month. Now, I don't know if it is an internal beta or if there are going to be folks invited from the outside, but it is scheduled to start January 2009 and they did meet their Alpha goal for December 2008.
I think part of the reason companies are slowing down on releasing videos and screenshots in particular is that some people tend to blow up and harp on the screenshots/videos not being picture perfect and just completely throw out the window that these media are from an Alpha or Beta stage where the devs just aren't working on the eye candy at that point. You don't put a custom paint job on a classic car before you fix the insides and get it up and running smoothly do you? Well, the majority of people don't.

hee hee very good point, i have a Pontiac 69 firebird classic myself so I get the obvious metaphore
At least the races are original. If I see another dwarf I'm going to vomit on my keyboard.
I'm pretty sure MO will have a dwarf race (albeit reimagined), so you might want to move your keyboard.
That is one other area that I do enjoy. At base level some of the races may be compared to those in other fantasy games. That said, SV looks to be putting a different "twist" on the pre-conceived identity of those races.
"Many nights, my friend... Many nights I've put a blade to your throat while you were sleeping. Glad I never killed you, Steve. You're alright..."
Good vs. Evil, Cowboys & Indians, Order vs. Destruction, Horde vs. Alliance and so on
Or
Will it be like AOC everyone is out to get everyone?
Yes and no.
I'll start with the no. There won't be pre-set encoded npc based sides like the Order/Destruction and Horde/Alliance ones you mention. I believe this is because those types of pre-generated factions take away from one of MO's key premises in that the players are what makes the world go round. From top to bottom.
Yes, there can be sides in that players can band together and form alliances and set their own goals for how they want to leave their mark on the world. One example of such goals can be seen in the following:
"Choose to believe in one of the Gods and watch its power grow. Fight heretics and burn their temples to rob their Gods of power. Or start a new cult: with enough believers your God might be powerful enough to enter the Pantheon."
Star Vault also mentions in more than a few places about building fortresses and ruling nations. Putting that in context with the above highlighted we can hope, and I stress hope, that we will see a mechanic to where guilds can ally with others and form such entities. If anything I'm am almost positive you will see guilds coming to agreements (even if there is no in-game mechanic to help formalize and flag it) and having relations, hostile or friendly, with other such alliances.
"Many nights, my friend... Many nights I've put a blade to your throat while you were sleeping. Glad I never killed you, Steve. You're alright..."
mortal has revealed 3 human races, one half human/half orc race, and one alvar race. so you're totally wrong. there are more races to come. and in my opinion, MO's races are infinitely more interesting than DF's already.

It seems different than Darkfall in a lot of ways but has some great ideas. I welcome any new game into the genre especially when it's a sandbox title. The Deva system has me intrigued.
To people skeptical about it's seemingly short development you have to look at the project timelines. They started designing this in 2002 and working heavily on it in 2005. Darkfall rewrote their engine in 2006, and aren't these guys at Mortal Online using some 3rd party tools whereas Aventurine developed their own from scratch?
I think the timelines workout pretty well and I believe they have a lot more work done than what the average person might imagine for when it came onto the scene. Only time will tell though. I hope they have a smooth beta phase.
Well this game certainly does seem like darkfall but from what i have briefly seen of it I would say it is indeed looking more proffessional and promissing. The way the skill system is described seems alot more thought out and seems to have more depth to it then Darkfalls. Also Mortal Online seems to have better looks which is probably no doubt due to the engine they are using which also seems a far wiser choice then what was chosen with darkfall.
I wouldnt be suprised if alot more start looking at Mortal online now that Darkfall has delayed again. However i doubt Mortal will be out this year I hope im wrong.

Not that many similarities.
DF will have a huge non instanced game world without any zones, MO will have a small and partly instanced world with zones. DF gear have less importance player skill high importance, MO gear have more importance player skill less importance. DF is a pure skill system, MO is a mix class and skill system. DF have WYSIWYG loot system MO will likely not have.
Some of the USP I find most interesting in DF and not seen MO.
Seems that MO developers more eager to earn money on a concept rather than a released game like DF. Selling t-shirt with a few screenshots and video precent more or less a 2d view... wtf?
You are so wrong about MO.
Mortal Online will have an open world like DF, There is no such thing as instanced zones in MO.
