Thing is, I'm not even saying DF will suck. Nor have I ever said that.
I actually hope the game does well becuase I know there are players out there who really want a game like that to play, and succeed. It's somewhat interesting to me, and I'll try it myself at some point.
I would never want to "deny" people a game they want to play. I hope the game does do well enough to keep going, and isn't dragged down by the certain group that are attracted to that type of MMO with the sole intention of ruining it for as many others as they can, driving players from the game in the process.
What I've always posted about is the behavior of certain members of the DF community whose behavior defies any kind of objectivity or honesty.
Honestly, I've got this fascination with human behavior - especially how people will just completely act against all reason when it doesn't suit their ends (you should see the field day I have with politicians).
Yet, somehow, I'm asked (by mcpoopy..) if I want the game to fail.

Ah, but you omitted the key word, "Open". Open beta implies open to everyone who desires to play, with no restrictions. You provided the defintintion of a beta in general, and in DF's case we can call it a limited beta. Hey, even AOC did a lmited beta, most firms do these days, however I think Tasos promised us an open beta, where everyone who wanted to try it before they gave him any money would get to play. Obviously he was mistaken on that point.
"Open beta" means any1 has a chance to get into it, but not everyone will. Usually there are too many applications for open beta to accomodate them all, so companies pick people to fill various ranges of hardware/software/OS. But there is a limit to the number of people accepted. Now stress test usually means that anyone and everyone can join in because they are forcefully trying to overload the server. Stress test, however, is usually in the last stages of beta and doesnt last long.
Unfortunately many companies lately hide "paid betas" (the ones that you can get into only by pre-ordering the game) under "open betas". Which is, IMO, very sneaky/wrong thing to do.
Who cares how long they take as long as it's a good game.

Starting on January 22nd there will be a Darkfall trial with the distribution of the release candidate client allowing thousands of players to sample the game for free, help us stress test our servers and test the final features of the game.
Ok so its not a open beta, its a Open Trial for all people up to the number that the trial server can handle.

Yeah, go apply for that open beta today and see what your chances are of getting in.....I'll tell you what your chances are: zero.......Unless you applied for the beta long ago you will not get in......Tasos made it sound like they are only going to look at those who have already applied and even hinted not even all those will get in.......His rinky dink company cant even handle 200k beta apps (ooooooooooo almsot a fifth of what Aoc or WAR had) so dont count on getting in open beta.....To most of us open beta means we are all invited to apply and will get in to test.......

LOL this does remind me of D&L a lot. D&L also had very little publicity, screen shots showed us amazing graphics, videos showed us in-game footage, there was a lot of info on the net about D&L. Unfortunately, most of that info was just misinformation, marketing and some even blatant forgery (Remember this post Screens of the world i find amazing ?). Just like DF, D&L was delayed multiple times, on the day of release they kept delaying it 1 hour at a time LOL - that was hilarious.
Im getting really bad feeling about DF - just way too many excuses and delays. And way too many similiarities with D&L.

Exactly, Darkfall just got pwned by their own developers when they delayed the Jan 22cd date, then got pwned again when they said they will do pre-orders to get into early BETA.

Meh, the fans defend Tasos, MMORPG would get a ton of hate mail if they didn't treat him with the respect the fans think he deserves. Hell Tasos could probably tell MMORPG to take a flying leap etc etc etc(well actuall imagine him saying something worse don't want to get banned for typing it. ) and some of the die hard fans would say he was totally right and justified in doning so, and praise him some more for sticking it to the man!
You know I haven't seen one pro Tasos post in weeks, but i've seen at least 50 claims that fanboys praise him as god and that his word is holy. Are you guys just making this crap up or what?
I am one of the biggest defenders of DF right now and I even think Tasos is an idiot.
So where were you in early December, or better yet in August? Yes the fans have been fairly silent in the last 2-3 weeks because even most of them I assume started to doubt Tasos. Your problem is you assume that what you've seen in your last 2-3 weeks of actually following this game is the way its been for the last year and more.
