Server populations are nutty atm. Last night we had one pvp battle last 20 minutes without any quitting and each side had around 60-70 people. While it was super fun and i got craploads of gcw you could tell the client wasn't able to handle it because the lag got worse and worse. Not to stray off the point, but yes... populations are booming, there are TONS of people now and galaxies is thriving again. It's a good thing and bad thing imo due to server side lag but actually having people is a definate plus. { Mod Edit }
SWG is thriving?
Merging what was once 25 healthy independent servers into so few servers you can count them on one hand is not thriving, booming or filled with "tons" of people. SWG has the same number of people it had last week.
Obviously this is a good thing for the players and soe finally got off their asses and did something they have been promising to do for years, but when a game merges servers it is anything but thriving. You are talking about a game that had hundreds of thousands of players once and referencing a couple of hundred as booming.

Misuse of the word "thriving"... Transferred my chars this past weekend to Bloodfin & Flurry and they're regularly heavy around 5pm PST each night- where's the majority of the server's population? Yeah, it's Restuss, it's quiet almost everywhere else except Mos Eisley's cantina which of course are littered with spamming bots and grinding entertainers. I went to Restuss a couple times and that's when I got packet loss and bandwidth spikes with attacks being delayed up to 2+ minutes, pvp really isn't fun when that happens. And after doing each of the instances 3-4 times, it got boring.
SWG is hardly gaining new people since there's no retail copies and no advertising and only a couple digital download sources. What you're experiencing is probably the massive incoming of server transfers.

Think about that for a second.

Oh there is advertising for SWG...it's just not what you would call traditional advertising.

Star Wars Galaxies population is booming, and the game is more fun than ever before! I just hope they introduce more TCG loot because that is awesome!
