While I'm very interested in both DF and TERA I'd have to say that I highly doubt they will be in direct competition with each other. This has nothing to do with game mechanics or graphics quality. It has everything to do with the artistic style of each game. There is a definite line between those that prefer western or those that prefer eastern art styles and people like me that enjoy both are a definite minority. People who like western art styles will play DF or MO and people who like eastern art styles will play Aion or TERA... it's that simple. I personally plan on trying all of these games as I like both art styles.

I'm calling bullshit on that statement....people say grapgics dont make the game.. so why would graphical styles make a difference???.. is it reallt that simple
Honestly, I didn't read the thread, just the OP's post. I DID, however, watch SEVERAL videos for TERA Online that were up on YouTube. Frankly, it looks to me more like AION should maybe worry, not Darkfall. The game appears to be more along the lines of what AION fans might be interested in. It's much too "flashy," in my opinion, and not near....I don't know, what's the word....earthy enough....raw enough....uhm....base enough? It's not hardcore and viscious and seminal and.....I can't find the words to describe what I'm trying to say, but if you wait awhile....some DF fan will come up with the word, I guarantee. From what I get from reading most of our posts, DF fans are trying to get AWAY from the flashy, polished, pristine, ethereal environments and styles and delve into something more gritty and real and less "fantasy pastel-ish" than how this game appears. Someone help me out here and come up with the word I'm trying to find...... Personally, both the styles of Darkfall AND that of Aion or TERA appeal to ME. But I like to have a very vast variety of games to play depending on my mood.
I love how people call it a "grindfest". Aside from the fact the studio states the game is made for a global audience, How long do you think it's going to take to level all those skills in Darkfall?
This is why people like you should just stop, think and quit your discussion. You like to play games where you gain items and stats.
Darkfall is not such a game, Darkfall is a platform for clan politics and character development in another fashion than the regular mold, grind xp, grind items rinse and repeat.
Most people don't understand how others might see MMORPG's and why they frown upon games that spoon-feed them and are claustrophobic. MMORPG's should be open and player driven but every other MMORPG is not designed this way so it's impossible, but not Darkfall.
more like grinding for weapons.. lol......you dfo guys crack me up...i can see if you never die.. but if you like the pvp you are going to die.. hope you have a cache of weapons.... gear grinding... rinse repeat...think i'm gonna stop reading dfo forums...i only got half way thru these treads and i wanna

I'll refrain from using your expletive and simply say that I happen to disagree on the grounds that graphics tend to be about resolution and color palette use versus art-style which is based more on cultural distinctive influences. The difference is subtle in some cases but have their own predisposed subtleties outlined. For instance, in Anime the art-style has a tendency for big-eye, small mouthed faces, wherein the western style has a tendency of more realism. Which is better? That is debatable and even more so depending on the artist used to create the character/background/enemies/world. I give only one simple example. So brenelael does make a point about stylistic differences appealing to one culture over the other. However, I am open-minded enough to try eastern arty-style games despite the difference in styles.
One more thing about Amime art-style, it's based on early Astro boy, which most anime art-styles have evolved from. However Astro boy's art-style back in the black-white-days was also inspired by Disney (a western style).
In regards to Korean art-style, one could say that is a permutation of the Japanese Art style with its own special nuances and intricacies.
Don't like the look of it at all and know even less about it than I know of Darkfall. Besides from the cities which look awesome (I doubt you'll be able to build anything like those cities though) it just looks like another crappy grinder. The directional aiming is a joke, look at the size of the swings they take, I mean who cares about directional aiming if you only have 4 freakin directions!! Also the flashes of light, the overly fantastical combat, character animations and sounds don't appeal to me at all. Those other two grinders look even worse and I cannot see how such gameplay would appeal to the same people who want a sandbox game. Maybe I'm wrong and they will be sandbox games but I expect item shop grind fest games before I expect such games to be a true sandbox game.

Looks like a MMO version of 9N (Ninety Nine nights)

you realy do prove the fact that u dont need a long neck to be a goose.!
