    Here, I made it easy:

-- $30 billion for a smart power grid, advanced battery technology, and energy efficiency measures.

-- $20 billion in tax incentives for renewable energy and energy efficiency over the next 10 years.

-- A three-year extension of the production tax credit for electricity derived from wind [through 2012] and for electricity derived from biomass, geothermal, hydropower, landfill gas, waste-to-energy, and marine facilities [through 2013].

-- Grants of up to 30% of the cost of building a new renewable energy facility to address current renewable energy credit market concerns.

-- Extended tax credits, through 2010, for such purchases as new furnaces, energy-efficient windows and doors, or insulation.

-- Tax credits for families that purchase plug-in hybrid vehicles of up to $7,500.

-- Clean renewable energy bonds for state and local governments.

-- Manufacturing investment tax credit for investment in advanced energy facilities, such as those that manufacture components for the production of renewable energy and advanced battery technology.

-- $5 billion to improve the energy efficiency of more than 1 million homes.

-- $6.3 billion for increasing energy efficiency in federally supported housing programs.

-- $3 billion for the National Science Foundation for basic research in fundamental science and engineering.

-- $580 million for the National Institute of Standards & Technology, including the Technology Innovation Program and the Manufacturing Extension Partnership.

-- $8.5 billion for the National Institutes of Health, including expanding good jobs in biomedical research to study diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, cancer, and heart disease.

-- $87 billion over the next two years in additional federal matching funds to help states maintain Medicaid programs.

-- 60% subsidy for COBRA premiums for up to nine months. Currently, laid-off workers can buy into their former employer's health insurance, but the premiums are often prohibitively expensive.

-- $1.1 billion for comparative effectiveness research, to help patients and doctors determine the effectiveness of different treatments.

You can look at what the stimulus bill consists of in well over 200 websites. It falls under the freedom of information act.

It doesn't take a brain scientist to figure out that 80% of the stimulus bill will not work. Here's a challenge for you.....look up the contents of the stimulus bill and then tell us how those pork spending items are going to grow the economy.

    Brain Scientist?

I find it hard to trust the right wingers all over this bill.  It's hard to trust their logic.

"We can't spend $800 billion investing in our own country!  This will hurt the economy even more."

"The trillion+ we're spending in Iraq is ok though, even though that money will never benefit americans in any way."

    You see my dilemma...

so what your saying is all the past presidents that had all this expertise in world issues balanced the budget every year kept us out of debt. made changes that where only good for us the people. holy crap again give the man a chance to get as bad as the other presidents.

Bush didn't start Iraq,  Iraq has been a hot topic for elections since the first Bush ran,   pretty much every elected official wanted to go,  dem's and rep's.  Bush just didn't disagree, and as it was on his watch then its his fault.  Even Clinton order bombs to be dropped on Iraq a time or two.  Which was his way,  to throw missles at you(be it Kosovo,  Iraq,  Somalia or whoever) as opposed to Bush's do nothing or invade plan.

Clintons own words in his state of the union address

"Together we must also confront the new hazards of chemical and biological weapons, and the outlaw states, terrorists and organized criminals seeking to acquire them. Saddam Hussein has spent the better part of this decade, and much of his nation's wealth, not on providing for the Iraqi people, but on developing nuclear, chemical and biological weapons and the missiles to deliver them. The United Nations weapons inspectors have done a truly remarkable job, finding and destroying more of Iraq's arsenal than was destroyed during the entire gulf war. Now, Saddam Hussein wants to stop them from completing their mission. I know I speak for everyone in this chamber, Republicans and Democrats, when I say to Saddam Hussein, "You cannot defy the will of the world," and when I say to him, "You have used weapons of mass destruction before; we are determined to deny you the capacity to use them again"  - Bill

Clinton's impeachment over lying under oath did go way to far.   Also Clintons Civil matters shouldn't ever come up.  Those sueing Clinton should of had to wait till after he was president to put in their Sexually harrasment grips.  We have more important things at the moment to worry about than whether the President slapped your ass or whatever your claiming he did.

Rep's are toying with the idea of a temporary nationalizing of all banks,   Dems are (and have been) talking about another stimulus package.

The thought of paying the government a monthly house note kind of scares me though.

bush did start the war in iraq. U.N came back said they didnt find anything bush attacked. if sadam was a threat he would have been dead long ago. our goverment helped him on many occasions. also sadam was smart enough not to attack us or he would have long ago period.

personally i hate helping the world while our country is going down the tubes.

fear and guilt still such a great tool for goverments.

its like a woman killing a guy for walking too close to her. and her saying he was going to rape me. and god knows over half this country wouldnt convict her for manslagter. thats whats sad.

People honestly concerned would be busy writing letters to these "public servants" and trying to do something about it.

People who moan and whine here are just looking for a place to vent, and spread extremism to a whole new level for both sides.

A president can not "attack",  there are checks and balances to keep them away from the military in that regard.  The senate "attacks" though.

Except if its a dire emergancy like when the Dem's invaded Vietnam.  *Which wasn't an attack because it wasn't a war.  It was the president of the US taking control of the military to do his bidding.

1).  They are.  In Louisanna they are refusing to allow much of the stimulis created jobs in as the plan will run out of money then the state will have to foot the bill for somthing they never wanted in the first place.

2).  Yea,  why are you here,  :P  Devils Advocate?

Im afraid it may be as much as a decade before this is fully behind us now and noammount of goverment 'stimulas' aid will help right now untill the banks are fixed and actually start lending money again.

Glad to hear it, now im wondering why don't some of the posters here do the same thing, since they seem to know how to run and fix the economy better than the people in office right now? I'm sure our government is open to ideas at this point..

and I never said I wasn't guilty of it either, cause i probably am depending on the topic

Do you honestly think that averting the complete destruction of our conomy and probably the economies of most of the worlds other economies was going to come at a barging price, than you're either foolish or naive. When Henry Paulson a dyed-in-the-wool Reganite who believes in small government and little or no government intervention goes to Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, who many on this board consider liberal scum, and asked for 780 billion dollars in 3 days or our economy is toast and it takes THEIR breath away, you know things are bad. Bad enough to realize that we are in for a boat load of hurt but the altunative is about a 1000 times worse! No one likes having to spend this much money to fix the problems but even the most conservative economist says that this measures need to be done and a lot more after that . So take a deep breath, tighten your belt, grit your teeth and man up and stop being a bunch of frakin's crybabies and do what need to be done to get our country back on it's feet no matter the cost!!! This is not a game! The survival of this country is at stake here!! I don't think many here understand that.

You see though the reason people do not believe it will work is that it  is not based on sound economic principles. No matter how much they try to convince people to believe in something, it comes down to their understanding of sound economic principles. They very well may have been able to succeed in a media blitz to run elections but when we are talking about people investing their money and our childrens futures that is another story all together.. Relying on " convincing people to buy something because they say it is good"  and expecting them not to think about it are not sound economics. Everyone knows that  the more the government spends the less their dollar is worth, so as long as the government keeps spending like this people will keep saving instead of spending.. that is just the way it works. Asking people to do anything else would go against everything they were taught about economics. They are looking out for themselves, how could anyone expect them not to?

Ever heard of Laissez  Faire?  It means the government stays the hell out of the course of things and let the chips fall where they may.  If people and banks made mistakes then a correction needs to play out.  And that correction does not include the stealing and pillaging of the American worker through taxation so that money can be funneled back to organizations and people who made bad decisions.

But then, we're living in a society that makes it a habit to never take responsibility for anything.  Everything is someone else's fault and if it is ever proven that beyond a doubt it was your fault you then feel entitled to being bailed out by others who made good decisions.  No lessons are learned except that it's okay to take from others to correct your own problems.

No one today has a sense of pride or self-determination.  If they did this moron we have as a President now would not have been elected.  Instead people turned to the "messiah" who promised them everything and told them how important it is for the federal government to come fix their lives for them.

    There is no one answer.

The consumer will partially solve the solution.

Look the tree-hugging policies against gasoline have to come down so people aren't juggling between high fuel prices and mortgages. (All these different blends of gasoline that contributing to it shooting up along with the stock market)

Continue to pursue the energy policies the candidates used for the election. Not just the demos but pursue nuclear plants like McCain wanted too.

The dollar has to be way strong again.

Ultimately the Payback for Democratic Elections Bill is just designed to slowly deploy into the payed interests pockets.

Look Obama said bills would be ready to view 5 days in advance. He said set the standards like these and is not following them. So he deserves all what he's getting.

Ultimately the people complaining against our side complaining is the ones who want to stamp out free discussion on the matter. This isn't going to happen. So quit trying.

Explain how this would fix the economy please?

Cause I just don't see it, banks fail, people and companies loose all their money, businesses shut down, people can't get jobs, loose their homes, can't buy food, etc. Sounds like the country would just fall apart at that point..

I would like to point out that many of the banks that are in trouble now are only in trouble because the government stepped in forcing some to do things they didn't want to and bailing out others causing a loss of confidence in the system.

As for what would have happened if they had left things alone, well federal deposit insurance would have protected peoples savings, jobs may have been lost but they would have been regained because big companies that were not being stupid may have expanded and little companies would have not only gained room to grow but access to trained employees to fill the positions.

In the end I am certain that had the free market been left to sort itself out the pain would be much shorter,  and to those that may point to government bailouts during the great depression I would like to point out that the only thing that ended it was world war2, I suspect most would no like a world war3 to bring us out of this mess.

Lastly I would like to ask when it became a good idea to solve a credit problem by borrowing money??
