"could" is the word. That means macros are in.

About hacks... we will have to see.

That never stops anyone, only action stops it.

We can only hope that we see alot of permanent bans in the next few days

More accounts for people that want to play the game.

Depends how good they are at detecting the hacks...macros I imagine would be easier to spot though.

  • SigrandSigrand Member UncommonPosts: 367

Yeah if they can enforce this, that'll be nice.  Unfortunately, I think they're so busy trying to get everything else working properly that they don't really have the time or manpower to commit to this.  Maybe when they're up and running smoothly, with more people in game, they can get this done.  I'm looking forward to see how it works out.

the have no way of monitoring the client.

Their packets are not encrypted either.

You folks hoping and thinking cheats will be stopped are in some serious denial.

What - they are sending account info in plaintext over the internet? On the other hand, I wouldn't be surprised in client side authorisation either :P

Do you have a proof on this, like tcpdump or similar?

"Anyone macroing within the tower protected areas will be warned once, and then kicked. Repeated violations could result in a ban. Spamming spells or any other disruptive macroing activity within the tower protected areas will be kicked without warning. Repeated violations could result in a ban.

Unattended macroing could get you kicked anywhere in the world depending on the situation. You engage in it at your own risk.

Any use of third party programs which modify or alter the game including cheats, hacks, mods, bots will instantly result in a permanent ban. There will be no appeal. No excuses such as “I was just testing” will be accepted. We will detect and enforce aggressively. "

    Thank you,

    The Darkfall Team

    How will they "detect?

Right.. no way.. So.. ahh.. Big scary words??

    I applaud their stance,

    I'm skeptical about enforcement.

Well they have a real-time monitor program running, perhaps that will pick up the cheats, infact i wouldn't put it past them to have some kind of sniffer program that looks at your hard drive to see whats on there.

then again all you need is a competant GM team.

advanced ai npcs + GMs randomly spamming innocent bystanders with "REPLY NOW OR BE BANNED".

Sooooooooooo watch out for those goblins, and be sure to have your chat windows open (no minimizing and chatting on vent only.)

    as always, good luck.

could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

I think its posturing. They don't have the will or wherewithall to stop cheaters. Besides its half the population do they really have the balls to band half of there users?

I highly doubt they have a sniffer.  They had a hell of a time running the game server..  I doubt they could run another program that would consume resources that scanned whatever program was running in the back ground of the client's machines.... (I also think it's a breach of trust and/or privacy laws)

What they need to do is get set up with PunkBuster or the like to have them do that work instead of AV..

this mornign a admin and a gm was kicking people out of town for afk macroing lmao

  • GorillaGorilla Member UncommonPosts: 2,235

Incidentally Blizzard hava massive staff and budget for this. They have in game people, technology (in the form of warden) and a legal team (currently suing mmoglider). Despite having more resources for this than AV have for there whole development effort it is a tough fight that some would argue they are loosing.

Ok so Aventurine blows in all aspects of being a business AND you suggest a sniffer program? NOTHING pisses of PC people more than anything lookin at whats on their computer  Darkfall would fail immediately if that was implemented.

You know Daarco I actually do feel alittle sorry for you. Its obvious you really do like the game but the only thing you have to hold hope too here is Taso's word, and well Tasos has certainly time and again proven to to be a man not to be believed.

Yeah, i wish i had another game to wait for. Would be great if Blizzard would make a DF clone or something. Just they idea of having 300+ people working on a MMO makes me...hmm....happy!

But if you like sandbox MMOs, you shouldent dream to much.

Hes talking about blizzard and 4 year battle WITH encoded data and lack of client side calculations. Lets just stop deliberatly evading peoples points with your replies because you are rapidly going from an almost talk-toable player into fantroll.

And anyway the title is very incorrect, try wording it better, like, AV dont care as long as you arnt in the safe zone. Which is hairy muff but lets not pretend its something it isnt!

Also the way tasos worded that clearly implies you CAN use a bot, as long as it isnt modifiying the client. IE like how most bots dont modify the client for the respective game, but run alongside it in memory. He does NOT define this as against the rules. EDIT  for clarification: a bot can PLAy the game for you without modification and this is clearly implied as being ok

Probably because like everything else, instead of well worded industry standard protection clauses, they made their own up in their heads!

I bet they even wrote their own eula out of crayons.

Playing polished, lag free, feature complete games is carebear. Whining about a game you hate but still play is hardcore man!

Never seen much speedhacking in WoW (although the cheats certainly exist), but when it comes to botting they're likely losing the battle on purpose. Most bots are extremely easy to spot, especially as the guys who run the bot farms don't do a thing to hide what they're up to... Still, if you've ever reported any of these totally obvious bots, you will know that they won't be booted off the server for a loooong time - if they get banned at all.

Always wondered if they're held back by a very strict burden of proof, or if they simply going by the "live and let live" motto.

You guys are not getting the point.

All they need to do is encrypt their outbound packets and encrypt the end user's client return packets. If anyone was to alter or mess with the client side encryption code it SHOULD render the client uncompatible with current version. It is simple really!

This would stop alot of the issues except afk macro'ing.

This does not violate any laws as the only file on the end users HD that would be monitored is the AV file, the one they own.
