What is a traditional MMORPG? One that is just like EQ? One where it takes days just to get a group and you pull the same mob for months on end to level?
GW is a MMORPG in everyway it's possible to be one. It's just not cookie cutter, that's what makes it good.

I've played GW since E3 (like most of us here probably). You have to know what the game is all about before judging it from the experience. The developers themselves consider it as Co-OpRPG. So with that mindset, you play the game.
What does RPG really consist of? I think the essence is roleplay. It is up to the community to adhere to that (other games control it by making RP servers). Roleplaying has no set standards because players and game developers have their own opinions on what roleplaying is. Even the most avid gamers have different standards on how to roleplay. You cannot say that a roleplayer from Japan has the same mindset as us here in the US. No, roleplaying depends on individual mindsets. What roleplaying means is playing a character that is NOT YOU... cooperating with the time and place of the game you are playing. All the leveling ups, crafting, exploration, and fighting are simply elements of roleplaying. One can roleplay by simply acting out of the ordinary. Does that mean that game developers need to adhere to those? No. Maybe only one of those elements may suffice a roleplaying game; it is up to each individual's opinions. There are different types of roleplaying (D&D to Ultima to other MMOs to Co-Ops)... does that mean they all have the same elements?
I love the game, but I myself have a few things in mind on what I think they should change. One being to open up the exploration areas to everyone (that might probably satisfy others' needs for a MMO... i don't know). Do they have to change it? No, because the game is fun to me nonetheless.
I don't compare games... it's either I like it or I don't... I just leave it at that. And this game, I LIKE.
This MMORPG.com right ? and we i only see MMORPG's over here so if the admin(s) think its an MMORPG lets just take their word for it ok?

and my opnion is i haven,t played it yet btw but i think its a great stp of the makers to push it into the free direction cuz i hope and also think that will happen for other MMORPG's and will get more top the public. ow yeah WoW is fun but again if you compaire the graphics i think GW is alot better
I was a WoW fan until i saw there gfx engines... I must say that i love all the entire features except the gfx. But i don't want to play a game where wherever i look i see strange virtual world. I don't think its too cartoon but it dont fit in the spirit of the true MMORPG.
I was frustrated cause i couldn't see a really MMORPG where the team spirit plus a good gfx was coming, until i played GW last beta. GW is not like a POPULAR OLDSTYLE MMORPG but when Diablo came out ppl said the same thing and history will tell us if GW will be a popular type of MMORPG.
PS: It took me 1 hour till i get all my closed friend(about 11) playing with me. All i had to do was sending screenshots with the text: 'its really screenshots from the game!'
Anyway, i play games for 20 years and this is my first post
Ive played both weekends e3 show and last weekend and its nice game but not a mmorpg in sense like ac2 ffXI wow lineage2 and many like these.
And i gonne buy guildwars for fun play between periods i dont play WoW.
But i will be far more involde in my character in wow then GW and the game world in wow is big and you can explore everywhere big open world thats mmorpg for me GW is is none of this.
But still like GW but for its just some pvp and go with party in lvl hack slash to boss do next lvl nothing more fast fun.
biggest diff and it is a big one is no crafting and selling stuf u craft. the world is very large . but thay do make u go alot of the way that thay want u to go and if u log out u have to start over your looking around where as in the old type of mmorpg u just picked up where u left off . that is the biggest diff. i see between this game and the old style mmorpg.
SW and shadowbane are both real mmorpg and they suck...the far away you get from those games you are better.
I mean GW is changing the genre, i dont know why people are upset by that...they want that every mmorpg be the exact same here with a different name like the rest of them?? not me.
i dont even understand why this is an issue... all that matters is if the game is fun or not... IMO the people who use the "GW isnt an MMORPG" arguement only do so because they want to flame the game but dont have anything to flame it with...

I think GW should not be called a MMORPG for the simple fact that it is one of a kind and it shouldn't be compared to any other MMORPG because it is the beginning of a new gender of online-play. As for the category CORPG, I find it fits GW better then MMORPG. Nevertheless GW has MMORPG elements but thats all. The other elements to it are new and fresh.
So can we all get along now? ...
From what I read here and else where, people just keep on bringing up the same points over and over again. In the long run what do we care if its a MMORPG or something else?...It a good game and thats the bottom line!
All that noise about GW is or not is a MMORPG, i saw that WoW is considered a Persistent Online RPG or PORPG, so i think you should create a Topic titled:

The question here is, why does it matter if it is an MMORPG or not? We are going on line to play a game with other people. We play the game to enjoy it and not to argue about its genre and where it belongs. Just play the game. All you have to ask yourself is this, Do I like this game? If you do, you play it, and you don't play if you don't like it.
It is just a name for a genre. Some of you guys make this more important to the actual game rather than the gameplay itself. I for one love this game, its great and fun to play with friends and meet people. So next time you continue to post, think about this, does it matter to me if GW is an MMORPG or not? Does it prevent me from playing the game just because it isn't and MMORPG?
