Krugman on the Obama/Geithner aka Bush/Paulson Plan

Why should the taxpayer be guaranteeing these "toxic" assets to begin with?  It is like they want the derivative bailed-out AND want to make a profit on the loan.

It is double-dipping.  I honestly cannot believe it.

I agree with Krugman about this "irrational panic."

It is like a panic was generated to get TARP 1 and TARP 2 and more bail-outs and free money.

    IT IS A ROBBERY!

In under 2 years Henry Kissinger, David Rockafeller and a generic Rothchild representative will be able to go on TV and say as much and nobody will be able to do jack shit about it but lay down and die.

    Well, I was be disingenuous.

The bankers are taking advantage of the crisis, no doubt; but the theory is that you can inflate out of this problem.

I think there is a HIGH risk that inflation will go out-of-control, and it will make the current mess we are in look like holiday.

We've already gone beyond the point where the past controls the future.

What I mean is that usually past events *frame* the sort of choices you have today, which in turn dictate what will come about in the future.  Only now I think we've gotten to the point where the power of the past is so strong that the choices you make today are largely irrelevant to what will be happening in the future, at least on a large scale.

Maybe I'm wrong. The events that come about over the next year or so should make it pretty clear whether or not I'm right. I don't think it will take any longer than that for what I'm trying to say to become clear to anyone who pays attention to things.

I dont like the idea of a Chinese dominated world as much as I disliked the now ending era of the American Empire "world"; when China decides to pull the plug America goes "pffffft". After decades of American arrogance "we pwn the world" there is a certain satisfaction, like watching the school bully finally getting it. And I am sure the Brits owning a certain part of US now have some old feeling to payback the Boston Tea Party, heh.

I am just afraid, America is like a deadly wounded tiger, and usually those snap at every direction, friend and foe alike.

Oh well... at least the Chinese are well mannered and educated.

The pseudo-intellectual European will rue the end of the American economic and military empire.

I love Europe; it is a fascinating place.  In fact, I am going either there or China this summer.

But!  We are in Germany to prevent the Germans from attacking others again, and I say it is high-time for the Europeans to begin to contribute the costs of pax Americana.  For, if the USA is forced to withdraw, the far-reaching consequences will not be in Europe's interest.

    • From Hitler
    • To Stalin
    • The USA has defended Europe (and rebuilt devastated Europe via the Marshall Plan)
    • And Europe should assume the costs of this protection and prosperity.
    • The little-American person is so broke, over-borrowed . . . she can barely afford her own education.

You want our money because YOU were so dumb to build an economy on bubbles like credits because you save us from Hitler and Stalin?

You are here to prevent Germany from attacking? Sorry, but my lazy countrymen, save alone that pityful excuse of an army Germany has, is a JOKE! Germans today could not even conquer Swiss! Geez. It is kinda shameful what a gathering of coward douchebags Germans have become, when our forefathers once had the entire world almost at it's ball all alone! If USA had not allied itself with the madman Stalin, people all over Europe and prolly US would now speak German and eat Wurst. (At least for the Brits that would be an improvement of cooking. =P )

Nah, I am a pacifist, really. But Germans are fat, lazy, coward people today; you really have zero reason to be afraid of them to conquer anyone. It is so pityful to see most Germans still whip themselves for things which happened 60-70 years ago. Germany is PLASTERED with memorials. I have never seen memorials for the dark episodes of other nations in them btw. Just something to think about, ja ne?

Eventually the end of the American Empire is indeed something that will turn out bad for us. BUT: when you act as bully so often and so long, you really wonder about that no one here really sheds a tear? If anything brought down Empires, it was hubris! When you act like jerks you must not wonder no one likes you. Trust me, we Germans are experts in talking about that. Empires fall. Such is the seasoning of history. What replaces it - maybe we all here wont see since some times it takes a lot of time. Maybe America recovers once more, who knows. I bemoan the suffering of the average people; it is always them who pay the most for the arrogance of the leading few. America gave us Germans sympathy after WW2 when no one else did, so my sympathy goes with American people, no matter what their leaders did wrong. But Germany is as any other ecnonomy just equally at the brink of doom. Its not that we have money left to spent. *shrug*

Personally, I was and am against this hilarious casino capitalism, and I WANT to see it's downfall. It is a sick system and that must fall. I have this overall feeling the world has gone way wrong, and time and again humanity has proven not to change due to wise pondering but alas only out of sheer necessity and suffering.

It seems wiser to censor myself on this matter.

We need the EU-contries to contribute more to their defense; pay their own health care; and contribute to the costs of patrolling, policing, and protecting the world.

We need the EU's help, similarly to how the EU nations need us in WW1 ... and WW2.

We are on an unsustainable spending trajectory.  If the "spending" is not stimulative, and not reduced, then we will turn a deflationary depression into an inflationary depression.

People will look back and ask how certain select banks got (a) bail-outs, (b) free money, (c) guarantees, and (d) other "rescue" packages.  The answer is simple:  just buy both parties.

The dreadful logic is this:  if Bail-Out #1 does not work, try Bail-Out #2, and if that fails, Bail-Out #3.  When will the spending stop?  They might not stop until the economy recovers, but I am extraordinarily suspicious that banking bail-outs will help.

How is a devalued dollar going to make your life easier?

Whose life is being made easier by these economic policies, guarantees, and bail-outs?  Is it going to "trickle-down" to you?  Honestly, I hope they are not using the "trickle-down" argument; the theory that we take money from YOU and give it to "suppliers," who in-turn will give it back to YOU because they use YOUR money in ways that helps YOU.

I am confused.  I think you think that YOU are being helped, saved, rescued, bailed-out, and so forth.  You, actually, are the person paying for it.  LOL.

china is making their fortune by manipulating their own economy so everything is cheaper to go through them.

this empty threat of theirs would pretty much push them in a direction that america and the eu has been trying to push them for a long time, increasing the value of the yuan. making chinese exports more expensive, and other countries imports to them less expensive. exactly what the rest of the world wants them to do, china would be punishing themselves and noone else, and they know it. empty threat.

    Here is the IRONY:

Cheap Chinese goods keeps INFLATION low in the USA.  You can buy, afford things.  It is why they peg their currency to the USD to ensure that US inflation does not reduce the demand for their exports.

We NEED China more than China needs us:

    • Buy our treasuries so we can have our empire, banking bail-outs, big government;
    • Export cheep goods to us so our people can consume without inflation totally taking hold
      • Imagine when people cannot borrow for cars, home, education to appear middle-class
        • This is my worry:  take their (i) rights, (ii) jobs, (iii) houses, (iv) purchasing power, and even take-away their ability to (v) borrow money.

    EDIT

The Banks know that you are not worth "investing" in.

Banks issue mortgages because it is an "investment."  They can get more money from you working to pay that mortgage, interest, processing fees, etc. than they could investing in stocks or bonds.

You are an investment in terms of banks loaning you money; banks could just as soon as use the money from their deposits to buy stocks and other companies.  Many do that and get involved in credit, holding companies, derivates, etc.

YOU are not, from the bank's perspective, worth loaning money to.

Your salary is not increasing, your purchasing-power will decline (wait for the oil prices), your job is being off-shored, and I could go own but I will not.

The middle-class, or working-class that wants to be middle-class, better get tough or smart - quickly!
