Guns with cooldowns? wtf?

prowprow Member Posts: 188

Why does this game have gun cooldown?  How the heck does a machine gun have cooldowns after shooting 1 bullet?

Dang, this game is not going to work if it doesn't get more realistic...

Coming from Fallen Earth with NO cooldowns (shoots like a normal fps) I can't believe a company would make a WoW-clone with guns... wtf?

Real life brings repetition and pointlessness too. The only thing real life offers is Great graphics. Its kinda expensive too and way to dependent on the cash shop. Totally pay to win as well. No thank you. Ill stick to my games.

EDIT: Disreguard this... Was thinking that this was posted in the Fallen Earth forum, not Earthrise... Both have Earth in the name, and one is rising, one is falling...

I'm sorry I don't play MMOs for realistic twitch combat.

MMOs are about character building for me combat is an afterthought.

Eve online has slow combat also and its one of if not the best freaking mmo I ever played.

I look forward to this game.

If i wanted a twitch pvp experience I would go back to my CS clan where people know how to pvp.

prow. Stick to trolling Darkfall, will ya? Just because this will be a sandbox MMO that will rape you because it's so good, doesn't mean you have to start nitpicking months and months and months before its release.

Entropia universe got system with guns cooldown. Its not that bad as it sounds. Well, at last in EU.

It works something like shoot - wait about 1 sec, depends on weapon- shoot again. Mostly guns with higher dmg have slower cooldown but ofcourse its not always like that (end game, rare, uber guns can have high dmg with fast cooldown).

About machineguns in Earthrise: they can have cooldown after shooting x amount of bullets or they can automatically shoot x amount of bullets by self after pressing fire.

Wrong, weapons in rpg's all have swing timers. There's no difference between the swing timer on a sword and the rate of fire on the gun. This game isn't a twitchy fps, it's definitely an rpg. If you don't like that, go play DF.

Seriously? lol?  So you play MMOs with GUNS to shoot in a "non-twitch" motion?  So you click a gun to shoot, it shoots 1 bullet then has a cooldown...  you actually like that?  seriously?

If I wanted to play WoW-clone-gun-mod I would go back to WoW and use their muskets the hunters use...  If you like that type of slow "non-twitch" gameplay, go back to WoW....

I am just trying to bring up important issues reguarding earthrise and how its going to be another WoW-clone with guns...

BTW... Fallen Earth is just like a NORMAL shooting game with guns... you can shoot IN REAL TIME!  OH NOES!

I'm sorry but you seem to be a really bad troll.

How is a sci-fi, sandbox, pvp focused, heavy crafting focused MMO a wow clone?

    Because it has cooldowns?

seriously have you ever played AO? its the same shit.

That's how most mmo games combat systems are why get so pissed off at ERs system when most of the genre is this way.

Grats to games like DF and FE that give people a twitch combat option but thats not the norm for MMO combat.

Also if you like FE so much why are you here bitching about ER? The devs clearly stated ER wouldn't be twitch based since they didnt want to give FPS vets advantages in gameplay.

As of now there isn't enough juicy info (known flaws) out about this game to really be able to troll it well...So any smart troll will stay away till there is some and well....you'll have guys like the OP that might not even be trolling but.....well, you get the idea.

Guns in RL have cooldowns as well.  Although mostly due to mechanical limitations due to heat or speed of your trigger finger cooldowns are there.

Just think if you could have a gun that could fire ammo at an infinite rate.  Good luck keeping ammo in it, but I would feel sorry for the guy in the crosshairs.

I don't like the cooldown either (at this point. Who knows, my opinion might change once I actually play it). But to immediately start calling it a WoW clone is very short-sighted. Idiotic......maybe even moronic?

Every single FPS I've ever played has had some cooldown. It's usually called "refire rate", as in, how many milliseconds before another bullet comes out. And then there's the 2 second delay that many games have when reloading. How is that not a cooldown?

I think people are conditioned to think one thing when they see the term cooldown, but in reality they've been dealing with various forms of cooldowns in almost every game they've ever played.

Yep you heard them right. The so called "Fast paced dynamic combat" is both less dynamic aswell as slower than tabula rasa. To the guy who said tabula rasa 2, ER is more likely gonna be Tabula rasa 0.5, a way inferior version. This game will die before it's released if it isn't alreay dead.

At this time it is a huge risk for a company to make an FPS MMO on the Sci-fi Genre.  If you think you can make one than go ahead and try and make one. Either wise shut up... Let the company do what they are doing and we will see how it turns out. It is ridiculous how mmorpg.com people think they know better.

For now FPS will stay in game such as CS:S. There is sooo many issues that you have to take into consideration before you think about making an FPS.

    Lag

    hitboxes

    registration

    etc...

Now the issue with guns with cooldowns.. They are not ridiculous 10 second cooldowns I think you are over exaderating a bit.. The longest cooldown is 4 seconds and that is from a launcher.

  • Every MMO has some sort of cooldowns. The reason is simple. You can't have

thousands of players spamming network traffic every 1/10 second. Cooldowns

is away to balance the network load.

It's either cooldowns or max 64 players (like in real FPS games).

A single shot, no, a six shot pump or semi auto would take close to ten seconds to load depending on how fast you were.

I kind of thought it would be common sense, but then again they do say common sense is the least common of all senses.
