And thats just a couple of points wrong with the review. I have played and am playing alot of Mmo's and Darkfall is one of the most immersive fun experiences I have had. So go stick your hands in the fire .... and why ? Because Eurogamer told you too. Pity the poor sheep.
You know this how? Yes and it s funny how I and many people I know have played it and left feeling almost exactly the same as the article. I guess were all wrong and not hardcore enough. Fuuny thing is I love FFA pvp and love looking over my shoulder in games, but this game just felt too much like many other games I have on my HD that cost me nothing and are better by a longshot.
Given the long text of vivid horrid, I come to wonder, where does the reviewer come up with a 2? There has to be at least something to justify a 2? Or, maybe, 2 is sympathy rating or minimal rating?
Oh guys, ignore the fanboys, they will sacrifice they own pets to the internet gods just to remove that article. Don't bother read or respond to them, they are bots, they are programmed to praise DF.
Just wonder, how does the reviewer get her hands on a copy?

Two - about as entertaining as 'flu
Avoid at all costs - this is less entertaining than setting fire to a ten-pound note. You'll have barely ever seen a 2/10 on EG - and for very good reason. A game this bad almost certainly won't reach our eyes, because publishers generally know better than to send games of this standard to us in the first place. In many cases these are your typical "straight to budget" titles that no sane publisher would try and release at full price, and they certainly wouldn't want us to rip them to shreds in public.
What you're facing here is a game with appalling generic visuals built around an awful design, cursed with cretinous AI, brain-frying audio and controls that feel like they've been designed to upset people or boost sales of replacement game pads. It could just be that the game is just so hideously old fashioned that someone has released the game by mistake. Who knows what goes through the minds of people who feel the need to try and sell crap? Pity them, and pity the fools that stock it and more so the morons that end up buying it without checking first.

It doesn't surprise me people still defend the game...it's typical when ANY mmo launches there seems to be a die-hard fan base willing to overlook any flaw, turn it on it's side and proclaim it a virtue. Darkfall's looting system is designed to create strife. If one does not pick up a desired item fast enough then the only other option is to hit the other player over the head and and take his crap + the items he ninja looted. If you are skilled and have quick hand/eye coordination you will win the looting game, if not then kill the other person

Thank you, come again.
-or- AV couldn't think of any decent looting system, decided to copy UO's ten+ year old one out of sheer laziness/incompetence/whatever and then sells it as "a looting system designed to create strife"
Yeah it's bad. I wonder what kind of impact this will have on future potential subs.
I would guess slim to none since they're not exactly having an open sales policy anyways .Maybe it would affect their future subs but i don't think that game was made or is managed in such a way while thinking of things like future subs......
I don't think that reviewer did their job very well, to be honest. While their overall score may have not changed, they could have gone deeper in the game and gotten some of the facts correct.
It doesn't take 5-10 seconds to change your weapon. Just drag your weapon to a hotbar box and press the corresponding key. This works for potions and spells, as well. Their posted screenshots show an empty hotbar, so I'm assuming the reviewer was constantly opening their inventory to switch.
Did the reviewer really complain that the entire economy was player-driven? Wow. But even that's slightly wrong, as crafting/harvesting related items must be bought from NPC vendors. Even though the reviewer was right about harvesting taking hours of time, they don't seem to touch on the immense grind it becomes.
How much time was spent on crafting? Did the they choose to not review that? Why is there no mention of how tedious and boring it can be? It sounds like they did not even spend time obtaining a crafting skill to criticize that.
As a side note: we know the graphics aren't the best, but they aren't worse than Everquest.
The reviewer complains, "When I swing a sword, I want to be able to hit something." Then just hit it. You get better at it with practice, trust me. In my opinion, it sounds like they didn't spend much time reviewing Darkfall. They may have found a few more reasons to push it down to a 1 if they had. But from the sound of the reviewer, I doubt the score would have been any higher.
My point: If you're going to professionally review a game, spend more time on it to get your facts correct.
Funny how most of the people sprouting good review hav'nt even played Darkfall yet. Reading reviews like this makes me glad I have a mind of my own. oh and just a couple of points,,
The Graphics although not fantasic are world away from EQ1.
True - the EQ1 comparison is an exaggeration to make a point
You can change your weapon instantly by adding them to your Hotbar.
True, but it's not particularly intuitive:
It doesn't work if you're sprinting if you're using a sword+board, you need to use two buttons (one for each) It can be clunky when switching from a bow if you ran out of arrows, which essentially sheathes your bow, meaning you have to not swap weapons, but unsheath them, too. Otherwise, if you switch from a bow in the hand, you'll swap to a melee weapon in hand.
You dont have to wait around a minute to die , you just hit the space bar.
That doesn't always work, which means you will actually have to just sit around while waiting to die.
The Skill with Archery is spot on and realistic.
I think the archery is pretty cool, but the only realistic part of it is that you have to compensate for the arc. Range isn't defined by the bow you're using, nor is it affected by your strength. Also, tthere's no accounting for weather (because there aren't any weather effects like wind).
It not for people who want everything handed to em on a plate
Yeah - using macros to simplify actions and skill up is definitely more hardcore. Please note, I don't know whether you use them or not, but many, many players do.
Obviously the reviewer is used to instant gratifaction like you find in games like WOW
He might just be used to a more polished prodct with a much more intuitive interface....
And thats just a couple of points wrong with the review. I have played and am playing alot of Mmo's and Darkfall is one of the most immersive fun experiences I have had. So go stick your hands in the fire .... and why ? Because Eurogamer told you too. Pity the poor sheep.
I'm currently playing the game. I've replied to some of your points above. All that being said, the reviewer didn't seem particulary objective.
I don't think that reviewer did their job very well, to be honest. While their overall score may have not changed, they could have gone deeper in the game and gotten some of the facts correct.

While I agree, there comes time when a person realizes that the longer they try to like something the worse it is going to get. A crap review, he can't even get some of the facts right, "random swings" ? wtf is that guy been playing cos it ain't darkfall. that review is more like the QQ troll posts you get around here.
i think the guy got ganked when he was trying to kill goblins lol, well whatever no-one reads euro-gamer anyway.
I m sorry, but it is the closest thing to what DF is. Can t sugar coat the truth. It s funny when a actual "sugar coated" lie fest is posted as a positive towards DF it s right but when the actual close to the truth one comes out finally, it s crap.
it's not the truth, it's his opinion which i think is wrong, ive been playing df since launch and i don't seem to have any of his problems, each to there own i suppose, his review will be forgotten in a month anyway, and darkfall will still be around getting better and better.
".....and I don't seem to have any of his problems....."
"It's the emperor's new clothes of 2009: such a marvellous game that only an idiot wouldn't realise the beauty of the gaping holes in its content, its wonky control system, and its seemingly decade-old engine. "
Althou I definatly not a fan of what Aventurine has created, I think the writer of this rewiew has misunderstood some of the concepts of Darkfall..He get's a few things right and others not so right..I must say that I do not believe he understands what Darkfall tries to accomplish at it's core(but failed to do IMHO)
He tells us that some aspects of Darkfall is unsure if it is by design or not !!!..There are certain aspects that I'm certain that is by design, like the looting bags for example.
Althou this is also used to much in defence by angry fanboys, they always use this to tell the negative folks that, this and that is by design !! -The poor quests are done this way by design so the community can make their own quests, yeah right !!!
As I said ..I'm not a fan of Darkfall, I played it in beta..I would have liked to be a fan of this game, but it's was simply way to unready and poorly done in some areas..
But the concept in theory is a roleplayers dream ..but for it to work they need to ban 90% of Darkfalls community first Wich is also the biggest flaw of Darkfall..
-or- AV couldn't think of any decent looting system, decided to copy UO's ten+ year old one out of sheer laziness/incompetence/whatever and then sells it as "a looting system designed to create strife"
There's a reason the majority of DF's population is hackers / macroers that use autoloot.
