Community... Seriously this game has the most horrible bunch of fools I have ever seen in any game... I kept telling myself and others that this would change for the most part when Retail came out... Boy was I wrong, if anything it seems to have gotten worse...I used to think Planetside or Diablo2 had a bad community, blah they have nothing on this one... I like to keep my general chat on since I like to answer peoples game questions and It just does not feel right with it not on... But I find my self ever second using the /ignore command..... Anyways im bored since my server that my char is on is offline for TWO DAYS /cry  so I just decided to post this... Mainly for those that are thinking about the game.. I would have to say that I would avoid it like the plague if your one of those types that hates obscene idiots spamming the chat...

Blizzard really needs to start taking control of there general chat channel, it really sucks having to loot something you kill and then typing /ignore <insert random name> and then go onto the next mob rinse and repeat.

    /agree...

the game itself is good, sure... initially my plan was to purchase the game, but after OB and seeing the kind of people who would be playing, i decided not to... the raving fanboi's may think they're helping to attract people to the game but in actuallity they're just driving people away... if it wasnt for the immature kiddies i most deffinatly would have bought it...

I also answer to "Peeler", "BigPeeler-RMX", "BiggerPeeler", BiggiePeels", "BP" and "Snake". Yes, I rather like "Snake"...

By the way. For future Reference, i do NOT have stairs in my house.

Weird, during OB (don't have retail in my hands yet), I found the community to be great overall.

Yep, me too, not in the forums but inside the game (anyways I just think you ppl are sometimes too sensitive, or maybe it's me ::::35::) (and in the forums there's also great ppl)

Hehe, on RP servers not many people even talk!

I just use the good old fashion "/leave 1" command

I too am dissappointed at thecommunity. I thought most of the immature chatter would be gone with retail. Not so. I think it is worse now... somehow.

Does anyone know what the rules sets are on Roleplay servers pls?

As in, is it a PvP or a PvE server?

    Thanks in advance

Now playing: VG (after a long break from MMORPGS)
Played for more than a month: Darkfall online, Vanguard SOH, Everquest, Horizons, WoW, SWG, Everquest II, Eve

Well I can tell you my uncle shuts his 10 year old son with computer games. He buys him a computer game and he runs into the computer room and there he will be every hour for the whole weekend (only time he lets him play them).

This gives him and the wife time together to erm"talk"image

So i am guessing many others have the same idea.

Best advice I can ever give anyone in WoW is "turn off general". Just turn it off, questions be damned. It is just a huge outlet sitting there for every idiot on the whole server to spew out his idiocy to all, when he knows they can not escape. RP servers are no difference, general is just there for people to complain, whine, insult and behave at their absolute worst, when no one can stop them, or beat some sense into them.

Just turn it off and the game turns a whole lot better in an instant. Few people use local to show how stupid they are, when general does it so much better.

Well its sad that parents use computer games to keep the kids bussy and off their back, but I guess its a easy way!

Regarding the community. I did like it during OB, ppl was mostly behaving and I was having fun. Maybe i was lucky on server selction? Havent gotten my box yet, so how it is in retail, i got no clue. Hope is isnt as bad some of u say tho. Usualy it gets better when the game goes live, lots of kids cant afford to play..but guess i have to wait and see..

Avyway, Good luck and dont give up guys!

Well, if u go into the theater on opening night of Spongebob Squarepants the Movie, would u not expect to see nothing but little kids yelling and screaming?

Yeah, and what does that have to do with WoW? I mean, if you think the majority of WoW players are 10- year old you're pretty wrong, though I suppose that the majority of the vocal whiners of the community have that age or have big problems (y'know there are different ages, the age that's written in your driving license/identity document and the mental one)

I agree about the "early" community, but I assure you it is only bad in the begining, when you start going in higher level areas it gets alot better :)

I don't look at the general chat channel much because I'm in a fairly large guild of players I've known for some time.

Okay perhaps not all the people playinh WoW are 10 I'll give them that, i was thinking more along the lines of 13. if you dont believe me just go too the forums at WoW and its not just the whiners either..

im guessing it to do with the server your on. i dont have wow retail but like anything there are dickwits on pvp and pve servers. rp servers will have a better community . warning though .. there are some rpers who are grammar nazis i hate grammar nazis but you could feel diffrently . pvp goons are generally a lode of dumbasses. aka if you kill them they say you cheated , if they kill you they go on and on at you about how much they owned you etc . there is usually the odd one here and there but my 1 experiance with pvp people is that the majority are power hungry wannabes. i dunno usually i solo though so im fine.

Hmm I didn´t really notice any asshattery in OB, or I just ignored them somehow. I do solo so it helps a bit.
Maybe retail is worse I dunno. We´ll see when EU opens up.

That has got to be the lamest reason ever for not playing a game.  If you are incapable of ignoring the stupidity of others and finding a community of like-minded players with whom you can play, then the failings are yours.

Seriously, if I found a game I genuinely enjoyed (as I do WoW and am unashamed to admit) there is no way I would let some moron effect my enjoyment, or stop me from playing.  With the choice of servers broadening and the range of quality players around, particularly through experienced and discerning guilds, it may be a minor irritation to have some

Your not immune to this by now?

In any MMORPG I always ignore, /say, /yell, /occ, and /gu Only dummies communicate in those channles.

And what are you basing this off of? Closed beta? That's hardly a good basis considering CB testers are pretty much hand-picked by Blizzard. And not nearly enough OB people got into the "high level areas".

As for me, I've noticed the community was a little "immature". But I think the lag problems really magnified the problem. I expect it to get bette, too, later in the game(though i think overall it will still be below other MMO's community).

I beg to differ... RP servers ARE different. If people are jabbering OOC/Of Topic you just report them and they get a warning, if they keep jabbering they'll eventually get banned. image

Oh man... this is just sad, I was looking over community reviews for WoW, and it just fit this topic beautifully.

"best game ever eq2 is nothing compared. i hate EQ2 and I hate people who play EQ2 and my brother plays EQ2 and i hate him hahahah he's so ghey and i r teh WOWO Leert man hihihih"

For the most part, I really enjoyed the community of EQ2, although I didn't care for the game.  As far as WOW is concerned, most of the people I've ran into have been real socialable.  I'd prefer to waste my time in WOW, because the game is great.  Youre going to stumble into some weird apples no matter what game you play.  Let's face is MMORPG's is like 80% communication and interaction with the community for the common good.  Otherwise, you might as well stick to Morrowind.

Though, what I imagine you really wanted to say was that you were mad because these 13 year olds are kicking your @$$.

If you say so, then it must be true... I am sure I played on a false RP server.

My first night playing I was watching the general chat going on. One guy commented that the lag was especially bad that night (in truth, it was horendous, though it has since gotten better). The chat errupted into a bunch of people roasting this guy who realy hadnt said anything offensive. It was bad. These people were having a fit because someone said something bad about a video game.
