This game isn't going to be popular in North America because it is another grind. Fortunately, I love grinding, but yeah, this game is another grind fest.... ...sorry to get you hyped up.
While I feel it wont be as popular in the US and Europe as it is in Asian, I think the game will be much better then all previously released "asian mmos". So, really, for those players that ARE looking for something different, and I know there are a lot out there because they bitch and moan all the time on this forum, and still want a polished and complete game, I would tell them to give Aion a shot.
I dont think the grind issue has anything to do with it. Lotro has a grind. War has a grind. WoW has a grind. Even Eve has a grind...they just dont make it as obvious because they dont have levels.
All games are grinds. The answer to your question all depends on your definition of grind ?
Most of the people here are basing there answer from playing on the China version 1.0 retail which lacks the content that the Korean client has.
Chinese 1.0v client has more grinding due to lack of quest and content. = slower lvling.
Korean 1.2v client has more quest based grinding due to more content = faster lvling.
But as I said above, all games have grinding (aion included).
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...
Is this game an xp grind ? If not please explain in detail how it isn't. Thanks !
We dont know it yet, its all about the leveling curve in NA/EU client, currently is a mix of quest grind and mob grind, if they tweak it a little it will be an only quest grind which i think is what you are looking for.
you cannot depend on quests xp to level from 1-50. Grinding is unavoidable.
care give a little more detail on this?
Anyway, I hasn't felt like a grind to me, yet... unless you think doing quests for xp is a grind.
I'm sure there is some area where you have to do some grinding but I haven't gotten to that point.
I have watched some kids play during waiting hours changing coach in China. During the 2 hours, I see him quest non stop. He tried to skip and avoid mobs not vital to his quest, cos he is too busy running back to hand in quests.
That feels more like WoW/LOTRo type of levelling than EQ1/L2 grind to next level.
Also I noticed his xp bars moves pretty fast. It sure does not feel like a grind to me.
That is, from an observer. I still do not yet have time to download it.

Probably but now people can play only Chinese or Korean not Western version , and devs say already few times there will be lots more quests in AION in western version than is it now.
I'm only level 20 but i not done xp grind yet as i'm getting a lot more from quests.

Very well said here!Nothing more that need to be added and to the point.Aion=grind? than Wow must be also a grind fest and Lotro and... becouse all r the same:P Grind is a normal thing in any game as long as u have lv.What is a good thing in any game is the options of that grind to get to max lv.If u have quests to get till maxim lv than the grind will get more easy(Wow for example)and Aion it loks that have the same ideeas but also u can skip the quests and get in L2 grinding lv stile:P. Like i said is a good thing to have options and Aion have it!
I'm American, an Korea grind is nothing like a American or European mmo, sorry to burst this magical "everythign is a grind" routine. Korean games are grindcore, there has yet been 1 korean game that didnt have you kill 1000... ..."aion is Lotro with wings "
No one said AION is Lotro with wings, AION is much more original and unique than Lotro.
AION focus on quests,Storylines and RvR, it is not about kill 1000x the same mob.
The idea AION is similar to Lineage 2 is wrong, and no, you can´t realize that by watching youtube videos...
You can try the game, every new account has a 5 hours bonus to any server, not everyone here play the game, but everyone who does (including me) knows AION is not a korean grinder.
Vanguard is a western game and is much more of a grinder than AION.
Even AION PvP is more similar to western games like DAoC than korean games...
Anyway, it is your choice, you can confine yourself into ignorance and belive AION is a korean grinder or experience the game ...
Even if the game was like Lineage 2 but with the fantastic production AION has it would be worth a try , but fortunately, or unfortunately AION is not this type of game...
Aion has no more xp grind then your beloved Lotro.
Seems like you don't consider questing as grinding, so you shouldn't worry about this 'XP grind' as you've already experienced it. From the beginning Aion was developed to appeal to both western and eastern audience, so it's not your typical 'Korean grinder with big boobs' as you put it.
It's obvious you haven't been following the game, nothing wrong with that, but just refrain from judging the game as 'LotrO with wings' until you've tried it.
I'm American, an Korea grind is nothing like a American or European mmo, sorry to burst this magical "everythign is a grind" routine. Korean games are grindcore, there has yet been 1 korean game that didnt have you kill 1000 mobs to move the xp bar 1.5%. From watching the youtube videos, I can see that this game is no different. Good luck trying to sell this is off as "everything is grind." or "aion is Lotro with wings " Seriously think the game is a great fuel for the Asian market, but as we seen with a lot of NcSoft products, they dont sell after launch in America, the people who will play this will buy it and thats about it.
It won't be LotrO with wings...
But go back to Lotro and grind... uhhh... quest until you are 50. You don't have to play AION, but LotrO is an MMORPG like every other, if you believe it or not. You quest/grind/pvp to max and that's it... That's the point in such games.
And I think NC Soft doesn't need you to buy it, I think there will probably be a big playerbase for a few years...
Grinding in Aion isn't bad at all and it's not like other korean mmo's. There is a little bit of grind, but not anywhere near something that would make you bored to hell. You can level purely on quests until lv30+ no problem and after that you have quests all the way until lv50, but they're not completely enough so you need to grind a bit of each level. There are people that managed to max out level in a month so it doesn't take a long time at all.
Really, there is very little grind in this game compared to a lot of other MMOs. Ofcourse there is grind - otherwise it wouldn't really be an MMO now would it. However, perhaps more important than the amount of grind is it's quality. Truthfully, there is not much grind in Aion, but it is actually quite fun.

More like WOW mixed with Lineage 2.
But he is right about "everything is a grind" in mmos, just some to better at hiding it. WoW did it with fun quests... so does Aion.
If you don't get enjoyment from the quests then you just see that as a grind...
Aion is a hybrid mix of Western style MMOs (WoW/LOTR) and Korean Style MMOs (Lineage 2 to be exact)
Like I said, doing these quests, I don't feel like I'm grinding in anyway.

people leveled from 30 to 45 (current max lvl in china) in two to three weeks, aion is nothing like lineage2, not even close.
