Haters, WoW & You

I have been keeping up with what goes on here @ mmorpg for some time now. Today will be my first  post...

The last month or so I have read so many posts slamming so many games, One in-particular ( WOW ) ... I have read slams ranging from WoW numbers, PVE,PVP, End game content, etc etc etc....

I look at gaming today as evolution, So should you. Stop crying about back in the day !!!! News flash we ain't back in the day anymore. Does WoW have its days, Hell yes it does But so does every other game on the market today. I hear so many people that play wow slam wow and all I think is wow. If you don't like the heat then get you're ass out of the kitchen people.

Fact, WoW is a monster... This game has set the bar so high for other developers out there that they are indeed  going doo doo and its rolling down the leg. I don't think they know what to do....

Fact, WoW is the # 1 mmo... Need I say more ?

Fact, Huggies are on sale today... Stop crying, It wont change a thing. Stop being a nerd about crap, You're only hurting yourself.

I would guess the same peeps that want to flame this game out are logging into wow today to play for hours on end, Or to be just what they complain about, Complainers..

Hate it or love it, But you play it...

ah no, have played it, thought it was terrible and boring, no longer play it, and will never play it again. i believe it lacks soul, personality, challange, and find the artstyle to be pathetic. all my expeirence, and oblivously just opinion. and please, refrain from calling people haters, because they don't care for the mmo that appeals to the largest segment of the general masses, the darkfall players might try and recruite you.

Clearly some people cannot understand why alot of people can't stand WoW. When you judge something you look at the fruits it bares. If a peach tree bares bad peaches why would you want to have anything to do with it? What this means is what fruits does WoW bare? Obviously fruits means the actions. Everyone wants to be like Michael Jordan if they love basketball, because clearly he is the all the greatest. Why? Because he involved his teamates, he understood the game to the core and everyone liked to play with him. How can we apply this to todays mmos? Well it seems as if most companies are trying to get wow's subscription base. And loook what happens to most of the mmos who try to take wow and are called a "WoW" copy. Like many has said, WoW has catered to the solo crowd and the gimmie now crowd. More than likely, mmo players before WoW doesn't want that in mmos and feels it takes away from the community which mmos are suppose to be about. Some mmo players want that kind of style for many different reasons. Just because McDonalds serves millions upon billions doesn't make the food good for you or it wont satisfy you fully.

The fact that WoW has the most subscriptions does not make it "the best".  Night at the Museum 2 came in #1 last weekend, but dont expect to see it win any oscars.  Danielle Steele has sold more books than anyone, but the Nobel Prize in literature is certainly out of her grasp.

    I agree,

I think the masses are the asses 100%

As for the Haters, I was referring to the ones who play WoW yet bitch about WoW.... Hence: If you don't like the heat then get you're ass out thing...

WoW has it's problems I will agree and I do find myself scratching my head and thinking ''There has to be better'' but opinions are like assholes, Everyone has one.. There is just no denying what wow has done for gaming today. When the next best thing comes along that works for us all we will all have to thank wow in one way or another for setting the tone for gaming today.

Arguments about MMOs are often like arguments about religions, completely hopeless. Most of the participants don't have any wish or intention to reach any conclusion or find any thruth. They are just preaching what they believe, and ignoring everything wich could contradict their belief.

Agreed, though honestly at this point I've seen more pointless MMO debates like this one than pointless religious debates...

I assume that is based off the company I keep but man is this topic old.

This topic reminds me of the "STOP MAKING FUN OF BRITTNEY!" Youtube video.  People hate things that are too popular merely because there is this strange dynamic where popular things are popular to hate as much as they are to like.

Well, I have to give you prop's for the MJ reference...

What do I hate about WoW the most?  That I played it so much that I'm burned out on it.  I do have a top 10 list, but there's no reason to post it, tbh.

Blizzard, as a business, conquered the market.  They kicked everyone's asses and continue to crit the industry.  Time alone will kill WoW.  As others get burned out, they will walk away... maybe not for good, but they will.  And as they do, they will post negative things and voice negative opinions... and others will follow.  But that's years down the road, probably after Blizzard has created the next #1 market-share swallowing game.

my bad, didn't mean to sound to pretentious about calling people haters..... been awake for far to long...  i agree, if you hate a game, why play it. makes no sense to bitch about something, over and over, and yet still give them money. like taxes, i tried it, didn't like, not doing it again :)

Personally, I think there are haters for WoW out there because in some ways (as was pointed out to me in another thread) WoW promotes some of the worst aspect of online gaming.  I've never played it, but someone said that WoW uses a Soloist kind of game model, that it discourages team work and community, not to mention role playing, through a lack of incentives to encourage that sort of interactions.

And I cannot see how this view is wrong, while some ppl might make arguements in the other direction, MMO's are supposed to be about a massive number of players going on line for a game that has common goals.  By discouraging this sort of activity by design, and being the most popular game designers are certain to emulate the 'popular' model and therefore hurt those players who want more social interaction, not less.

Personally, if this the truth, than I can not say as I am overly fond of WoW for this reason, but I am not a hater.  The only thing I have to say against it, is that I wish things were different and that an even more popular game would appear to encourage good social interactions.

Well I don't play it and never have, I also don't think it's the number 1 MMORPG. But then again I suppose 8 million Chinamen can't be wrong, right? Which means rice and noodles are the number one food in the world, right?

Besides if you knew how they counted their "Asian subscriptions" I doubt you'd have started this flame bait thread. In China you don't need to buy a box and can start new accounts at internet cafes. Blizzard charges around $0.06 per hour the last time I looked in China, new accounts are free I believe. Also WoW is by no means the most popular MMORPG in China with MU getting 15 million subscribers the last time I looked. So really doesn't that make MU Online the no.1 MMORPG?

The funny thing is people will hate on WoW, then say how much they love EQ2 or LOTRO. I hate reading those. Its like saying you hate Diablo, but love Titan Quest/Sacred/etc. or vice versa.

I think some people just have to hate what is the most popular. Even if they played said game for 3+ years, and have 8 max toons before they "saw the light". Or just play a very similar game.

Vrika's and your post sum things up quite well.  I think you both hit the nail on the head.

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

    2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

    3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

Can't the Haters and Fanbois ever just get along? If you really hated something, why would you nag about hating it? And vice-versa, Why brag about adoring something just to show-off? People need to learn that there are things in this world that are going to tick you off. Many people love WoW, yet many people hate WoW. Both should keep it in their pants and call it a night.

Only reason so many people spam hate post about wow is just because the fact is it IS the top mmorpg at the moment. So people have to or want to hate somthing so why not hate one of the biggest games out there. Aion has a bunch of hype and is talked about being a WoW killer but i swear that if it ever did surpass wow there will be people who will go and find every single problem in that game and spam these forums about it.

Opinions are opinions, but what we do know for a fact is that WoW right now is the most profitable MMORPG on the market.  Also, while I'm not 100% sure, I do think rice is the most widely grown and consumed food in the world.
Besides if you knew how they counted their "Asian subscriptions" I doubt you'd have started this flame bait thread. I realize this is sarcasm, but MU is a FREE game.  Those "subscriber" numbers are just the number of people registered on the site.  I'm sure there are plenty of people who registered multiple accounts too.  It would be like WoW adding to their number of subscribers everytime someone downloaded the trial client.
Fact, MU online is a monster...This game has set the bar so high for other developers out there that they are indeed going doo doo and its rolling down the leg. I don't think they know what to do....
Yes, I know you are still being sarcastic but Mu easily ranks on my top 3 worst games I've ever played of all time and I think I've played well over a 1,000 games in my life.  I don't even think it's fair to compare it to WoW at all.
Fact, MU Online is the No.1 MMORPG, need I say more?

@OP - And you are complaining about complainers, doesn't that make you a complainer?
Hate it or love it, But you play it...

Just because someone praises a game doesn't make them a fanboi.  I often praise WoW (and have plenty of negative things to say about it too), does that make me a fanboi?  I don't even currently have a subscription to WoW.
The point the OP that the constant stream of posts bashing WoW and other games like Darkfall is getting out of hand.  He just did it so poorly and insultingly that I doubt his post will accomplish anything.  Both blind devotion/praise of a game (fanboyism) and constant hatred of a game aren't going to accomplish anything either.

Or maybe some people played it for 4 years and have 4 level 80 will full epic set and is bored of it, and want something better to come out so we can escape from reallife for 4 more ?

I can really never understand how people may complain about a problem with WoW or any game for that matter and not deliver any insight into how to make it better or how to solve the problem that is wrong with it. Stating a problem but no solution to me is called a whiner. I used to whine when i was playing video games, i was 8 years old but i stilled whined.  People fail to realize that some of the people (i would go as far as to say maybe a good 10 or 20%) that complain about something on wow are usually immature little kids that have too much time on there hands and understand that the internet is used be some as a outlet. This is a little off topic sorry, but bottom line is that haters are pretty much whiners to me and people who play wow and still complain about it from my expierance ( played wow for 3 years) offer suggestions.

I think most of the WoW hate comes from people trying to show off their mmo 'street cred' by saying how much they hate WoW. As if how cool they are can be reflected by the disdain they show for the most popular game.  I would say its the exact same dynamic as was seen on the net when AOL hate was the big thing.

Ya, both AOL and WoW diluted the quality of the net and mmo's respectively by introducing the great unwashed masses to both but thats the way it always works.

Wow setting the bar high on mmorpgs like McDonalds setting the bar high on food.

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!
