He is right. EQ2 completely revamped thier game in beta to copy WoW. They made thier game quest directed like WoW which is a big reason why EQ2 was so bad at release because they simply did not have time to add all the quests for a quest directed game with any polish. EQ2 completely redid their design to be quest directed, solo orientated, quest markers, griffon towers and so much mroe stolen from WoW.
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Got any proof of what you say? Sounds like your pushing alot of BS to me.

LMAO. Do you honestly believe WoW came up with all of that? Oh dear.
If you really want to try Vanguad I'd say you should just buy a character. You can pick one up from LiveGamer for a pretty cheap price, like $50. Check it out.
All Vangurd servers now fully support cashshop/RMT, so you can buy a character and play anywhere you want!
i think the thing that will sell me on EQ2 would probably be the spell effects. They are way nicer to look at while i am playing, and i'm also used to zoning issues in other games...one of the reasons i left LOTRO was because the combat bored me visually, i just couldnt get into it.
I tried Vanguard last week and was actually impressed by it in some ways. Its all about finding the right class and I had to play a bunch of different classes before I found a couple I liked. The disciple has good martial arts combat animations and plows through enemies with no downtime. Dread knights are just a pure badass knight that hacks down foes with a big sword. Some of the quests and gameplay situations do actually require some thought. The biggest complaint I have with it is it borrows an awful lot from WoW for a game that was billed as the anti-WoW. There's still some bugs and mechanics that don't work quite right as well. A bit too many quests and for the most part they're pretty standard. EQ2 I've tried 4 or 5 times and really wanted to like it just because its got really high production values. But whatever magic a game needs to have to keep you coming back just isn't there for me. Also borrows heavily from WoW. The graphics are technically profficient but aesthetically challenged.
Both games borrow from WOW?? Not sure what you mean by that? They are the typical MMO format...One that WoW used as well (Polished from EQ1)
The heavy emphasis on questing with the quest icon floating above NPC heads. Never saw that before WoW.
Substantial exp rewards for questing. Never saw that before WoW, one exp reward quest was famously nerfed to oblivion in EQ1.
Rest state. Never saw that before WoW.
Mail system for item transfers. Never saw that before WoW.
All or most classes capable of soloing for exp. Never saw that before WoW.
Flying transportation. Never saw that before WoW.
Rubberbanding hostile NPCs. Never saw that before WoW.
Both games went through major gameplay and design overhauls during beta and after release that directly copied alot of what WoW introduced to the market. EQ2 and VG are more similar to WoW than they are EQ1.
Not trying to take this off subject but those are normal progression features in MMO..... its what every company does when there is competition for the market.
Those features make sense - There are features in Vanguard that WoW doesn't have just because it came out later. Vanguard came out with flying mounts and WoW used the same idea in their expansion... why - because its a good idea.
WoW is a copy with improvements... Just like every other MMO out there (except EVE).
I can see your frustration with the MMO format and I think reducing it to a WoW clone does not really get any point across... I think everyone would like to see some new format for MMO's. I can only hope this is what you're referring to when you say something is a WoW clone.
WoW is a great game - I played a character to max level (before they raised the cap) and it was fun... I'm not knocking WoW... i'm knocking the mentality of WoW spawning every other MMO after 2004.
Personally, I prefer EQ2 for the amount of content.
To be fair, however, I haven't played Vanguard in quite some time and I hear that a lot of improvements have been made. One thing I loved about Vanguard was the huge world to explore. If you get a good vantage point, you can see for miles and miles. I may go back and visit soon.
Vanguard for sure. To me EQ2 was the biggest disappointment of any game I ever played. Loved EQ1 and was completely psyched about EQ2 coming out. It released wtih a poorly coded graphics engine, a huge memory leak and what I consider to be awful combat mechanics and a sterile and unengaging world. Looking back I am guessing they rushed it out the door to beat WoW to market. I played for a month and got sick of reloading my os, reinstaling the game and tweaking til my eyes bled to get it to run half way decent on my brand new gaming rig I built specifically for EQ2. At the time SOE's line was the engine is just so advanced that it is designed to run on hardware that will be coming out in 5 years. I always suspected that was crap and it was just poor coding....and recently confirmed my suspicion. Recently I tried their free trial and sure enough the game still runs like shit with a 3 ghz dual core, 4 gbs of ram, and a 260 gtx video card. I mean it plays, but not smoothly. Also I noticed the same sloppy problems like tons of plane clipping issues that should have been sorted out in beta. Tried Vanguard and am loving it....it is a diamond in the rough and one of the best mmos out there right now. Kind of anit-WoW (which I also loved, but am just burned out on....anything gets old after so many years), it is an old school mmo like EQ1. It is everything EQ2 should have been. Hopefully at some point SOE will pull their heads out and get behind the game at some point. It needs some polish and support but it is really great none the less. My 2 cents.
You really think Vanguard runs better than EQ2? I play both EQ2 runs a lot better for me except in Neriak.
I have a 2.66 Quad core, 280 GTX, maxed out ram on XP.

Just because you can, doesn't always mean you should.
This is poor advice.
Not sure if you're advice is genuine or if you're having a dig at the fact that they introduced the LiveGamer deal.
Easily Vanguard. Vanguard also uses alot of CPU. So that is why dual cores are getting better results cause for the most part they have higher clock speeds. This is good for some and bad for others, just depends on your setup.
I leveled a Warlock to 14 and a Guardian to 11 in EQ2, then rolled a Bard to 7 in Vanguard and had way more fun playing Vanguard for several reasons. Graphics, performance, and it was more easy to find players to group with.
I tried both free trials and ended up on Vanguard. EQ2 just felt wrong. I'm not sure exactly what it is, but I lost interest before the trial was even over.
VG, on the other hand, has kept my interest so far. I subbed after only a couple days in the trial. I love that the world is so large and seamless. I love how deep crafting is. Diplomacy is a neat alternative. I've had no problems finding groups when I need to, and have already found a fun, active guild to be a part of.
VG isn't perfect, but it scratches more of my MMO itches than EQ2 or any other MMO that I've tried so far.
Current: None Played: WoW, CoX, SWG, LotRO, EVE, AoC, VG, CO, Ryzom, DF, WAR Tried: Lineage2, Dofus, EQ2, CoS, FE, UO, Wurm, Wakfu Future: The Repopulation, ArcheAge, Black Desert, EQN
I had fun in both. I'm about to start up Vanguard again with my free month. Besides the trial, if you want to buy the game, you can get it at Amazon for 80 cents plus shipping from other people. Just look for someone with good feedback and make sure it is sealed which most seem to be.
I remember I bought mine there a while ago for like $1.99 plus shipping. A few dollars for the game and a free month, can't beat it, heh.
I played EQ to lv 10 - blahhhh to the extreme sooo boring and contrived with no soul.....i have played better F2P
I played Vanguard to level 10 - I loved and and still am loving it......at least at lowers levels eons above EQ2.
Currently Playing: Fallen Earth Played and liked: TCOS, Vanguard, Guild Wars, DDO Played and didn't like: CO, MO, STO, DF, AoC, WAR, WoW, EQ2, EVE, most f2p Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, Secret World
I recently tried the EQ2 Trial and originally played Vanguard at release for a couple months even at that point I liked Vanguard more... you guys should check out this site though and tell your friends maybe you can help the cause, get us a decent mmo back for jimminy sake
Wow! This poll is really shocking me. I have defended Vanguard in many Vanguard Hate type threads. It just seemed like most people didn't care for Vanguard. Now here it is winning this poll by quite a large margin. Even as a current Vanguard fan I still expected it to lose this poll.
Although I am still disappointed in SOE for pushing VG out the door in the shape it was in at launch, it is still 10 times more fun than EQ2. Since they reactivated all the old accounts til 1 July I'm enjoying some VG right now. The only thing I'm not happy with so far is the lack of population on the PvP server. It still has hitching issues every once in a while but the game looks so much better than most other games on the market.

Vanguard is a better game, with less people.
EQ2 is a worse game, with a larger player base.
Overall, about equal.

Vanguard.
More devs, god damn give it MORE DEVS!
I didn't like either but disliked EQ2 the least.

Tried both and easily Vanguard. Only done one month of Vanguard though- going to resubscribe again sometime.
