    Looks fucking awesome.

Ok, this does look awesome, but I have one question/concern.

How well does it handle Walking/Movement?

'cos if it can handle movement well, I can definately see it working for an FPS or even MMO.

And I'm definately going to learn Kung Fu now.

Presentation wise, Microsofts stage looked better, but other than Natal, nothing was really great about the conference for them. Sony on the other hand showed titles I'm waiting on and plenty of them. I like Sony for there content, so I think they had the better conference. As they clearly stated, they are more about content than anything. Where Microsoft allowed you to imagine, Sony allowed you to expereince. But yeah, Natal will be good. I'm just loving Sony a little bit more with the amount of good games they showed off. Nintendo on the other hand, I feel asleep during. I'm almost sad I even tried to watch it, it was that boring.

I agree, Nintendo was only marginally better than last year's E3....  All that they had that was really worth noting was Mario Galaxy 2, Red Steel, and the new Metroid game.  I knew that they were going after the non-gamers but dang give us real gamers a bone.  Maybe with Natal and the Sony motion controller, Nintendo will throw some more love our way.

Ya I was quite amazed at the controller as well... Freaking insane, I can see it working well for most FPS's but MMO's not so much.

Yeah project Natal looks amazing. As far as consoles go, I've always been an Xbox fanboi personally. I was one of the guys who had the Original Xbox, and not a PS2 at the time, just because of LIVE. Did they mention when Natal might be released? I was only watching e3 pretty briefly.

    --Off-topic replying to quotes--

kakarotrage, actually, WoW is one of the main culprits for this dumb down of the genre. All of the important encounters are instanced. People only stick with WoW, because their friends are there, and their geared characters are there, and they're familier with the gameplay. There's plenty of MMOs out there that offer pretty much the same experience as WoW. I think with Aion and Star Wars: TOR coming at the same time, this could be it for WoW, assuming these games do well.

Teala, actually, the genre isn't dying. Don't worry about that, the number of players is actually increasing, fast. It's just that alot of  newer players to the genre probably don't know anything different than heavily instanced games like Everquest, WoW, AoC etc. In my eyes, that isn't what an MMO should be like.

But no, the genre definately isn't dying in terms of losing players.

Anyway, theres a couple of pretty big projects going on that are staying true to the genre (one being the game most NCSoft devs quit to develop), but they won't be coming for a looong time. Hopefully as technology advances, devs can stay true to the genre, and have it in 3d (I think this is what's limiting it, our technology isn't advanced enough to support this in 3d).

I can bet you, that one day we will see motion controls in MMOs, but it will be far after it happens on regular games on consoles, I think.

I think both Sony's Motion plus dildo controller and Project NATAL look really great.

I'm going to completely ignore anything Project NATAL has shown in the E3 video, including Milo. Yes, it's all very cool on video but anything is possible on video.

I am reminded of Nintendo's early videos of the Wii. It showed people standing in front of the TV playing Wii tennis as if they are actually playing Tennis, It showed a person using the wii remote as a sword while playing Red Steel on his tv (which later turned out to be a  CGI cutscene) and much more. In reality, it turns out the Wii controls weren't nearly as advanced as implied in the trailers and all it really does most of the time is using random waggle.

I think Project Milo was completely staged from the start

Now the actual on stage demonstration were pretty cool and in my opinion, both are very different, although Sony works with a controller while Microsoft only uses your body, which can be both a positive and a negative thing depending on the game.A sword fighting game would be better with controller, while say, a boxing gaming would be better without.

With that said, I don't think either of them will have enough of an attachment rate to make it to a hardcore game, nevermind an mmorpg. Both Sony and Microsoft released a motion sensor peripheral before in the form of cameras and while both enjoyed a reasonable amount of success, neither of them were popular enough to create a full blown hardcore game. All games released for it were casual minigame collections.

NATAL will sell just from the clip of the teenagers virtually trying on clothes.

People were given the chance to use Natal after the keynote...I think Joystiq was the site on which I read the hands-on experience article, and people are largely saying they're very impressed by Natal.

any sorry but manual controller combat is only starting to be realised in mmo's. so its going to be a LONG LONG LONG time until we see what your saying in mmos. There no "may" about it, its only a matter of time, but substantial time since MMO's are like 15 years behind normal games.

Did you watch all the conferences? I more excited about the potential of project natal, that thing is scary. sony controllers are exactly like wii but better.

MAG, now theres some MMO revolution we are going to see. and SOON!

The 'Milo' scenario is pre-scripted though, that''s my only beef with Natal, other than that, it looks amazing.

Yeah seems like it needs a convayor belt to stand on which stops you moving postion irl when moving your charcters postion.

the sony demo was alot more complete, natal is much more a work in progress.

Consensus, yeah that's true. But if they actually do manage to pull that off (it'll probably come out far after Sonys too), then... Wow.

Blueturtle, yeah I agree. Even with voice recognition alone, that'd just be amazing. It would make menu navigation much more easy, and fun. Voice recognition, in my opinion isn't just a little gimmick. That's actually something you'd use everyday, to start your music, or your film just because it's so much easier.

Imagine playing (lets say Call of Duty) online on Xbox, I want to listen to some music. Instead of bringing up the guide and scrolling through my 600 odd MP3s (which I have to wait untill I'm dead to do, becuse I can't play at the same time), I could just say "Music <insert artist and song name here".

Ah, so is this at all like Project Natal?

Knowing Sony, they'll probably do it better.

Well then we need NATAL to be ported to the PC - like today.   I know that everyone thinks NATAL is the way to go, but let me ask you this.  If you are playing an FPS, how does NATAL know when you are squeezing the trigger of your weapon?

having watched the "pitch" video for lack of a better term (not really a demo) and the sony demonstration on stage, i am excited about both of them! personally i think a combination of the technologies would be the best application.

the thing that threw me off in the natal video was the racing game. acceleration? braking? however, everything else looks to be strong, especially once polished.

sony's demonstration showed its movements are very accurate even at this stage in the research.

i would believe that having a controller with buttons and being able to use your entire body could be amazing, however i am slightly concerned about walking in adventure/rpgs... yeah its excercise, but going from point a to point b can take quite some time even with auto run, but if i have to jog in place to get to my destination, i have the feeling im going to require frequent breaks lol.

Yea but if they did have some kind of treadmill system you could use...that would rock.   I could just game and not have to go to the gym any more to stay in shape.   OMG...imagine the miles you'd have walked or ran while playing an MMORPG.   ^_^

Maybe you don't; maybe you fling out your arm as though you were throwing a ball of lightning at the enemy and the one that you're "aiming at" dies. Would make a good spellcasting interface for a medieval spell-em-up.

Yelling "CORP POR!!!" is probably optional.

haha yeah i can see the benefit, especially for the community it would cater to, however a treadmill type thing would be EVEN MORE equipment to purchase, and sometimes i wanna relax by playing games, i think this may turn my only relaxation option to television programming lol
