You clearly don't understand. Final Fantasy XI as most people who play or have played the game will tell you.. it's not about the fighting. It's about the experience and the community and having a good time. So while PvP can be fun sometimes FFXI is not and never really has been about competition. But I'll let other FFXI players chime in on that. ^^

So no playing FFXI is not like playing Street Fighter... if I want to fight against others then I'll play Street Fighter 4... which I do. ^^ As shocking as this may sound, playing FFXI is like playing FFX or FFXII or whichever, except with other people.

thats like playing street fighter or starcraft with comps... its boring and no competiion...

All about the balance...there are tons of MMOs, FPS, RTS, etc etc out there already that have plenty of PvP for us all to do.  It doesn't hurt to have 1 MMO thats focused on PvE and storylines in ones playlist!

Also, not everyone likes competition against other players, and prefer combating what the AI are capable of doing.  Personally I enjoy the AI more in MMOs cause I get to choose how to approach and take down the encounter, and depending on ones job and weapons, spells and personal tactics the options are almost endless.

Now you look at PvP and I know many will disagree with me, but really who uses the weaker attacks against others on a regular basis.  PCs will almost always use their most powerful attacks, cheapest abilities and most nefarious means to win win win! Once you know all the attacks that each job can do you know what to expect most the time, just don't always know from where or how {9 times out of 10 though it'll be from behind, while you're busy harvesting, fighting a mob and even other players.}  With AI, they will; while not always the brightest move use much less powerful abilities against you from time to time and the encounter changes much more frequently than with another player!  These lesser abilities can greatly change the overall flow and eventual outcome of battles more frequently than one may assume!

PvE is much more intense and exciting to me than the quite unfortunate and predictable PvP in most MMOs!

Final Fantasy has always been about epic encounters against AI opponents. It's a PvE franchise. To attempt to change it now would be crazy.

PvP in MMO's is an unbalanced mess, its for people who need an advantage to enjoy pvp. Spend endless hours raiding gear just so you have that advantage in PvP. Thats the worst reason there is to PvP. I prefere my MMO's PvE only. Ill get my PvP fix in MAG and Call of Duty II where there is balance, and real tactics win the day.

I like PVP because I like having the option to occasionally challenge my friends who raid alongside me. Maybe its a way to prove skill, but its also to help eachother out and figure out where you can improve. Again, that is probably more duels than actual PVP, but in the end its the same.

When it comes to mass scale PVP, that is just a fun thing to do on the side that should have absolutely nothing to do with the story or the pve element of the game.

To whit: If you want a next gen hard core PvP game, go play Aion. Go play Guild Wars 2 when it comes out. Go play WAR. Hell go play EVE there is plenty of PvP in that too.

I don't want PvP in FFXIV, the majority of people who are highly anticipating FFXIV don't want PvP in it judging by these posts and posts on other sites. The developers of the game have said 'There will be no PvP' in interviews... so, quit trying to make this game into something it's not going to be. Let us have our FF game with it's PvE focus without the hassle, ego's, and constant travails of PvP.
There is nothing -wrong- with wanting PvP, but it isn't going to happen with FFXIV, thankfully.

LoTRO is not a pvp game. Monster play doesn't mean you can progress a character through the story line from the bottom. It is merely an add on to the spectacle.

Please link us to those interviews where the developers said there won't be pvp. I think you can't !!!

    www.zam.com/story.html

"The interviewer also brought up PKing and PvP, to which the developers responded they were considering options for the latter. They explain that while the game will involve cooperation, this does not necessarily always mean party vs. monster. Still, they say PvP will more likely take a shape similar to Final Fantasy XI, and they seem to shy away from allowing players to simply fight and kill each other anywhere, worrying it could lead to monopolization of content."

And no, PvP in FFXI isn't anything massive. And if that's all PvP there will be in this game too, nobody should have to complain about it having too much PvP.

I doubt many FFXI would complain if PvP remained in a style that they know, like Ballista.  As stated in the link it will most likely take shape similar to FFXI.  I personally have no problem with this.  I don't think many who love and play FFXI would.

I agree that FF with full pvp just wouldn't feel right, all the FF even the console games are about working together as a team, having a group of loyal friends (obviously not "real" friends in the console games, but that was the feeling they were creating between the characters in those games).  SE accomplished this with FFXI as I made some great friends who even though I don't play anymore I still talk to in e-mail frequently.  I am sure SE knows their players base and are tweaking the content enough to give the game more accessability so that more people may enjoy it.  Full on PvP is not one of those things as they know it would most likely drive away the base.

As has been stated, there are plenty of pvp centric and pve games with pvp in it that those of you who love pvp have plenty to choose from.  Those of us who enjoy a more pve centric game with story line have few to choose from, mainly just FFXI, LOTRO, and now we have FFXIV to look forward to.  I will not deny that there is a pvp player base growth, however one thing can be said about the FFXI community is one of the BEST and imho it is because there is a lack of pvp.

    Edit: Spelling errors and clarification.

I like the idea that someone else mentioned. Something like a coliseum or a battle arena. However expand upon that. Give rewards for winning like battle points. You could spend your points for stuff like,  crazy sweet looking cosmetic gear (no battle value), house items, maybe potion/other items that anyone could buy with currency. Maybe armor dye (which I wish more games had) You guys get the point. Just make sure the rewards are not battle related gear. Where people might have to feel they have to PvP to get that gear.

XI had pvp (sorta) so i dont see why XIV wouldnt have something similar.

If it inroduced PvP like in WoW or RS  or other MMOs with PvP where its like "see a person - kill it" or like "mass pwnage" on one player i would be extremely disappointed in S.E.   One of the reason's i played FFXI was because it didnt really have forced PvP. Imagine, you go to the dunes to level, you're san d'orian and a bastokian sees you and kills you. You'd get pretty pissed off haha

I think Pvp could be secondary. Some Party vs Party in a colliseum or Player vs Player to get some merit points.

But i dont like the PvP in general.

pvp in arena is gay, theres no rush of being killed out of no where...

i wanna ask, is there any rival factions that can kill each other on site in FF 11?? any kind of hostility towards real people at all???  are there any massive wars like events or anything??

can you hunt any specific humans as quest??? like an assassin?

    Not other players, no.

FFXI has no world PvP. The whole focus of the story in FFXI is that of an evil that threatens everyone, so each race - despite their differences and little quibbles with each other - have to work together to defeat it. There would be no rationale to fighting among themselves... they'd only be making it easier for the bad guys to win, basically. The whole "united we stand, divided we fall" thing.

That said, do you have to hunt down specific characters? Yep... in terms of quests and missions, you'll have to kill a specific named creature, or sometimes more than one as part of the requirements.

PvP in FFXI is implemented as a side-activity, sort of like competitive sports. It has no impact at all on the game itself. FFXI is not a game that is conducive to world PvP, nor would it make any sense to have it.

From the sound of it, FFXIV will be the same; there may be competitive side-activities. But you will never be able to run up and attack another player.... as it should be.

I'm not that much of a PVP fan, I have to admit; and if it prevents FFXIV from becoming a backwater-image of WoW, I hope they stear clear of it.

That being said....what I wouldn't give to swoop down from a mount and assassinate a few bloody humes PVP style in FFXI....

I truly hope the answer is ABSOLUTELY NOT to any PVP that is anything more than what Ballista is now.

Although the term "carebear" is used in a derogatory way and meant to be insulting, I'm proud to be a "carebear" if it means I want to play free from the infestation of the egocentric thinking of some players who only want to run rampant killing each other without regard for others.

As others have said the are a multitude of games where PVP'ers can compare the size of their "epeens" and whine about us "carebears" who care more about the content, the journey, the community, the story, the challenges, and the accomplishments of the game.

It would break my heart to be standing in Jeuno and see the kind of trash that is thrown around in global chat in games like WOW (and yes I've played and KNOW this happens).  PVE content always suffers due to the complaints of the PVP 'ers.

  • redb18tegredb18teg Member Posts: 1

You guys do realize that pve'rs whine just as much as pvp'rs. If this other class is doing better damage/healing in a diffrent way then the other class what do you do? Complain. Your gonna have complainers everywhere so no point in bitching about it.

If you don't like to hear it then don't listen or read it and just ignore it. It's not that hard. There just people over the internet. Nothing bad is gonna happen if they complain. The makers of the game will not make any changes without testing out things first, so if there is a change you don't like blaim the company not the players whining.

Pve'rs complain all the time about getting ganked on a pvp server. Why did they play on a pvp server to begin with when they knew what was gonna happen? Thats why im a big supporter of pve/pvp sepreate servers.

As for go play a pvp based mmo, there really isn't a decent one out there so people are looking for things they like and hopeing to play that.

Like me I love the final fantasy games ever since I was little and played to original Nes version one. But I love to pvp. I find it way more challenging (to me anyway) then killing the same mobs/bosses over and over and over. Its the simplest thing. You can pretty much tell all the time, what they are gonna do and when. All you have to do is pay attention.

But that is just my thoughts. If people like to go kill just mobs that cool, but if people like to fight eachother then they should be able too as well.

And someone said pve suffers from pvp complaints. Well pvp suffers from pve complaints as well.

Nobody knows what this game is gonna be like, so you never know. Pvp might be a blast for pve'rs as well as pvp'rs. Don't complain when you know nothing about this game.

I think it would be cool if they had the option to join different servers if you wanted PvP play.  I have to agree that I don't like when the game becomes adjusted for PvP and kills the players environment experience.  So it's a hard balance to find.

  • jadan2000jadan2000 Member UncommonPosts: 508

They have already said PVP will not be in an open world form, and more likely to be the same way it is in ffxi 11

PvP has to remain entirely independant of PvE...if it doesn't then you'll get the but such n such class can hit harder than me BS, and then come in the nerfs and that ruins the PvE.  Just leave it similar to FFXI or as one person mentioned add in blitzball which could have a team based PvP element to it.  PvP should only be a side event or mini-game and nothing more!

Blitzball is an awesome idea. Though spike the ball so I can kill people with it!

A BLM should damn well so way more damage than a WAR sword strike, and a RNG bow shot should hit with much better accuracy and dmg than a SAM with a bow!  Balancing classes so they're on equal footing is not required in PvE, screw PvP, as there are plenty of games already with it and look how great they're doing....yeah...heh!

People who dont know how to handle pressure are the ones who are claiming to not have PvP in Final Fantasy XIV

There is a lot people who know how to react when a mob attacks them since they give you a lot time so you can attack back but when it comes to real people they just cant react in time thats the reason why many unskill players want a PVE sever so they wont have to worry about anyone attacking them when they are doing their silly quest.

If you ask me the idea of having a game like Final Fantasy XIV without PVP is just incredibly stupid. As you might know, WoW is one of the most play mmorpg  in the market since it has everything in one package like: quest, pvp, competition, wars between races ect... it meets every expectation from players. Can you imaging what would happen if they take out PVP from WOW tomorrow.... it would be a total caos nobody would play WOW anymore because there is not point on getting stronger in the game if you don't have anybody to compare your strenght to.

I understand the idea of having a peaceful game where everybody is in one side but if you think about it for a second, there will be a point when the players will get much more stronger than the mobs and then ......what's next?..... wait until they release new quests with new and harder mobs? or maybe do the same quests over and over?..... it's ridiculous. There is not a lot of options here.

PS: Competition between players is what keeps a mmorpg alive

So please give me a break god dammit you seriously want Final Fantasy XIV to be a failure like Final Fantasy XI you dumb fans

This post is so full of nonsense I'm not really sure where to start.

People who are saying they don't want pvp are doing so because they they don't like pvp. It's not a hard concept to grasp. Some people simply don't like having to worry about some tard trying his hardest to ruin their gaming experience when they just want to relax and spend some time in their virtual world.

I'm also really tired of hearing the excuse that it requires more skill to play against other players. No, it only requires a different set of skills. In most games, it's simply a matter of knowing how the other classes work. Once that is down, which isn't unlike learning the tricks to a dungeon, it's just a matter of learning the best counters.

Not every game needs pvp. City of Heroes was a game that I thought was fantastic without pvp. Same with LotRO. I works well in games like Aion and WoW. If you want to avoid the 'pve carebears' you have plenty of games to pick from.

Finally, while getting stronger is fine, I feel rather sorry for you if that's your goal. The focus should be on cooperation, competition, and most importantly, enjoying the game.

And for the record, before you call me a carebear, I should probably mention that I'm an Aion fangirl, thankyouverymuch. I don't mind pvp (obviously), but I also don't think it's necessary in order to enjoy a game.

PVP, with the current game mechanics implemented in FFXIV, will just be terrible.

The lack of freedom of movement and the ridiculous animation locks will make for dull combat consisting of people standing in one spot and beating on each other. A game has to be build from the start to incorporate PVP.
