Seems the last couple of nails are now on route to the Darkfall coffin. lol.
AV implement game feature poorly ? But they have always had such a devotion to quality in the past with descriptions fitting the in game features perfectly.
/sarcasm
I'm inclined to agree, I definitely won't be paying to play on ANY server if this is the type of crap they churn out.
Disappointing, and to think I was actually going to drop hard earned green on the NA Client. Safe to say I will no longer be making that rash decision lol.
Yeah it sucks, Mortal Online looks much better.
Let's wait and see how it plays.

Can't the weather be turned off? If it can, then it really doesn't matter I guess. Most people that love PvP will turn off anything and everything to squeeze 1 or 2 fps more out of their system. (At least during big fights)
In War - Victory.
In Peace - Vigilance.
In Death - Sacrifice.
I don't get why this is such a big deal. Why would you care if you're fighting in a giant battle while it's "raining" but your friend doesn't see rain?
It's too trivial compared to the other flaws of this game.
Because this:
makes it so that you can't see crap while the other guy can.
Its out of sync just like monsters were at release. Its obviously supposed to be server side not client side, since the weather maps and lore explain it.
That being said it needs sound and less freaking droplets.
Once its patched properly i would say its a decent weather system.
Damn... that really sounds horrible. So much for the "tactical weather." If its possible to disable, then most people probably will, since its likely to affect their pvp performance pretty much. So Aventurine put in a (horrible) system that virtually noone will use.
Even worse; if its not possible to turn off, then the hackers will "turn off" their own "personal weather" and own a poor sod stumbling around in heavy rain while the hackers got sunshine.
Because this:
makes it so that you can't see crap while the other guy can.
OMG! That's the rain?
It looks like some kind of effect like when you open a magic box and light is emitted from it. I never would have thought that was rain. Even in the context that the picture shows.
===============================
that seriously looks horrible. Not only those god aweful lines, but it looks like theres a 10 feet diameter of rain just over the player...and wtf,...no clouds? raining from a clear sky?
wow ok that's some fugly weather right there lol
is there snow?
you gotta show us snow!

Looks like someone at AV finally figured out one way to use render clouds, add noise and motion blur filters in Photoshop.
Well, many of the fanbois will learn there is a difference of saying you have a weather system and actually having one thats respectable.
Nothing Aventurine does will ever be respectable, because Tasos is not an MMORPG fan, but an extremely shrewd business man. If it's enough to say they have that game feature, then it finished. He is ONLY worried about being able to CLAIM his game has this or that, but the implamentation have always been pisspoor and rudementary.

The weather sums everything up really, we were promised:
"In Darkfall weather will change and will affect players in a real way. Wind will affect sailing ships in naval warfare; it will affect player visibility[1] and so play a strategic part in siege and raid planning. The direction of the wind will also affect how some NPC creatures detect your scent. The wind may also affect the trajectory of projectiles such as arrows. However, winds and weather will not affect the trajectory of spells [2].
Finally, Darkfall has been said to include a dynamic weather map that players can use to find local weather in different locations in the world [3]. This weather will move across the map according to the prevailing winds. [4] "
And got that screenshot. Amazing.
At least the weather is actually in, but then again even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

I don't know what's up with the dude who took that picture, but rain doesn't look like that at all for me (or in any of the other screenshots of it). It actually looks more like water and goes in front of, on, and behind the character. That picture makes it look pretty shitty.
The problem with the rain isn't how it looks, it's that it doesn't seem to rain for everyone even if they're standing next to one another - which is pretty retarded. It's not entirely client-side, though because it will rain for a bunch of people at the same time... so some sort of lag issue must happen where another player doesn't see the rain.
Either way, it's bugged. But it's not as ugly as that picture makes it look.

can you show us a better pic of it then please? i am curious how it looks for you
Just a correction, weather is always client-side in every game. All the server does is send the client a message which says "show snow" and another message which says "stop snowing". It's always the client that shows the rain, snow, whatever. If people can stand next to each other and only one sees the rain (noone in my clan has said this yet) then it is probably just a bug or one person's graphics card settings. I don't think the weather I have seen is as bad as the screenshot here either, the rain I have seen is not as "heavy" as that. Maybe that was a storm?
Client side weather does not work in a game like this, especally when the creators claim weather affects gameplay. It will suck balls hardcore to come into some heavy fog and someone in the area has a sunny day , you dont see him yet he sees you. Weather has always been fluff in other games yet here its supposed to give you an advantage in some situations.,
All it really does is screw you with no lube since your opponents happen to not be affected by the weather your enduring.
Pathetic indeed. If AV was having trouble implementing their weather system it was best off they would have mentioned it and patch it at a later date.
This does prove 100% that av has NO test servers and Dont test their shit before implementing it.
Watching Fanbois drop their soap in a prison full of desperate men.
You can't turn it off no and its no lag issue but rain is just awfull plus fact that one standing next to you have sunshining or the rain suddenly stop its rediculous:(
Its not a gamebreaker for me and some weather elements are nice the nighttime looks very nice but this weather is just a after thought fastly implemented for US launch:(

Actually weather was server-side in Planetside. Its main drawback though was players could choose whether to or not to render it. It depends on the game as to which way it is handled and AV just chose to go with the easier choice it seems.
Server side weather has obvious drawbacks (its more work for the server) but it also pays off in some cases. Theres nothing wrong with AV using client side weather, but it means that there is alot more comunication needed between the server and client to make certain the effect works the way intended.
I hope AV will get the weather fixxed and make it capable of actually having a strategic effect on pvp.
This isn’t surprising. Their complete fail on the weather system is a continued testament, since their beta, to less than mediocre effort, at best.
Aventurines’ complete spin about this so-called expansion is nothing more than hot-fixes to elements that have been broke or poorly implemented in this game. And those that continue to subscribe to this experiment are just the marks that the scammers at Aventurine were hoping to get their claws into for continued funding of an ever-failing endeavor.
