What type of vehicle physics engine do you think Icarus should use in FE? A nonrealistic engine, a la GTA3, being able to do flips and spins off of jumps and such? Or, a more realistic engine, such as in a racing sim like Project Gotham? Or somewhere in between?
Personally, I'm in love with the crazy engine they use in GTA3, and I think it would really be fun in a big post-nuclear desert of sand dunes..

Imagine the possibilities of terrain deformation plus gta physics though! Get your entire guild to start work on making a massive jump with rocket launchers, then take turns doing tricks off of it! Because god knows, the people in the post-apocalyptic future will need extreme sports.

I so need a game like this! I can't wait to drive online! Does anyone know how much gameplay is driving compared to walking in Fallen Earth?
I think they said somewhere that the ability to make vehicles will be in there from the start, but people probably won't be able to make them until 6 months to 1 year in game. Once you get a vehicle, you could basically drive everywhere if you want.

Games Tried:
Everquest (boring)
Earth and Beyond (kinda fun, kinda boring)
Planetside (rather play Counter-Strike)
Lineage 2 (see Everquest above, plus too many PKers and Bots)
Guild Wars [E3 trial] (Not too bad, nothing very new though)
Eve Online (somewhat fun, somewhat repetetive)
WoW (not my cup of tea)
Waiting for:
Fallen Earth (Post-apoc just rules!)
Waiting For: something good
Games Tried: SWTOR, Star Trek Online, EQ, EQ2, Earth and Beyond, Planetside, Lineage 2, Eve Online, WoW, City of Heroes, City of Villians, Auto Assault, Fallen Earth

I hope they use realistic physics. I hate it when you crash into a tree or hit a rock and it stops you dead in your tracks when the tree should have been leveled or the rock crushed, or when you hit the top of a dune and dont jump and then land and you end up blowing up.....
I hope it doesn't take 6 months to a year to get the first vehicle, that would just be ludicrous for us vehicle lovers.
Vehicles may take months for people to craft but whats to say they wont be avaialable in other forms such as npc dealers, but crafted versions being far superior...
As for the physics, i think that with their deformation feature, it will look real nice ^^
One thing I would like to know about vehicles is this: Can a player who doesn't own a vehicle still drive his friends vehicle?
Terrain Deforming: AWESOME! Making jumps and such also awesome. I have a feeling that they will be going for more realistic vehicles but that still doesn't mean you can't do jumps and such. The buggy is an awsome off-roader and is capable of flinging itself at insane distances and surviving.
Let's just hope Icarus reads this and plays on our suggestions.
yes its multi passanger cars
and the physics could be like flatout
Always do the right thing
explain the physics in flatout, I know not of them.

ooh the physics of flatout is the most realistic the shock and tiers all do the same as a normal car do but thay where like really light so its kinda like a dune buggy
if u want the demo just check it out on gamespot.com

Tron phsyics , i want that super fast speed and 90 degree instant cornering!
But seriously i would love to have realistic physics. Trees that get mowed down , rocks you can drive over, walls to crash through. Tanks where if you don't have rubber on the treads and you try and stop on concrete or blacktop you just go sliding like you were on ice. I don't care if i have to wait to drive or fly but i don't want it to be some cheesy thing that ticks me off 90% of the time because of poor collision detection.
On another note ,, vehicle damage to mobs and players, First person view for vehicles so it is like we are driving and not just playing some video game.
yeah!
but it could be more car driveing than just driveing over an dune 10,000 more!
more cars who look like the one today and races
Always do the right thing
A thought concerning vehicles. If the vehicles are so expensive/hard to crete, I don't think you would risk jumping with something that valueable. you will probably scream if someone accidentally scratches the paint on it with a weapon while entering it.
would be fun if fuel was a factor too.
if you've seen the video with the storyline, he trades work for gas. Fuel would definately be an issue for vehicle owners. And I'm sure you'll probably strip your vehicles down and then reinforce them if you want them to be ok, so you won't have to worry about people scratching your paint.

Have they talked about motorbikes? Cause thats what I want, a bike gang of raiders ala road warrior.
I'm pretty sure there hasn't been any official word on the plethora of vehicles they are planning to offer, but I'm fairly certain it won't be limited to -only- buggies.
I'm not saying there will be motorbikes, but i wouldb't count it out.
Well look at it this way for motorbikes.
Even if there isn't when it launches, there's always the possibility of future patches and updates.
Angels Forever, Forever Angels!
Yeah, I do hope they can manage to keep the feeling that items (hitech) is very rare. perhaps put some kind of cap on items so there can only be like 1vehicle for every 10 players in the game, or something.
I'd hate to see every other player cruising around with a dunebuggy with a roofmounted .50 machinegun. =( if I manage to find an old WW2 infantry rifle and a few bullets for it, I want to be extatic over it!
With that said I'd love to see players think twice before using their rifles (and other Hightech-equipment) since ammunition/batteries/whatnot is rare, and perhaps use their lowtech-items in regular encounters and the "heavy artillery" when you encounter that "untra-tough mutated Crocodile" or something.
I definitely want to see a realistic physics engine as well, with no insane jumps taking place. After all, this is a fallen earth, not the moon!
As far as the scarcity of technology, they could approach it like Wastelands and the Fallout series. Where most of the vehicles would be within the grasp of powerful gangs, or maybe a humvee leftover in an old army installation. Of course, any vehicles you find I would like to see the need to repair them.
As far as being able to reproduce them, that depends on what type of technology Icarus decides to equip the players with. As recreating a car would take a hi degree of skill. parts, and definitely physical/mechanical labor. Maybe the answer is that cars will only be available at first to the lucky few who have salvaged them from old military installations and managed to have them repaired. I definitely agree with you all, that mass production of vehicles is something that I don't want to see right off the bat, but realistically, I don't see it being out of question that the players, over time will develop the skills, tools, equipment necessary to start producing them. The same goes with firearms. I would hate to think that the only way I could get my hands on a pistol or shotgun and the ammunition for it, would be to find it somewhere!
Who wants to play in a post-apocolyptic era with swords, bows and arrows? I mean, I can see that to an extent, but come on, there are plenty of fantasy MMO's out there for that,. With a bunvh of new ones coming out next year as well! I'm sure we all want our shotguns, pistols, etc.. Now, maybe automated weapons like machine-guns would be a tad more scarce.
But, it's not my game, but man I can't wait to play it !
See, the thing about the Fallout series is that as it went on, tech was more spread out. In Fallout 1, only a few had tech above the basics. But in Fallout 2, the tech was more spread out. The best armor and weapons in Fallout 1 most NPCs had was Metal Armor and an SMG or Rifle while in Fallout 2 you'd see many with the green Combat Armor and even energy weapons.
As the game goes on, more and more will get better tech, and the general tech level will increase. So for a while only a few elite groups will have vehicles, but maybe 2 years into the game 1 out of 4 or 5 will have vehilces.
