They decided to installs GameGuard on your HDD. So, unless I decide to shell out money for a separate gaming rig or waste my time partitioning my HDD; I'm not going to pay for this crap.

GG != rootkit.
No cuz i wont buy it. You can have ppl watching what u google and what u watch on youtube. Maybe that is cool if your a Chinaman, but it's not cool if you live in a "free country".

You win some and you lose some.
Many users complain of how many cheaters/bots are in any MMO game. This could be there way of increasing GameGuard security to prevent cheats/bots/hacks to bypass it.
You're not significant one to be watched, believe me

I searched the GD for rootkit and nothing came up, sorry. But, I'll bring it up again because people should know when they are treated like criminals for no other reason then buying a game.

Hardly a cause for real concern, many MMO's use Gameguard. Just because it operates similarly to a rootkit doesn't mean that it will cause problems on your machine. If it did, then major companies such as NCSoft wouldn't use it.
Edit: And by the way, even in a free country there are rules. You aren't being treated like a criminal when precautionary measures are taken to reduce the ability to cheat. Honestly, if you are so upset about this, I am glad you aren't getting the game because I want everyone to cooperate with Aion's rules. Hacking in a pvp game = not fun f or the nonhackers.
Is it a rootkit or spyware?
Do you even know what your talking about?
Look, the big issue with Gameguard is that it is hard to uninstall. It doesn't do anything nasty to your system at all. What Gameguard does is monitors your entire memory range to scan for cheats and terminate any application that is in their database as a cheat. They used to have a lot of problems with compatibility with other programs but most of that is fixed.
If you are worried about invasions of privacy I would be more concerned with Blizzard's Warden than GG.
Rootkit, Gameguard, Firewall, Anti-virus, Virus, how they work and how to configure them. Might want to read it over somewhere online.
If this is troll attempt, then pretend I did not say anything, since it is meaningless.
My rig can run any game with Gameguard and still does fine, in fact my asshat friend is playing on my OBT account because he did not bother to learn how to setup his rig properly. Which is severely cutting into my OBT time for the past 8 or 9 hours. I've lost track.
Sorry to have lost you in Aion, good bye (AOL voice).
Rootkit stays in memory from boot to shutdown... GG stays only when you actually run the game. It's like a temp parental lock for the game, not a 24/7 CCTV watcher

Criminal, you know whats criminal? You live in SD CA and your playing mmos instead of surfing Trestles.
Are you kidding me? Are people really that paranoid???
I'm no hacker I promise you. In fact a guild I belong to forbids such acts. I just think its as wrong to assume everyone is a criminal. And if a ever decided that the game was not worth playing it is a pain to uninstall the rootkit, and I'm not that tech savvy, forget about the majority of people who don't even realize what GameGuard is.

Well the people who don't know would never even notice the DLL that stays behind and does nothing when the game isn't running, so they probably wouldn't mind.

Yeah, people who doesn't actually read up in detail about Gameguard and rootkit seem to think they are equal to each other.
Gameguard only use the method SIMILAR to rootkit to hide the processes. Actual rootkit is aiming to take over the computer, while Gameguard is active while gaming to prevent use of certain programs and hacks. Even though people already learned how to hack it to remove or disable it in order to bot since GG actually get in the way when it is active.
Gameguard does still have useless left over files embeded somewhere when uninstalled, but those are inactive and does nothing except existing. Which for some can be an eyesore I suppose.
I do think Gameguard need to come out with an super easy patch or interface for people to use, I already configed my rig to not be affected by GG (which I owe my error less OBT to). However, those without much information on the matter or simply too lazy need a better way it seems. Even I feel lazy at times.
This is officially the worst reason not to buy a game....in history!

I didn't have to configure anything. I have Avast! running at all times and Windows firewall (just because it's already there). This has been my setup for years and the only time I've ever had a problem was AC would not run in Vista with Avast! installed.
For those who are worried. If you uninstall Aion and want to make sure GG is gone all you have to do is the following. Go to the folder Aion was in, make sure nothing is left. Go to your system32 folder and find npptnt2.sys and nppt9x.vxd and delete them. Remove HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NPPTNT2 from your registry.
Now, I know this sounds horrible to some, however, there are TONS of poorly written programs out there that don't fully uninstall on their own. Leaving a couple of DLLs and registry strings does not make a program a rootkit, it makes it poorly coded. If you remember the Sony rootkit, there wasn't a way to uninstall it, until Sony released a program to remove it, which only added more software to your system that couldn't be removed.
So someone will know my favorite type of porn, and most likely watch it also?
Kinky.
Apparently the search function just does not work. I did a search for Aion and came up with zero results. So no wonder people can't find anything.
In any case there were several other threads in this forum that became quite long about the whole root kit thing. This has been going on since they added it to Lineage 2.
for the record I've never had any issues. there have also been quite a few counter arguments as to what game guard actually does.
However, if you can't abide it then that is your business. No need to play then.

Wow... you guys are REALLY paranoid.
GameGuard has been in business for what... 4 years? Probably more. It's installed on over 260 games. Now, this should tell you already they obviously don't hack people's computers.
Secondly, what make YOU so big they want to track YOU? Yay, they know what you YouTube, because of this invalueable information, that you've watched Chocolate Rain 28.542 times, they can now scam your bank account, steal your identity, and kill you.
I know we live in America, but does that mean all Americans have to be paranoid that every little thing is going to steal something or take away their freedom? "Oh my! A security camera, it's taking away my freedom by watching me".
In the end, GameGuard is harmless. It's not hurting your computer, their not collecting your YouTube searches you paranoid being. Not to mention anytime you make a transaction of money, it''s encrypted. Personally, I doubt the guys that have licensed software to 260 games, needs whatever is left in your bank account. Then again, if you're like this with everything, all your money is probably in a safe under your house, you know that the banks are working together to shut down and steal all of the money, with the Mafia tells the government not to backup their FDIC claims.
No, I am not an Aion fanboi, personally, I don't like the game that much. I'm just tired of seeing this crap about anything at least attempting to protect you being thrown around as an invasion of privacy.

You are actually one of lucky ones then, some use software that cause huge conflict with GG. However, those softwares are usually not even needed for a computer. I mean who really needs 4 active firewalls on a personal computer? (Old example from an old roomate)
Some of those software require some config to do the job of using them with GG. Nothing hard, and plenty of information on the web about how to do it. Basically, the information is out there, I just hope gamers start to go out and grab them.
I totally agree with you on the sheer armount of badly written programs that leave behind files.

Ugh, don't even mention registry cleaners. The last one I tried deleted almost my entire registry. I had to boot from disc and do a system restore.
