The one IP I really love has been done....and is being done again right now :)
/cookie for the first one to guess it :)

    Star Wars?

And as far as IP, something close to Left 4 Dead. I want a survival MMO : (

     THE COOKIE IS MINE!

Here is your cookie good sir.

Also a cookie for the Mad Max suggestion if done right could be awesome if done right with some good combat but also some car fighting too :) didn't cross my mind but a good one IMO.

damn you Greed...edged me out by 8 seconds...i hope you choke on that cookie.

A left for dead style MMO would rock so hard

    MMO wish list:

    -Changeable worlds
    -Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads

A company that goes completely all-in to make a full-blown historical MMO based on ancient antiquity that offers a bunch of factions based on city states, with the developers running the governence, the players being the inhabitants, merchants, and everything, and there are no NPC's. You conquest for your city state and see it prosper.

**Based on the versions of Greek and Rome portrayed in movies i suppose to make this reply relevent to the OP :P

*** Never mind, I just want to see a good historical MMO regardless that it isn't really an original IP.

I only saw the Sci-Fi Original Movie "Riverworld," never actually read the books.

As for Dune, that would be another awesome MMO but it would need to be FPS because these sci-fi MMOs with point-click shooting bore me (AO & TR immediately come to mind).

None. IP-based MMORPGs (and IP-based games in general, for that matter) suck. The licenses cost a ton of money, and then the people who supplied that ton of money wind up designing it instead of the designers.

Rifts and/or Planescape (edit: because someone reminded me below, Elric would also be amazing)

One man, a small pile of money, and the screwball idea of a DIY Indie MMORPG? Yep, that's him. ~sigh~

I know I'm gonna get flak for this, but Harry Potter.  Done my way, and with a fanbased company.  Basically a game set in the world of Harry Potter, but has nothing to do with Harry Potter.  So sort of like the wizarding world meets the real world and everyone plays as themselves only they all know magic.

    DUNE!!!

Dune would seriously be the best MMO I could ever imagine. I would want CCP to develop it because they are familiar with the political aspects of game play and lets face it Dune is pure politics, manipulation and filled with complicated nuances. There are also three distinct timeframes in the Dune universe--I do not include the time of the Titans which was before Omnius because there isn't much literature on it.

Butleran Jihad: You could help form and mold the Dune universe! Choose to be a machine and help destroy the free humans or perhaps even assist the Titans as a human brain in a machines body! Not your thing?! Well then perhaps you can help fight the machines and join the newly developed factions such as the Spacing Guild, Landsrad, CHOAM, or the Bene Gesserit.

Time of Muadib: Assert yourself as a devoted Freman warrior along side Paul Atreides and his Holy Jihad. Participate in CHOAM and become a master of trade alongside the Spacing Guild. Manipulate politics and breeding programs as a Bene Gesserit or manipulate genetics with science as a Bene Tleilax with their curious axlotl tanks! Plan battles and analyze details as a Mentat. So much to choose from.

Time After the Great Scattering: Explore the universe with fresh eyes just after the God Emperor has died. Encounter the recently discovered and feared Honored Matres. Help build industry and advance technology as a member of Ix and tote the line of the law while dabbling with computers! Perhaps even re-emerge from the depths of space as a thinking machine intent on finishing off the race of man.

I mean...Dune is the ultimate SciFi IP out there. It's so rich with history and would honestly be the ultimate sandbox. It has politics, wars, sex, drugs, singing (Gurney you 'ol dog you), and exploration. Not only could you have my first born but you could have my left nut too! ;)

Cyberpunk 2020 by R. Talsorian games.

It's almost like Shadowrun but without any of the fantasy aspects.  Fun times.

It's gotten to the point where some MMOs have been reduced to little more than success dispensers. Don't think. Don't challenge yourself. Do as little as possible... but still be rewarded for it. Yeah.. *that's* fun.

I think I should like to see Micheal Moorecocks Elric of Melnibone or maybe even Elfquest. Shadowrun would be awesome but not at all like that last piece of drek that came out.....bleh! Oh and that leads to one more. It would be for all you PvPer's out there.....Judge dread. Think about it you have criminals versus the judges. As criminals you could kidnap people and hold up in a building and then there qwould be a call go out over the judges radios about a situation and they would have to storm the building. Or you could just go into a convienience store and start shooting it up and wait for the judges to show  up and have you budies jump out from the allyways and ambush em. Or someone could tip off the criminals that there is a few judges @ the local donut shop and they could come in one by one and then all of the sudden....BOOM! chaos erupts.  Thats just a recipie for total mayhem and fun. not to mention the mutants and other cities.  unfortunatly I think Blizzard would be the BEST for that. You would need a cartoony style.

Terry Brooks' Shannara universe before all the bad stuff that ruined it.

    Eeew.

Scan the used book stores, my friend. It's worth the effort.

I think the IP aspect is severely overrated. It worked for LotRO but it hasn't worked for much else. The first Star Wars MMO didn't work out so well, and neither will this next one. Eve is a success but STO won't be. But look at the big successes throughout MMO histroy. UO was just a continuation of the Ultima series really, but I guess people could lump that in with the IPs. Everquest was brand new and did very well in it's time. Asheron's Call was brand new and did very well in it's time. WoW once again was basically just a continuation of the Warcraft series so I don't consider it an IP like others but I know some would.

Really if you look at all the games based off of IPs, that weren't video games to begin with, you don't see much success. But it seems to be what all the companies are focused on. Maybe they should all look at how well the Matrix game worked out.

But if there had to be another IP I would want something Mech related. It's an untapped field in MMOs. Customizing and building mechs and bases with research and AI defenses. It would be pretty sweet. But that could easily be done without an IP as well.

I think The Chronicles of Riddick MMO would be pretty good.

The folks saying that an exstablished IP makes for an inferior game have a good point. We're really just dreaming here, and ignoring the downside of the licensing costs.

Still, though, Dune has the potential to truly kick-ass. It would almost certainly be dumbed-down for the children to play, sadly.

I'd go along with some of the folks here and suggest that a good PnP RPG system would lead to a better game in the real world.

Problem is people develop exisiting IP's for several reasons, and most of those reasons are just excuses to make poor games. But really IP's are aquired for one of 2 main reasons, in general.

    1) Establish audience .... why have a good game when there's gonna be 100's of thousands of people already salivaing to play. Although there are exceptions to this rule let me just say D&D, LotrO, SWG

    2) Fanboi Dev's ... these tend to be better games, but even so one persons memories of an IP arn't the same as other peoples, i mean look at AoC.

There are other lesser reasons for buying into an exisiting IP, but what the original IP is makes a difference. I mean a movie IP is very different from a PnP IP. Each type of IP come with their own set of 'cannon lore' be it how the game should work, or how the world should look like.

But in general i agree, taking an established IP and making it into a game generally (65.32% of the time for you statisticians) results in a poor game.

FYI - this cartoon has been out on DVD for some time. I downloaded it months ago off a Torrent site. And.... it was fucking abysmal. I mean... like all kinds of awful. The story was butchered, the animation was terrible, and on top of that they used a weird mix of animation and CGI that completely sucked.

I'd love a Dragonlance game, but I'm not sure if it'd make a good MMO based on all the recent MMO disasters.

I'd LOVE to see a Rifts mmo - done right. You could have a character creator as vast as the CoX / Champions creator, because literally anything is possible in Rifts. Wanna play a vampire? Fine. A gargoyle? Fine. A mech-pilot? Fine. A cyborg? Fine. A dragon? Fine.

    You get the point.

No godless person can comprehend those minute distinctions
in doctrine that provide true believers excuse for mayhem.
