actually I was not trying to trolling at all. it was a question to see if other people shared the same sentiments as I did about the game or if i have just lost my attraction to mmo's in general.
There are some neat points in the game, and i am not trying to solo/grind the entire way. I was grouped for the first 20 levels doing campaign quests (this is a response to someone else's post) and pretty much ran out of immersive quests to do for leveling/enjoyment purposes.
No...see you DONT get it. Using comparisons is RETARDED. Yes Lineage 2 has an INSANE amount of grinding (they actually lowered it tons, not nearly as bad anymore)...but it does NOT change that Aion is a grinder. The point of the thread is saying is its a big ol grinder, and it is. Hey i played Warhammer and i didn't enjoy it's grind, played WoW and kind enjoyed it's grind, played L2 and kind of enjoyed it's grind, played RFO and kind of enjoyed it's grind.
See we can all say that we either enjoyed or not whatever grind in whatever MMO we play.
So this is what the mmorpg population has become: When you're not at the cap level before week 1 ends it's a "Super grinder". What happened to the days where people were interested in playing an mmo longer than 1 month?
The game has been released for 2 days now and you're already level 22 out of a cap level of 50. Sorry, what grind? Oh because you have to do quests that involve go kill XX it makes it an asian grinder? So by that criteria, World of Warcraft, Everquest 2 and Lord of the Rings Online are also Asian grinders?
I agree. A lot of people complain non-stop because they were expecting something absolutely revolutionary I guess and that wasn't delivered. Or just because its made by an Asian company that it's automatically an asian grinder. I dunno, people just won't stop bitching at a perfectly decent MMO. Probably, at least in my opinion, one of the best to be released recently. Long story short, every word you said was correct.
Wow - You guys amaze me. Every single game ever produced in the HISTORY of games has a grind. Every single one from Space Invaders to Aion. Weather it's grinding levels, doing quests, killing mobs you have to GRIND your way to the end or goal of the game.
The only way there will not be a grind is if you buy a game, install it, lauch it and login at max level with everything in the game already complete. What do you think the point is in playing games? To play! And to play any game is to grind your way through it.
So in the future, don't complain about a grind, just state that you don't like the game because the leveling is so slow or something. To say you don't like the grind is just stupid to me.
Altho I hate grinding... I must say that now it's a blessing! So many complete idiots and WoW kiddies have overrun the servers at the moment. At least all these idiots will hit a brick wall soon, start crying and go away within a month. So for now, the level20+ grind is a blessing!

ok i have to call BS on this.... i checked the servers on the aion homepage for live stats, and nobody is over lvl 30 in the game yet..... you are a liar.... stop trying to impress people.

wow ruined the MMO community by making the game too easy. there is no feeling of accomplishment in WOW anymore. not even when you down a new boss. everything is just too easy now, and you get everything too quickly. I have played aion since open of head start MODERATELY (not even close to hard core) and im already almost lvl 19.... there is no grind folks, it is all in your head. it took me probably 3-4 months to hit 60 on WOW when it was first released. the lvling is definitely going faster in Aion than WOW as far as i remember. Im sorry that all of you are spoiled WOWtards and cant handle games that take more than a few days to reach max lvl now.... screw blizzard and WOTLK, they have ruined everything.
Well... I made the mistake of pre-ordering this game. It sounded fun, looked fun, was fun.... for the first 20 levels. Now at lvl 22 I find myself stuck doing repeatable mob kill quests (capped out at 100 repeats and trust me, there are a ton of these quests and the reward is only 3x the amount of ex as one mob). I had fun pre-20 but i mean seriously, hitting super grind mode after lvl 20? thats freaking ridiculous. I have played my share of grinders, Lineage, L2, hell i even play rappelz from time to time, and thats just a constant grind, but it is somewhat enjoyable. this game pretty much seems like a harder asian version of WoW with different graphics and the LIMITED ability to fly. most areas are no fly zones, the fly time is limited. (i know i am only lvl 22 right now but i can only fly for around1-2 minutes at max and if i am not on the ground by the time my wings pop off i take a serious hit, if you fall for a certain amount of time (even if you hit nothing) you also die. Anyone else sharing the same feelings I have?
1° We told you sooo
2° fanboys : " you play alone/you play too much/you're a grinder /you never read the quests"
3° A lot of people had the same feelings in the CB. you're not alone.
You want some ice for that...BURRNNNNN Gw hater? On subject though, yes it is a polished asian grinder, anyone that disagrees is just blinded by NEW game syndrome.
Have you played Lineage 2? Level to the max level there and come back to tell me that AION is an Asian grinder!
AION lvl cap can be reached pretty fast its compareable to WoW on that matter. Typical ASIAN grinders take YEARS to reach the cap not a couple of months of casual gaming.
So comparing to ANOTHER slow grinding NCsoft game makes this game have NO grind? That makes sense....Comparisons just never work when you are trying to make a legitimate argument
You just dont get it, do you?
Lets me say it one more time:
Asian grinders take YEARS of hardcore grinding to reach the cap.
Western MMOs take a few months to reach the cap with grinding concealed by quests.
Aion takes a few months to reach the cap.
The thing that asian mmos are infamous for is that you need to kill an increadible amount of mobs to se your xp bar go up for about 5%. Thats not the case with Aion.
Western MMOs include KILLING so yeah its grindy too, but you level up often and reach the cap in a few months. And thats happening with AION.
Both western and asian MMOs have grind! Get over it!
No...see you DONT get it.
Using comparisons is RETARDED. Yes Lineage 2 has an INSANE amount of grinding (they actually lowered it tons, not nearly as bad anymore)...but it does NOT change that Aion is a grinder. Anyone that has followed this site for a long time knows full well how this shit works. People are jonsin' for the next big fucking thing so they hype the shit out of it, claim its the next big thing (see WAR, AOC, etc..) and 3-6 months from now those same people will be here singing a totally different tune. The addictive side of MMO gaming is like any other addiction and gamers are rabid here. The only good thing that Aion has going for it is graphics. However, graphics alone do not make up for shallow, craptastic game play. That's my opinion which by the way means as much as any one else's; it's just an opinion.
Funny thing to your "story" is that most people that like the appearance of the game end up staying to the game, most of the hype comes from the haters, believe it or not.
The point though is he is correct, that's usually what happens on this site in particular or do you disagree?
Every new game that looks pretty and isn't by some indie developer gets hailed as all that and a 'WoW killer' (I mean seriously, why don't we just rename the site 'anti-wow.com'). Then 6 months later it doesn't turn out to be all that for a variety of reasons and the cycle continues. I'm not even talking about Aion in particular, just new games in general on this site.
Every new game will have a vocal minority claiming it to be a WoW killer, they're morons though. And it's not just "this" site, you can go to pretty much any gaming site and see WoW killer being thrown around. All most as bad as people that shout "WoW clone" at everything to release to, so it evens out in stupidity on both sides.
So this is what the mmorpg population has become: When you're not at the cap level before week 1 ends it's a "Super grinder". What happened to the days where people were interested in playing an mmo longer than 1 month?

When EQ came out......../played= 4000+ hours to lvl 60, WOW = /played= 450+ hours to lvl 60. AOC = 250+ hours to lvl cap.
So what are people looking for?
..its a guideline, not a rule, as players we must remember: Its a Game.
Yep, I made the same mistake and pre-ordered Aion. This game (in my opinion) is a really polished Korean grind. Much as I hate to say it, this game (in my opinion) is mediocre at best, and a boring grindfest at worst with a very limited combat system. The grind (in my opinion) is made longer and more tedious by the simplicity of the combat. I will say that (in my opinion) the character customization and graphic detail is polished nicely enough to get people to buy the game and be enchanted with the looks. After the infatuation phase, this game is really (in my opinion) too simple for lasting appeal.

450+ hours to level 60? I played at release and as horrible as I was I hadn't taken anywhere near that amount of time (maybe 1/3rd of that tops).
I 'd have to say the same about AoC as well.
I don't mean to disparage your manner of playing, but I think it's kind of fallacious to state such ridiculously long play times; I mean maybe if you had afked 80% of the time, or had difficulty running around trees...
This is a sequence of characters intended to produce some profound mental effect, but it has failed.

Well op a polished free 2 play grind yes.. its just to easy.. no real replay to it at all.. man 1y later and still only ONE starting area.. TINY maps.. .you cant get lost .. lol try.. theres a path .. always showing you where to go.. always know where the quest is.. how to finish it.. its like it was made for young people.. I dont mean that bad in any way.. but its just to kiddish.. MAN getting to cap is FAST.. theres just that gind as you get to the top..

Actually it's not far fetched. Some people don't go from quest to quest. When you explore a game for the first time (WoW released with a huge world) you can take hours not really advancing . So who are you to judge.
Either way, Aion is hardly a grind. Aion is a Lamborghini compared to EQ's 1986 Honda civic with 3 wheels and no engine.
The fact that the OP almost reached the midway point in just a day or so of play is testamount to how ungrindy Aion is.
I'm sure AIon, like all MMO's, have some slow levels. But again it's all relative.
Actually it's not far fetched. Some people don't go from quest to quest. When you explore a game for the first time (WoW released with a huge world) you can take hours not really advancing . So who are you to judge.
Who are you to judge my judgment? Leveling was always ridiculously easy in WoW to the degree that you would have had to keep your character at a low level intentionally for a long time in order to get those kinds of hours. The point is, however, that the thread was about time for reaching maximum lvl with ordinary play, not how many years it would take you to hit maximum level with arbitrary key presses.
I could spend 600 hours hitting max level in WoW while using 100 to hit max level in EQ2; if you're not trying to do the same thing in both games, then the comparison is really moot.
This is a sequence of characters intended to produce some profound mental effect, but it has failed.

So what do you suggest? they had to do an expansion on the other version while it still had to come out in EU and NA?
C’mon seriously give them some time they will surely add more maps.

Well, this is the situation that I expected on playing the game. Early quest-based game leading rapidly into grinding. It wasn't a game developed for the Western market, so what can one expect, you may hate it, but at Least Blizzard are primarily developing WoW with European and North American players game play tastes in mind.

First day and you are already Lv22? you really played Lin2?
Lv22 you can do quest in other town, (2 town you can do) I forgot the name but you will know. BTW why not you join a guild and help some of your guildmate.

LOL!
Have you even bothered to follow game development and all the developer QA's and videos? Did you watch the latest NCSoft dev video from last weekend?
If they didn't took the Western Market in mind during Aion development, then:
1. There wouldn't be any quests in the game at all. And leveling would have been at least twice as slow.
2. There wouldn't be any new voice overs (altho some really horrible done lol).
3. There wouldn't be all these new westernised face options within the character creator.
I keep reading "YOU CAN'T USE COMPARISONS, NOOB. THAT'S RETARDED". No. Okay? No. All you Aion haters (and no, I don't play the game. Hell, I havn't even been on the website or looked at any videos.) are making a comparison as well. Though you may not be listing the actual game or ideal of MMORPGs you're comparing it to, you're still comparing it.
Stop being such hypocrites and learn to deal with it. Why feel the need to come on here and bash a game if you know other people are enjoying it? Honestly. Not everybody is as spoiled as you. I'm sure Aion will end up with a fair amount of people playing it by the sounds, since there are very few of these "I HATE THIS GAME QQ" threads as compared to other recent launches. Once people start hitting cap if the PvP is good and balanced, I may give it a try myself.
And, honestly? Level 22 out of 50 in 2 days? How the fuck is that a grinder? You'll be max by the end of 2 or 3 weeks. That's a fraction of the time other games take.
Well I only played it for about 3 days so keep in mind that is where my review of it is comeing from, I played when it was in open beta like two weeks ago but I did feel like it was a high quality asian grinder. It seemed entertaining for the first day and then just got kind of old for me. I'm sure it is a blast when you get into some hardcore PvP and maybe later on when more and more people besides the devout Aion followers start saying that the asian grind feeling goes away and once I see that it isnt just another flavor of the month MMORPG then I might get into it. After playing WAR I'm going to stay away from playing MMOs at launch and wait until more and more solid reviews come out about a game.

Generic quests, some lag, lvl based boring system, linier . I think it is a big streatch to say this is not a grind fest ala wow or lotro (at least that has lore) dull crafting etc

I agree, with the above.
Although the Legion im in most players are over 30+ so tend to talk on vent and not look at chat channels.
When you get to 25 and over thats when your start using your wings more, the whole Abyss is built for flying not the starter zones.

Cheers
Grinding is not hard at all. Is aion a generic asian mmo? Yep.
