Aion is a WoW clone with some changes to make it "unique" and "newer" graphics. Anyone who thinks differently is fooling themselves.
On top of that WoW is the better game hands down. Aion will be around, but it won't come close to WoW by a LONG shot
Agreed. As an example, I actually saw Aion in a store this evening, although its amazing I was able to notice it. I was rather interested in seeing the game box on shelves, since I bought mine off Steam. So I moved aside the cardboard display for HDMI cables that was in front of the 5 little Aion boxes on the far left of the bottom shelf, and took a look. Nice looking box, metal, sorta reminded me of the deluxe X360 and Wii games I've seen. Reached back around the display, tossed it back on the bottom shelf, and glanced up at the entire row of Blizzard games, lining up the top shelf, right at eye level, and saw the reality of the situation for what it is.
Subconsciously, I think whomever stocked the shelves knew the same thing, and definitely knew where Aion belongs.
I bought the game at Best Buy. AION eye-level - wow bottom shelf. Funny how my experience was completely different then yours. I bet one of us is lying.
I'd say you were lying, were I not more amazed that you actually left your basement. Kudos on seeing the outside world.
No dude, its cool. We all believe you. We all KNOW that stores stock brand new merchandise that are expected to move more then its fair share of units on the bottom shelf. They would rather put games that have been out for a few years that sell for $19.99 where they can grab the shoppers attention. Oh and ya, I was born yesterday -- Forgot to mention that as well.
Simple solution to the problem...Play Elyos ...all the WOW players are playing Asmodian especially on West coast servers. I have made chars on several servers with both factions and every time it's the same thing. Elyos is where the mature players seem to go. Everyone who has played WOW are evil minded and corrupt little asshats ...They all play Asmodian!

I play Elyos -- and I have seen ALOT of ex-wow players. Many are in my legion ex-wow. AION will not kill wow, but it has a chance to take a portion of its players away permanently.

It hasn't been so bad on my server (Ariel) .. i mean it has.. but not as bad as you would expect considering its launch week... ever mmo is going to be compared to WoW.. even Champion's Online was in the chats... *shrug*
I dont see any problems and I enjoy AION. Thats why I play AION and dont listen to people like you. In other words you mean nothing to people like me who enjoy AION. Get it ?

So which is it? You can't have both. You can't be unsure their is a god or gods and yet entirely disbelieve in their existence.

the chat wont go away as long as AION does well and wow fanboys feel threatened that it will in someway steal players away from their real-life fantasy world they live in.

The term "Wow clone" is so stupid. Lets be real for a moment. Just because Aion has components that are similar to WOW does't make it a clone. Me and you problay have 2 eyes and 2 arm but we are not clones. The fact is some fundemental thinks in the game are a standard in the industry just like any other industry.
I think the point of this forum is to say that if you are playing AIon please just play it and enjoy the game. Most people don't want to hear about the comparison in the game. I don't see why that is hard to understand.
You have no facts, you just spew crap out of your pie hole. The fact is people have gotten used to playing the same game for years but there are other who want to try a new game. Realistically why would a launch of one game effect WOW's numbers? Why don't you learn a little more about the indusrtry before making remarks like that. Why are you hating so hard? Do you feel insecure about your games future? There are 11M people playing WOW it will be a long while before you have to worry about WOW. Welcome to the new world of MMOs where millions of noobs who have never touched a real MMORPG sing WoW's praises as the creator of all RPG mechanics that have been used in MMOs since 1998. WoW is the only MMO I can say without any doubt in my mind, that it did absolutely NOTHING new. Not a single game mechanics was innovated or created. All WoW is, is a kid friendly cut down version of EverQuest. But, because they targetted people who don't play MMOs, it was a raving success, and now the rest of the industry suffers under the weight of its fanboys.
Whats a real MMO then? No WoW didnt do anything new......but then neither do most MMOs. Most of them seem to follow the same formulae and build on it. WoW just followed that formulae very well......hence its popularity.
WoW is a kid friendly cut-down version of EQ? Hardly. It simply took all the mindless mob grinding and dressed it up with quests and little stories to help disguise the repetitive gameplay. I have fond memories of playing the original EQ but if I went back to it now I'm pretty sure I would find it extremely boring. Even EQ's sequel followed exactly the same path as WoW. Kids were and still are quite capable of playing the original EQ. It wasnt that complicated ya know. I think you probably just have an inflated view of "the good old days".
Oh and the industry isnt "suffering under the weight of its fanboys". Its making shit loads of money out of them.
Every MMO out there has brought something new to the table and HAS NOT BEEN A WoW CLONE...
every mmo has the same elements, listed earlier in this forum and am not going to list them again, WoW just has nothing to make it different or unique the discription of an MMO is WoW if you take everythign WoW has that is the discription of an MMO...
here are examples of things that make MMO's different and unique an new...
AoC(2008)- Pushed MMO Graphics and inovative Battle system.
CoH(2004)- Brought the idea of Super Heroes to the MMO world.
DDO(2006)- the private instance questing system with a central social area.
EQ&EQ2- pushed MMO's to a new Level and Created a new standard in 1999, 5 years before world of warcrafts release in 2004
FFXI(2003)- Sub jobbing and swithcing jobs on the fly.
FLYFF(2005)- F2P Item shop Model inovation.
Guild Wars(2005)- PVP driven game with a F2P Model.
LoTRO(2007)- MMO based off a beloved book.
Vangaurd(2007)- Inovative crafting System and Parley card battle system... and a million different glitches...
WoW(2004)- Huge ad Budget which made millions of Non-gamers(AKA noobs) join the MMO world... other then that not much inovation there...
and finally Aion(2009)- with the new World Style Lore and Fantasy based Weapons and Armour. even the wings has been done before with Perfect world.
i know i didnt list all the MMO's and their key features that set them apart and what made them great but these are examples of things that have made the MMO world what it is today and why WoW did not Set the Bar or do anything other then make MMO's Main stream which is not an easy thing to do when 10 years ago geeks were the minority the ones getting picked on at school, now we rule the world.

This thread is funny, an AION lover protesting against WOW lovers.... that is Gipsies complaining about Chavs !!!!!!!
The issue is that [3. Find Group] channel is the only server-wide one and gets used for gab. They need a [Eylos/Azmo] chat that people can use so that everyone else can just mute it. The retard factor is high, but since there is no fixing that you can only find ways to divert pressure (as most of it is just hot air).
If you ask me, this common mentality known as "wowtard" being picked up is a byproduct of a person's ability to pick up traits from "friends". When these friends are faceless strangers and using the communication tool that is the internet, you start to see everyone connecting and picking up traits - and therefore the vast majority is now the same boring, annoying and childish person. The Tutty thing is over with, and if I have to hear "hurrrrr" one more time, from anybody (and this goes on in other MMO's too), I swear...

I took out what I disagree with but as for what I quoted I have to agree. The whole thing is so getting so beaten to death anymore it isn't even funny. Between the constant need to compare the two games and the utter lack of respect directed towards others or bringing up the same old, overused "jokes" over and over again is so annoying.
I really wish this game had two additional chat channels in it. One should be for legions to spam their adverts in so it doesn't clog up the finding group channel, and the other should be for spam where people can argue with each other to their hearts content about whatever floats their boat. Make them both global channels as well that way people don't have to tune out everyone like they do now if they don't want to deal with all the garbage that goes on in these channels now.
I'm all for chat channels but it seems to be getting worse and worse in mmos far as what goes on in these channels. The companies don't help matters any either because they really do a pisspoor job having gms oversee the channels until it gets out of hand to a point they have to intervene due to how many complaints they receive.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

I played WoW for 3 years and I thought the community was fine, maybe it's the aion community your having a problem with. From what I see on this forum and in aion beta is that aion has a bad community when compared to WoW community because it''s all the ppl who are jealous of WoW's success.
