Seriously 45 minutes is like buying season tickets to the Ravens and leaving before the first half of the preseason game. WAY to short a time to even get familiar with the mechanics let alone the game.
Also I think despite best intentions or wants the themepark mentality has infected everyone playing MMO's the past 4 years. The number of folks I see who intially disliked the game and who have grown to like or love it with more playtime leads me to this conclusian. Its a hybrid sandbox and won't give you much if anything in a hours play, its mean't to go the long haul.
I've been following FE for quite some time and after beta I had decided to wait until the reviews came out before paying for the game. Only a couple reviews have come out and so far nothing all that enticing. Having said that, this thread alone is enough to stop me from jumping in at this point. No, it's not because of what the OP said but rather how the "supportive" community has responded. I honestly believe that the community is the games worst enemy as the majority of those posting against the OPs statements have had nothing but negative, ugly things to say in response.

Mature player base, and no apparent gold farmers. I was in a beginning city..(embro something) and hit an invisible wall riding my mount. People were up on this invisible platform. I was also able to walk up onto it. No idea what it was. People rode past me on invisible mounts. I rubberbanded quite a few times. And finally...there was plenty of chat in the Help channel, but not ONE player would say hi back to me in local chat which included a chat bubble. Everyone was in a hurry to level up. Tell me; is socializing and being friendly a bygone part of an mmo?
Not the game for me. This is my 2nd 50 dollar game to be taken off my system in less than 4 days. I'd hate to return to WoW and deal with the immaturity just to find people to talk and group with.
Your posts sounds about like my original impression of FE. I slammed this game hard after the first time I tried it. But, I'm a stubborn ol' goat and don't like dropping $50 without giving something more than an hour of my time. I can say this, the graphics issues you are having are both FE and your fault. I spent some time looking over the official forums because I was appalled at the graphics in the game. After a few tweaks to some graphics card settings and in game settings I stopped having problems with stuff disappearing and horrible lag. The game isn't optimized yet and reminds me a lot of AoC in that way.
The community in the game is one of my favorite parts about FE, and I didn't appreciate it the first time around. As someone said earlier, most chatting goes on in the help channel and the region chats. It's been my experience so far that the community is fun and very helpful. Of course, you have some that are douchebags but what game doesn't have those?
Sorry that you didn't like the game much, and in the end nobody can tell you what is or is not for you. I just remember having your same reaction and then giving it more time and being glad I hadn't quit so soon.

You're getting upset/annoyed over people not responding to you wtihin 45 mins. of gameplay? From a female gamer to another female gamer, that makes me laugh. You also seem to be taking things too personally and backlash at any bit of criticism from anyone, but that's another story
As for your issues, at least give it another shot. Get your drivers updated and see if there are any remaining issues. You might as well considering you paid the $50 for it. if you had played in beta or at least done some research on the game before taking a risky leap, you would've known that it wasn't all that optimized and still has performance problems. Hell, that's why I'm not playing it.
Lastly, why return to a game that you wanted to quit in the first place? Doesn't seem logical to me at all. There are plenty of games out there with people to play with if you give them a chance (yeah, not 45 mins)

Sure, if you discount the first reply, the one above mine, and the majority in-between. This isn't anything new either. Over the past 3 weeks I have read more poster bashing than anything else. Why is it that anytime someone posts anything negative about FE the majority of posts that follow have to personally attack the OP? Maybe it's just here and not on the official boards. Maybe I'm just blind or have had too high of expectations. Either way, in my opinion, it's becoming very unsafe to post anything that contradicts those that absolutely love this game.
I was hoping for more from the game before it was released but I can wait for the improvements to see how it fairs down the road. In the meantime, it would have been nice if the community was a bit more supportive as opposed to defensive since that's something that is unlikely to change over time.
The community is saying for the most part 45 minutes isnt enough time to give a accurate judgement on a shallow cheerleader game like Aion, let alone a hybrid sandbox with depth like FE.
Still to each thier own. I used to say its not for everyone, but I've seen too many people do complete 180's on this game after initial bad reviews to really beleive it. It takes time, but almost everyone seems to turn around.

To the OP,i lasted about 9 days, but i really only login about 5 of those 9.It had nothing to do with chat, because i have had so many chat boxes piss me off in other games ,i nearly quit in an instant,so this time,i chose to remove it from my view.
The problem for me is,i really wanted a good crafting game, but this game does crafting like EVE does skills, and that is not a good thing.I don't want anything auto done and i don't want anything close to a spread sheet game.
There is literally no mechanics in crafting,so if the devs ever read this ..take note,i want a game inside the game ,not just a data base. The harvesting/gathering should be or needs to be a lot more realistic,it has the feel of a an older console game using cheap nodes.Everything is a node in the game, the things you cannot interact with are all decals, this is the area that gives the game a boring feel/look.I remember many years ago playing UO and it felt like anything i could see in the game,i could use or pick up.Now several years later we have a game that does less with more PC power.
Combat as many say is clunky,it is because nothing is fluent,it has a sort of unrealistic movement to it.The world is VERY dead, the small file size of the game shows this,as there is just not enough effort put into the game.
I cannot even say it is a good start to a game, because like i said both crafting and combat would need complete over hauls to satisfy me.The game is what it is, a smallish developer with a smallish effort,an average game at best. There is something for everyone though and i know there will be people that like this laid back type of game, but i am not one of them.
On a final note, this game file should easily be in the 7+ GB,my opinion closer to10GB range to have the fullness and content i expect. As it is 744 mb is no where near the content you need in a game like this.It has the feel of a game that only went part way in carrying out its design.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

just thought i would correct something for you the game file is 5.5 gigabyte . the 744 is probobly the original file you down load to start patching

I guess you must have ignored most of the posts then because aside from my admittedly, hostile-ish post and around maybe 8 or 9 other posts (including three hostile posts from the OP herself), the majority of the responses haven't been bad at all. In fact, many people were quite sympathetic to the OP and even offered helpful suggestions and friendly advice.
But if you want to base an entire community (and your decision to try the game) on a few less-than-friendly posters, it's your call. I've played mmos for 10 years and I can safely say that from my experience, FE is shaping up to have one of the best communities I've seen in a long, long time. I'll admit that I personally get a bit ill-tempered from time to time, but it's usually for good reason.

Well, if this is true, than you are certainly not playing any MMO at all.
The FE boards have probably the most positive attitude around. Check other games's boards...

It's probably one of the best communities I've seen. You need to do more homework.

Somehow I have a feeling your idea of a quality crafting system would be both tedious and needlessly time consuming. If you want some awesome "realistic" crafting there is always Aion... where you are anchored to a workshop for endless hours slamming your head into a workbench and doing little else. Or Darkfall, where you want to slit your wrists from the absolute irritation and tedium.
You guys are all right. I must have mistook the claims that the OP is lying, claiming BS, calling her ridiculous and a hypocrite as negative posts. Not to mention how certain posters love to claim ignorance on the part of anyone they don't agree with. My bad.
Granted, there are many FE fans that were / are trying to be helpful and understanding...it's the other half that needs to keep quite for the betterment of the entire community. When someone doesn't like a "game" there's no need to get personal about it. Either try to help or ignore.
I've been around plenty of MMO forums, still active on several and have moderated a couple as well. I have seen some of the worst and some of the best. Right now, on this particular site, I'm truly on the fence about this one. Since I'm not looking to high-jack this thread or start a fight with anyone this will be my last post on the subject. I'm nearly sorry that I even bothered to bring it up.

You are talking about the MMORPG.com community, right?

You have the same issues I do with the game, I played since mid July in beta and loved the game. After two weeks after the pre-launch I could not stand the boring crafting system. Its a nice idea in theory, but really thats all I want to do in the game and found myself logging of after I queued up a few hours of crafting items, only to log in with an hour left to go get more stuff to craft. I found combat to be quite boring myself regardless of melee or ranged.
@OP..seriously 45 minutes? It takes me that long to figure out hardware issues if any, proper game settings, and to even remotely figure out what I am doing. In a game that throws you in like FE you made it through the tutorial in roughly 15-25min, and spent less than 30minutes in the game. You didn't even have a chance to play it, you bought it assuming it would wow you over so you could find a new game. If failed from the moment you stepped in an did your first mission. You probably could not figure out how to craft the bandages, how to put actions on your toolbars and said screw this(assuming you figured out how to swap between your weapons) If you do not want to spend a few hours in a game, it will automatically suck.
I was umm..15ish when Baldur's Gate(not the second) came out and if I gave it a 45 minute go I would of said it sucked and moved on missing a great game. If your going to waste the money waste it at least proving to yourself the game blows by a fair chance.

And it's any different in any other forum? There are always going to be those that defend the game they're enjoying, especially when it's attacked by someone who plays it 45 minutes, yet feels they know enough about the game to start slamming it. The game may not have been for her, I can understand that, but posts like this usually have an "agenda" behind them.
The "claiming BS" wasn't even directed at the OP and the guy calling her a hypocrite wasn't even the one who started the fight, but I guess that's what happens when you cherry pick through posts to try and prove a point. I've went through this entire thread and I'll say it again - the majority of the posters here have been friendly and helpful, which is much more than I can say for many other message boards, especially with a thread of this nature.
The "no need to get personal about it" comment sounds like something you should be telling the OP herself. If she had remained civil instead of writing things like "try again" when someone was simply trying to help her, then I bet this thread wouldn't have turned into what it is.

Ok, so you came to this topic, adding absolutely nothing to the original issue, offering no help whatsoever, but instead started to bash a larger group of people, who were naturally over-represented in the topic, while at the same time generalizing most of these people negatively, w/o more then 2 specific examples -both of them you brought up incorrectly. By doing this, you have also (partially) successfully derailed the topic.
Do you yourself see the pattern?
Yes, you should definitely be sorry for bringing up what you brought up, in the way you did.
Peace.

Perfectly true. I did call BS on the guy who claimed that the disappearing horse/wall textures are still normal in the game. The only thing I told the OP was just bringing up the idea of the possibility of outdated drivers.
BTW, I was thinking about writing the same reply to this guy too, but I think it's pointless, see my previous post.
The FE boards are by FAR amongst the most civilized, friendly and helpful communities on MMORPG boards, it is enough to run through a few posts here, and do the same with other game's forums. You find the same kind of personalities everywhere, but the ratio on the FE section favours the mature, laid back folks in a greater degree than in most of them.

The community in the game on the whole is actually quite good and very helpful. /shrug

Peace.
This sentence is false.
Ultima Online for a good player base
You are talking about the MMORPG.com community, right?
Yeah, pun intended.
I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.
"You have the right not to be killed"
