Change the people you play with. Those are the ones who rush to the 'endgame'. I have never gotten to any max level in any MMORPG I've played.

Apparently you get more out of Aion if you try not to rush to end cap, but that's because it's a long grind. At least that is the buzz, I haven't played it since the beta.
Unfortunately no...but....you dont have to rush to end game if you dont want to. Play games at your own pace.
(AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH raises plunger in salute to upcoming game Mass Effect 2)
All my opinions are just that..opinions. If you like my opinions..coolness.If you dont like my opinion....I really dont care. Playing: ESO, WOT, Smite, and Marvel Heroes
Personally the only time there is a need to keep pace or rush is in a forced group game and a limited player base. Otherwise the only clock you need to pay attention to is your own.
There seems to be a higher potential for 'puttering along in the journey' in Lord of the Rings Online than some other MMOs out there. While some players do 'rush to the end', there are a good number of folks who choose to amble their way there--because the game itself seems to allow for that to be a more viable (dare I say, "acceptable") choice than some other MMOs.

I've tried to play WoW like that, and what I find ends up happening.. is that in order to be in a guild.. you either have to find one thats ok with that.. or change guilds as you level.
Because since everyone else is rushing to end cap, you find yourself always behind the line of content and you literally miss everything.. because by the time you get to it.. its not being ran anymore...
for me it was like this..
1-50 found out BC was coming out.. I joined a guild, and they told me to hurry up and get 60 so I could raid..
I don't level fast.. so... I finally get to 60.. and I run MC twice. BC hits...
Everyone in my guild is 70 within the week.. I'm 63.. They all begin to start raiding Kara...
I hit 70, and everything in Kara is on farm, and they've moved onto the next instance, while I still need stuff from Kara.. they don't run it anymore and pug groups are worthless.
It stays like this all the way until when WOTLK comes out.. again.. people are 80 within the week... and already raiding the 80 dungeons. By the time I get to 80.. they've moved on..
See where I am going with this? I'm trying to find a game where I can "not rush" and still complete all the content.. Its obsolete in WoW by the time I get to it.

I've been playing Fallen Earth and have to say I've felt no nagging feeling to rush to level cap. It's pretty relaxed & enjoyable. I spend a lot of time exploring the world around me, crafting, etc. There is PvP, I haven't found myself participating in that so far. As far as raiding, to be honest I have no idea if there's raiding at all but I do know that there is reason to group at times, which can be fun.
All-in-all I really love the game so far. The Escapist may have more trial keys if you're interested.

It will take a while to download & install. Took about 3.5hr for me. I hear you can go through File Planet and it may be faster.
It is similar to Fallout3, but mainly because its a wasteland & there are rebel groups and such around. Don't judge the game by first impressions, it takes a little while to get used to the combat and such. Also, the first sector is a bit dreary as its close to Arizona and so there is a lot of desert. However, I hear that sector 2 and 3 have more grass & are brighter, maybe cheerier. :P
Also there is no "instancing" and the world around you is unbelievably large, so if you decide to stick with it, I recommend crafting up your second horse as quickly as possible. They eat less food and can go much farther then "Old Nag".

You will meet people who rush to the level cap in every game. Games that allow solo play may be the way to go, as you will not be forced to group. Grouping games on the other hand might turn you off then, especially because you cannot always avoid "rushers".

Yeah, this is one of those things that drives me nuts about WoW. I love the game but not having a side game or meta game besides the "endgame" aspect is why I take 4 month breaks after about a 2 month stint in the game.
You may appreciate Lord of the Rings Online a bit more. I find that you can take your time in that game, the community doesn't push you like it does in WoW to hit endgame and there is plenty of things to do on the journey to level cap.
yeah falled earth sounds like a good choice for you, i turned into a crafting whore in that game and barely exp/quest at all and had fun doing it. and i always HATED crafting in games even in the ones where crafting wasn't boring (eq2 and vanguard best crafting systems) but in Fallen Earth, the setting made it feel more about survival than just crafting some junk gear i'll soon out grow.

I've reduced my options down to two so far...
FFXI.. its the only fantasy based game I know of where content isn't obsolete after a few months.
I liked LOTRO.. but I already know whats going to happen, and that kind of killed it for me.
Fallenearth might actually be worth getting into. I'm still downloading, but maybe a change from the fantasy setting is a welcome one. Maybe I can picture myself in the movie "cyborg" and that will help with getting into it..lol

FFXI: The problem with this game at least from my experience is the fact that its hard to just "jump into". You really need to know people to get around because a lot of it is group based. Now I know that over the years they have changed a lot of the content to make it more "solo-friendly" but I've always had a hard time just jumping into it.
LotRO: Great game, gorgeous graphics, however, slightly too linear for my personal tastes. It doesn't have very good replay-ability because well once you've done it, the storyline isn't going to change for you the second time around and there really are no 'alternate' paths for you to take. It's pretty standard the direction you'll go each time.
Fallen Earth: Well I'm not sure what you look for in an MMO. Not a whole lot to be gathered from your OP however, I've already discussed with you some of the Fallen Earth points above and you're already downloading it. The good thing about the game for me is the ability to go off and do whatever I want to do. I'll do some missions, get some AP, kill some of the rebels and then craft if I want or I can go out and explore some buildings (apparently there is bonus AP to be gained for exploration too). There is PvP in Fallen Earth, I have yet to really run into any of it but it does exist.
A lot of people complain about the graphics in the game but I think they're quite decent. They maybe aren't what you would expect from a 2009/10 MMO but they're good if your PC can afford to have you turn them up all the way (although some people have said they have no problem with them on low). The character customization is good (except you can't change body shape).
I've been bored with WoW for a while and have been floundering a lot lately looking for a new MMO. I usually go with the more fantasy-esque genres. However there was a trial code being given away over at The Escapist so I figured, "Oh what the hell, I'm bored anyway," and I have yet to regret my decision for downloading it.
I even took a two day non-playing evaluation period to decide whether I wanted to keep pursuing it (I have two other MMO's already subbed and to play FE it will cost me another $50 to purchase) so I wanted to be sure that I still wanted to play after 'weaning' myself off it for two days. Sure enough it kept nagging at my brain and so far I can say I've not enjoyed an MMO this much in a long while.
I apologize for the wall of text, that so was not my intention at the beginning of this post.
Yeah Eve is another good one in terms of gameplay. I've enjoyed the little bit that I've played of it. My one major qualm with it is the fact that my "character" is a spaceship so I have a bit of a hard time getting over that part, personally.
Gamers inherintly want to win, it's what comes with the gamer mindset.
In an MMO winning is hitting the end and doing so as fast as you can, so every MMO will have a majority of players doing this. Same mentality that makes gamers keep buying $60 console games and beating them in 2 days, they just want to win.
The MMO players who got into the genre for more of the social aspect and not from being a heavy gamer before hand tend to play through more slowly and experience all the content.
Darkfall. I honestly believe it is the mmorpg currently out there.
I wanted desperately to like that game because I really love the whole sandbox idea of gaming. However, because I got my butt kicked on a normal basis because I decided to go Melee over Casting it just kind of drove me nuts.
Plus I prefer either full 3rd person or full 1st person. When I found out it was a 1st person game I was excited, but then I found out that melee was 3rd and was slightly disappointed.
It's not a bad game though if you enjoy PvP, I just personally prefer PvE more then PvP.
The graphics are decent (character models could use some love), exploration is huge and there is some form of crafting. Plus this next 'expansion' looks pretty good.
Don't have the "rush to endcap and raid" mentality?
I cannot seem to find one so far that isn't thats active.
I have played all my MMO's this way. While I was always concerned about getting the good gear and such, I took my time and got the good stuff for my level. Take EQ for example. I played it for years and I never rushed to level. I know it took a long time to level in EQ but I would take my time to do things and explore and enjoy my experience. Furthermore, when I played WoW, I still explored, ran instances for good armour, camped for drops etc.... I wanted to enjoy the game to the fullest. I had friends that rushed to the top and though we were lvl 20 together, I was lvl 35 and they were raiding endgame.
The point is that if you want to rush through a game, it is possible but it if you dont, that is also possible. Aside from the design of the game, you can create your own playstyle.
You can skip all the of quest hubs if favor of just killing mobs to level. This can help increase you experience with the game. I found that in most modern MMO's that the quest hubs are what make us level so fast and without them, it can be brutally slow. Therefore; if you do like 60% of the given quests at a camp and then just fight for the rest of you experience, you get a much better experience.
A great method of helping experience along with slowing leveling is to fight all the way back in a fort and finish my quest and then fight all the way back out even though I dont have a quest that asks me to.
