I'm getting the impression they want people to buy multiple copies from multiple locations to get multiple rewards but only really use one account... ....
The whole preorder scheme is more complicated than what the average MMO player can fathom these days
They're setting themselves up for a lot of hurt feelings, disappointments and angry customers because whatever nice preorder bonus they so desperately desire isn't available in their country.
Not to mention that this preorder deal sets off all my "this is gonna suck" alarms. Of course I hope to be utterly wrong in this case because I really do want an MMO that can do the Star Trek IP some justice, and give me something to waste (in a good way) countless of hours on. But sadly... the past has taught me that a bigger preorder deal usually means a bigger disappointment when you realize is was just a desperate attempt to sell as many boxes as possible, before people figure out just how buggy and unfinished the product is.
But as I said... I hope to be wrong.
I'm a big ol' fluffy carewolf. Be afraid. Be very afraid.
I saw the pre-order tribble deal at best buy weeks ago and was tempted to do it just because of that but held off, I didn't even know that there would be several pre order options. Now that I see all the choices I'm afraid they are doing it because they are worried of poor sales overall. Well I'm going to stick to my guns and wait for the beta to try the game out before dropping any money first. I've been burned by hype and pre-order candy before. I don't think I've totally learned my lesson about that but I am going to remember it this time.
will you buy it if it has this? what about from here with this? no? um what about from them with that? aw go on. oh i know these guys and this here sword right? yeah! deal! we made a customer!
I gave up on companies offering shady store based preorders after AOC.
I'm still waiting to get more exact descriptions of all the items offered. Nothing like giving people no real information so they can't make informed decisions about which pre-order they want. I would wait until at least open beta because hopefully once the NDA is dropped they will be able to provide more detailed game mechanic descriptions of these items... I'm still not really convinced that i would drop the money though, but that has more to do with other issues. If I were forced to pick one right now it'd probably be the “Liberated Borg” Bridge Officer... I'll name her Six of Eight. 8)

I am sure best buy Canada will have the preorder, they did for AoC, gamestop will too and most likely walmart. Doubt will happen with Target / Amazon though. Amazon.ca is far behind the times and the Target deal might be a Futureshop.ca deal.
The brick and morter EBGames/Gamestop has the pre-orders. thats where I ordered my CE on Saturday.
multiple bonuses? MMM smacks of desperation! will you buy it if it has this? what about from here with this? no? um what about from them with that? aw go on. oh i know these guys and this here sword right? yeah! deal! we made a customer! ...
I'm actually thinking about the people who cannot decide and wondering if each box contains a code?
You want the Borg? and the Constellation Class? Buy two boxes?
Hey, we had over 500000 box sales! Therefore we have 500000 players! ???
Intreasting. I win with whoever if i decide to preorder. Enterprise seems more apealing, then the borg officer 2nd.

All my opinions are just that..opinions. If you like my opinions..coolness.If you dont like my opinion....I really dont care. Playing: ESO, WOT, Smite, and Marvel Heroes
Or you can just catch the open beta, which is what I plan to do.
If it's anything like the Champion Online open beta you'll have to subscribe to Fileplanet to download the client for the majority of open beta. I'd be very suprised if unconditional open beta was more than 2 days before the headstart/launch..

Heh. They all sound good to me. I may just decide to get all six of them (well, actually 7 using two accounts - one for Fed and one for Klingon ). I do have a question though for anyone who may know (if not, I'll ask on the Trek forums)... are multiple bonus items usable on the same account or does each need to be used for a seperate account? That will surely influence my decision as to how many I purchase.
On a side-note here... I just went back and read a few other comments. It seems a lot of folks are worried that all of these bonuses are an indication of a bad game. Although that could certainly be the case and has happened before, there are instances of multiple bonuses for preorders in games that were/are quite successful. LOTRO had many bonus items for the Mines of Moria expansion from multiple sites and it was quite successful. EQ and EQ2 have used this technique successfully too. So just because some are seeing this as a doomsday launch due to an actual choice of bonus items doesn't necessarily mean it will be.

Any word on the UK / EU retailers yet?
I'm getting the impression they want people to buy multiple copies from multiple locations to get multiple rewards but only really use one account... ....
US or EU version? Or is there no localized versions of the game?
My gaming blog
what really sucks is that you will only get one of these unless you spend hundreds of dollers buying all the different versions.
besides STO will most likely end up being just another shallow hack and slash to fleece money from avid fans.
I moved from the "must have" collumn to the "wait and see" I actually thought this would be a huge threat to EVE it is not.
make a world, not a game, we dont want another game.
Holy friggin preorder batman!

I'd actually like a cash shop with these items in, so I can get them all.
Still only applies to USA nothing on EU retailer bonues.
One day Cryptic will sort out their PR team, but it doesn't look like it will happen any time soon.
Yeah any news on that? Or they keep neglecting us as most companies do?
My money is on "YES" with the collector's edition in-game items thrown in as well.
I am thinking the borg Boff will have the longest use but the ship is tempting.
For those not sure of the game they have the open beta set up far enough in advance that you can try the game out then decide to preorder
Magic is impressive, but now Minsc leads! Swords for everyone!
Steam's armor looks mighty sweet to me. Borg officer is tempting, as is the personal armor, but I am a Voyager fan and want crits.

Nothing says irony like spelling ideot wrong.
Useless pet or useful in-game items/upgrades? Hmmm...
so...

so, basically, you can't compete in unless you pre-order?
A friendly warning is dont preorder, wait for at least 1-2week after release to buy the game to see how the launch will go.

Anyone else think the "augmentations" of the Liberated Borg officer will be really big boobs?
