Same here :S
I hope I didn't brain my damage thinking about DF.
I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.
But people complain about the other MMOs! Those MMOs had trials and still they didnt hesitate to waste money on them. Even if they did try them first and saw they were useless games.
You are contradicting yourself. if they did buy the game after trying it, that means they didn't find that game useless. You dont buy something you hate if you tried it, right? If you do, you have oniomania and you should contact a psychiatrist.
Not everything in life is "try before you buy" you know?
FFS if you can't shell out $50 every once in awhile for a video game, wth are you doing even gaming. People are so self-entitled I swear to god.
I checked out FE before I bought DF. While I could see that it was a good game it just wasn't for me. Do I regret taking the "chance"? Hell no. It's $50 ffs. If I had ended up not liking DF as well, no skin off my butt. Every year I purchase a few games, some I like and some I don't. Same goes for movies. You don't get your money back if you decide you don't like it after 20 minutes.
bad example with movies - you cant TRY the movie before spending money on it. And please spare me the "50$ is nothing" routine, you obviously are either rich or your daddy/mommy pays your bills. For me, wasted 50$ is like 2-3 cases of beer, or a gift for my wife/kids, or an extra payment for my mortgage, or its a saving that goes towards my kids education, or a deposit towards my new car cause my old one is dying out. There are million of reasons where the money could go. If you don't mind wasting 50$ once in a while, send it my way. I will send you back a nice post card every time.
Most single-player RPGs or FPS requires you to buy the game but don't offer a Trial yet we still buy those games for $50-60 even though we know that the game won't last as long as an MMORPG will.
Is $50 a lot? Not if you invest your money in the right place and think before you buy. If you were able to put $50 in WoW, WAR, EQ (including multiple expansions), Aion, AoC, etc and suddenly $50 is a lot? Well the problem is you... not DarkFall for not having a Free Trial.
(You as in, whoever is complaining that $50 is a lot but wasted so much money on other MMOs)
There is a very big contradiction when someone says "Well I bought WoW, WAR, AoC, Aion but I didn't like them...and now I want to try DarkFall but there's no Trial?" Really? So you're ok spending $50 for the same old same old knowing you won't like it yet is afraid to spare $50 for DarkFall, which is clearly a different game that you are more likely to like if you are tired of the same old same old. Doesn't make sense.

You are missing the point. Investing 50$ is totally different then WASTING 50$. If I buy WoW and spend 3 years in it, its totally different then spending 50$ on DF and quitting in 3 days.

I'm sorry, but are you crazy? The whole POINT of my post is to PREVENT spending 50$ on something I do not like. I do not spend 50$ on anything before trying it first. If I do spend 50$ on something, its because I LIKE IT. Get it now?
I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.
That 50 dollars is a big hurdle to leap. But I finally did it and am glad I did. If you see my post history you'd see that I defend WoW quite a bit. It's not that I love WoW or anything, I just think it gets a bad wrap. I also am not a big fan of pvp but DF won me over. It's the most immersive game I've played since AC, EQ, and AO. There's just something about going about the normal everyday grind knowing that you can get attacked at anytime and lose it all. It makes even the simplest of activities dangerous and risky

I often post on here when I am harvesting, resting, crafting or just chillin in RL.
When people are bored of their game and posting on forums, it is normally them QQ about stuff or raging, not telling stories of what happened to them last night, or offering new players advice and so on. I think if anything since the latest xpack the game has picked up a whole lot for the better, people are burned out on the same old same old and id bet Aion was the final nail for many and in the end a nice sub community is forming here which is great IMO.
As I type this my GF is getting ready for a xmas party she somehow talked me into going to...something about free food and cocktails hooked me in...
I have been playing the past 4 hours however and have been playing it and League of legends only every single day haha.

Me too. In fact I'm actually mining Ore as I type this.

Im glad to hear you enjoy Darkfall : ) And yes, the difference between other themepark MMOs are almost painful (in a good way). Everyday here on MMORPG.com we can read about gamers looking for something different, why cant more people try DF then? They did try WAR, AoC, Aion without hesitation!
Couldn't agree more. But the explanation is simple, they're a bunch of sheeps buying into the hype made by the marketing department of every game (WAR anyone?).
Or perhaps they're just looking for a good game that they enjoy with that style of gameplay. You know, like how many DF fans have said they were waiting for a good sandbox-style MMO with open FFA PvP but hadn't found one yet. Some people, even after playing DF, still feel that way.
Perhaps what DF offers simply doesn't appeal to them?
Perhaps there's any number of other reasons why they're not trying it. Maybe they're not even aware of it? Maybe they are aware of it, but are on the fence. Perhaps reading a post like yours, calling them "sheep", would turn them away, believing it representative of the DF community (which has happened already in the past).
Who's to say that just because they're dissatisfied with all those other MMOs you've listed that DF would somehow be "the answer to all their gaming woes"?
I'm currently playing DF and enjoying it. I can also play a theme-park MMO and enjoy that, if it satisfies what I look for in that kind of MMO. Maybe it sounds crazy, but I don't believe in restricting myself to one type of game or another... I play whatever entertains me... I don't care what category it falls under.
I think it's sad that there are, seemingly, so many who will limit what games they play (or what music they listen to, or what type of computer they use, etc.) based on some concern about fitting some "label" or "image" that, ultimately, means nothing. To each their own, though, I guess.
Every new game is the second coming of Christ. WAR, AoC, CO, Aion, soon it will be SWTOR, Star Trek, and so on. It's overhype and people buy into the hype completing ignoring the fact ,out of their own will, that said game is just the same old same old.
And many people praised DF as being the second coming of Christ for a long time as well. Such rabid "devotion" to a game is not limited to so-called "theme-parks"... nor is it even limited to games. Ever seen the whole Mac versus PC arguments that go on? Some Mac users attack PC users, calling them "sheep" as well, with almost religious zeal... and it's just as ridiculous.

Only reason they don't want to join DFO right away is that DFO is filled with Wolves. And we all know that we need sheeps to feed the wolves. Only problem though is that DFO doesn't have that many wolves in the starter area.....anyway...
That said, have a nice day :þ
Yes, the explanation is simple, but not the one you mentioned. The explanation is, most games have trials. People try the game first, and then make an intelligent decision to buy the game or not. DF has no trial, hence not many people want to spend 50$ on something they may or may not like. Especially if the game is for a niche market.
But people complain about the other MMOs! Those MMOs had trials and still they didnt hesitate to waste money on them. Even if they did try them first and saw they were useless games.

I just referring to the fact that both WAR and AoC have not been as "succesful" as it should be : )
And many people do complain about both those games, even when they did try the first! Its not my fault they do it.

No, this is not the reason I don't play DFO at all. It's because:
1: Shitty computer.
2: No money.
3: No time.
ALLLLL those other games are complete and utter SHIT.
I stopped paying for games i can't try first a long time ago ... wasted to much money on disappointing games ....
Thats what im waitin for
Don't hold your breath. Will be a pain in the ass for AV to get a trial right. The only way I see it happening is a separate trial island segregated from the paying population. Otherwise everyone will just create a bunch of farming alts.

Oh come on, you can say that about any money you spend on entertainment. And no I'm not rich, nor do mommy and daddy pay for my bills.
The way I look at it $100-$200 (assuming you don't buy games like a 17 year old), is not too much to drop annually on a hobby you really enjoy. Even if the odd game doesn't suit your tastes.
I've been doing this since my Apple 2e days. However I will admit that mommy and daddy were funding my gaming back then

This "trial Island" you keep mentioning really sounds like a very reasonable and logical way to implement a free trial with Darkfall. Let's hope a Dev or two catch wind of this idea.

Ryzom's free trial takes place on an island separate from the mainland. As does Vanguard. It's a good idea really. If AV ever does implement a trial, I hope it's something along those lines.
Current: None Played: WoW, CoX, SWG, LotRO, EVE, AoC, VG, CO, Ryzom, DF, WAR Tried: Lineage2, Dofus, EQ2, CoS, FE, UO, Wurm, Wakfu Future: The Repopulation, ArcheAge, Black Desert, EQN

Didn't know that those games offered free trial islands, thanks for the info. Never got around to trying Ryzom, and Vanguard gave me all kinds of problems. Might have been my Windows Vista. Never could get it to run well.
Good to know that this kind of trial system can work.

I was mainly targetting players who buy those games then cry on the forum that the game isn't like what they were told (or so they say). They BOUGHT the game even though they knew it was just the same old same old and then they cry on forums about how said company lied and robbed them.
I completly agree with you that people praised DF has the second coming of Christ. Of course it failed because of the horrible launch but had the launch been succesfull perhaps things would've been different. Just like how EVE did horrible at first but now has 300k subs, DarkFall is slowly improving and unlike those "theme-park" games using the same formula with different graphics, both EVE and DarkFall did try to do something different.
Now the player feedback for those games are awesome and while DarkFall has quite a long way to go before it reaches the same popularity as EVE, it is growing at a fairly stable rate. If players are willing to put $50 on Aion and then stop after 2 weeks claiming "it's not like what they expected", well I don't see why they should have a problem to buy DarkFall.
Best bet is to look at both positive comments and negative ones, sort out the rubbish and try and make an intelligent decision.
Yes you are right, but have you seen a lot of negative comments lately?
We know this game has it's fault, but we honestly think its good. If you are tired of the normal mmos and have the extra money, why not try Darkfall. I've played a lot of mmo's the last 10 years, but Darkfall is different. This was the first time I felt like a totally new player since my UO days in 98. I used to wait for the next big mmo hit, but I don't care anymore. I have found my home for the next years.
If you complain about the state of mmo's without even have tried Darkfall, you should be quiet. Game like this is the only way to change the deadlock we have at the mmo marked these days.

I think there is also an other side .... as long as people keep buying quadriple B games ( bad, boring, buggy, beta-state), companies will not clean up their acts and try to improve them!
We as customers should make clear what is acceptable and what isn't .... best way to do that is to let our wallet talk.
Regarding Darkfall ... a few of my mates played it and say it's very intens ... due to the fact that i can only play small bursts of time and not really have the time to group up ... i wonder if it will be enjoyable.
What do you call a small burst of time? if say 1 hour then you have time to party up and do something provided you're in a decent clan that has a nice holding like a city. We're in a city now and when people are bound there you can log in and experience PvP (raids) and/or PvE with close by mob spawns in a party as everyone should be operating from that city.
There is a free trial in greece and last night I met a guy on the trial, he said he got it off a Greek website. I didn't inquire any further but a friend in the alliance was interested in getting some trials for friends so I hooked them up. I understand the hesitancy after playing last and this years round of AAA trash, similar themeparks wrapped up in a different skin with shitty button mashing combat.
Maybe if you look into it someone can hook you up, I'll ask about that site in alliance and let people know here if I get any luck.

Usually it's an hour here, half an hour there .... young kids do that to you ... can't wait to turn them into bots!
That's also a reason I almost never group up anymore ... as i can be (and will be) "called" away anytime ... and i hate to do that to a group, as much as i hate people do that to me when i'm in a group ... i only group up if i can really commit the time.
In our clan we usually party up anyway when there are a few playing even if we're doing something different. If the crap hits the fan you have no radar to find the enemy or your people so need to be grouped just incase. Also if someone is pveing you can just ride in and join them, DFO is actually alot more casual friendly than made out. It's just unlike most MMORPGs today you can't be casual and a max level PvP god within a month or two. I guess alot of the current crowd playing theme parks just find that another aspect of DFO too hard to accept.

I can't say I see much point in a trial isle for DF, it's hardly going to give a good representation of the game as a whole.
The main issue with a normal trial is that players will be able to make alt accounts (which is not needed) and these new players will be camping goblin spawns while awaiting for 2-3 PKer to jump in, throw a few nukes and kill 6-7 players without even trying.
Trial island will make it look like DarkFall at launch. Everyone is about the same level so if there's PKer well they are about just as strong as everyone else.

You are contradicting yourself. if they did buy the game after trying it, that means they didn't find that game useless. You dont buy something you hate if you tried it, right? If you do, you have oniomania and you should contact a psychiatrist.

Current: None
Played: WoW, CoX, SWG, LotRO, EVE, AoC, VG, CO, Ryzom, DF, WAR
Tried: Lineage2, Dofus, EQ2, CoS, FE, UO, Wurm, Wakfu
Future: The Repopulation, ArcheAge, Black Desert, EQN

Marlon,
What do you call a small burst of time? if say 1 hour then you have time to party up and do something provided you're in a decent clan that has a nice holding like a city.

-----
The person who is certain, and who claims divine warrant for his certainty, belongs now to the infancy of our species.
