for anyone who has been following the game this shouldnt come as a shock. Its been one empty promise and failed delivery from the dev team after another. Im sure SOEs lack of support/resources has played a huge roll in this but Its ultimately the current dev teams lack of focus and follow through. put VG out of its misery already and help those of us who still log in occasionally to let go and move on.
SoE, good job at sucking up the Holiday Spirit, you get the failure of a developer award this year!

Vanguard was already in very big trouble before this announcement. The entire plan now is to recycle old content and "bug bash". Obviously the staff got cut again so they can't possibly meet their goals of last year, but at the same time this design path seem to ignore the desires of the player base. More of the same I guess.
I must commend silius for being straight forward and truthful. It could not have been easy and I do feel bad for him. He always comes across as a broken man and hates being in the position he is in. People may not like him, but I wouldn't want to write that update. It is effectively telling your playerbase to keep paying until the game is officially dead.
I played The Matrix Online for 3 years, right up to the end. I've seen firsthand how SoE treats their playerbase. They bend us over and ream us. Kinda like Republicans, but less well dressed. Kinda like Democrats, but less forward-thinking. Kinda like Regan, but without the Jellybeans.
Yowtch... well... this is its best shot. Reading between the lines this looks like... "fix bugs and leave a skeleton crew in place". Keep maint costs to a minimum. If only 1 server remains, it stays alive.
Alternative is that they close it down.
Hope they keep it floating. Some folks love it, and it's a good thing in the world to find your fandom.

Those were sugar free jelly beans, mind ya!
Ya gotta admit though, SoE holds on to their games much longer than NCSoft does. Not that that says much.
Well, I can't blame the VG team. I think they want to deliver. I think the lack of funding from SOE has put them into a very tight spot and this is the only way they can cut enough costs to stay afloat.
I'll continue to play as I really enjoy the game. I've not reach top level or done any raiding yet and feel there is a ton of content still to go through.
It is a shame that the team has to go back to bug smashing....that has to be boring as hell.... It is a shame that the players will not be getting the content they've been waiting for...after a few years of playing the content and rewards for playing all this time have been taken away from those that continue to play.

When Vanguard was announced to be in development in 02/03, I was one of those who went nuts in celebration. I think the entire guild I was in at the time started packing our bags and got ready to move from EQ to Vanguard.
And then Brad sold out to SoE.
It was one of the saddest announcements that I ever recall hearing. Since that day, I had no doubt that SoE would ultimately kill Vanguard. Nice to see that SoE is doing their best not to disappoint me.
Im getting a warm sad lump in my belly when reading this from Silius. Whats the point now playing? There is no long term comittment from SOE. Those who are 55 adventurers, diplomats and crafters have not much to look forward too.
I feel sorry for the Vanguard players now. This game will not survive
It was one of the saddest announcements that I ever recall hearing. Since that day, I had no doubt that SoE would ultimately kill Vanguard. Nice to see that SoE is doing their best not to disappoint me.
I don't blame SoE. If a game like Vanguard struggle with less than 10.000 subscribers, the market preferences and customers are to blame. Why should SoE pump money into this when there's clearly no customers for it? I did try to promote Vanguard here, and on a few other boards for over two years. I love this game, but 99.999% of the players don't. I don't regret a single minute I spent in it, and will enjoy the game until the very end.
I'm honestly surprised SOE is not just outright killing the game. With these things to never be done like AA. I think it would have been better to kill it off. Write off the loss on their taxes and move on. Seriously SOE has enough to deal with the The Agency gone from all known life and DC online is having issues of it's own. I don't think it will see the light of day anytime soon. You don't run a protracted contest that makes your fans write content for you for a game that was supposed to be out already. The only thing SOE has right now that is worth anything is EQ2 and Free Realms. FR is making bank, and EQ2 has a stable fan base. Everything else in the Station Pass is fluff. Total fluff.
I never could figure out the Diplomacy card game in Vanguard, I ran through the tutorial twice. It never made sense to me.

Brad did not sell out, he got bailed out. He mis-managed that mess into the ground. Brad did everything you could do wrong and more in running a company. He blew 30 mil of microsoft's money. I'm surprised that MS has not sued him for every penny of it. SOE got it for a fraction of that. Brad hid out at home for the last 3 months of the companies existence. It was a sad sad tale. Programmers make sucky business people.

Hmm, I think I went into this on another thread some time back. So, all I'll say is that SoE has a dismal history which has more to do with how they treat their customer base, rather than the games themselves, which in the past resulted in potential subscribers being more than wary of SoE and their products. This, and other things, led to Vanguard being hamstrung right at the start.
If you support SoE, hey, good for you, it's your wallet anyways not mine.

I think the diplomacy is ingenius, but just like with everything else in the game, it is too complicated at first. It is a brilliant non-combat activity and give you a lot of insight about the lore in the game.

Sadly, you're right. Just wish it was any other company instead of SoE.

Leave it to SoE to drop the ball yet again.
