I've been playing DF on and off since beta, and don't get me wrong the game itself is wonderful... but in saying that I am also leaving because of the rampant exploiting. Not so much that it happens a lot now, but in the past without AV wiping people's banks of gold and items they did not earn... I'm sick of feeling like these clans that exploited can never be caught up to, or beat in a fight over a city. The game caters towards zergs a little too much in my opinion.
So in the end with the latest Mortal Online patch just coming out I've pre-ordered and am looking forward to a fresh start in a game that I know will have a rough start... but at the same time I don't feel the game will be nearly as exploitable as Darkfall was/is. What has really ruined Darkfall for me is the community, yes a lot of people are nice and helpful, but that isn't my concern. My concern lies within the "nature of the beast" where even nice people will do anything to get above his fellow man... I don't want to macro every skill too 100 to compete with EU transfers, nor do I want to grind the base stats. In Mortal there is a SKILL CAP, something Darkfall should have had from day 1 and yes it was a feature listed while the game was still in development.
I know I helped talk a few people into buying DF on these forums, and I hope you all enjoy the game as I did. But I've simply had enough... and been around long enough to know these clans that cheated will always be ahead.
At least in Mortal running a small clan looks to be a possible choice in still wanting to compete. Combat is slower, little clunky right now but still extremely fun. I find more challenge and skill in it.

Odd are, some folks/clans will figure out a way to exploit in MO and you'll be right back where you started from.
Have yet to see a game that doesn't have this problem, what matters is how you deal with it.

I left DF after the 1st month, I did beta and all that and the only reason I left was because my account did not auto-renew. So I went to log in one day and could not because of this so their web site was still hit and miss at that time so I quit.
As for MO I have been there for awhile now and if you think it is less grindy than DF you will be sadly mistaken. Not dissing the game but at least with DF you had some quests you could do. MO has ZERO quests, or atleast none in the game as of the last time I logged in.
Everyone has the right to play what ever they like, I just hope you enjoy what ever game you deside to play.
Sorry, but like I said I've been in the game since beta. I love DF, however in saying that I've also been around a lot in game. I know a lot of leaders for many of the different clans and constantly all they are interested in are exploitable mobs that don't move. The recent changes fixed a lot of issues, but at the same time has also screwed over many people. Clans that used known exploits have billions of gold and resources that were not earned properly... and I just really don't want to be part of a community that feels macroing everything to 100 is a must.
I've dealt with more than I should have and it's just time to move on, could MO turn out the same? Yeah it could, but at the same time it's an unknown. I know Darkfall will continue to grow, but I also know that certain individuals and clans will always be on the top and untouchable because of past flaws in the game they took advantage of. Yes politics could bring them down, but in the end the game caters towards those people too much. Not many people were banned for exploits when thy should have been.
So yeah, I'm just sick of always having on my mind "what's the fastest way to level a certain skill", again MO may have the same mindset... but there is a skill cap. So I will be happy to see a lot more diversity in play-style rather than the constant everyone is the same in DF

There has been a huge update to MO just released today, don't think there are quests... and really it's a sandbox MMO, it doesn't need a lot of quests to make me happy.

One thing that turns me off from skill based games instead of level based is most seem to allow acquiring of all skills in the game. I have nothing against skill based but there needs to be a max of points you can earn to make character building a decision. In Darkfall I believe everyone has the potential to earn all skills to max and I am hoping this isn't the case in Mortal Online. When you say the skills cap I hope that means point placement matters.
I don't know why developers of skill based games believe being able to potential max all skills is a good thing?
Um if you had read my posts I stated twice there is a skill cap in MO that forces people to choose skills based upon what role they want to play. People cannot be everything in Mortal, and dedicated crafters will be highly sought after.

i usually wait a day and dl the whole thing in 20mins
As you don't seem to be aware of this. Aventurine had to choose between Skill Cap or Specialization. They chose Specialization. Why? Instead of limiting your choices, you may choose to specialize in melee or archery at the cost of magic abilities. Wearing heavy armor renders magic almost useless too.
There are lot more going on then you think and not everyone is a magewarriorarcher.
Just my 2 cents.
90% of your post I feel is just a useless rant. There will always be guilds that are ahead, whether they cheat or not, they'll be ahead. That's the nature of it. You can be a part of those guilds or fighting to reach those guilds.
In Darkfall you keep building, and you can always build to as high as you can get. So your whole cheating guilds thing is more of a whine than a legitimate reason to quit.
But...the part where you say you want a skill cap is a good reason to quit. It's a variation to the game where you might enjoy it more. Everyone plays the game for their own reasons, and with their own preferences.
I'll admit freely that I wonder if skill caps would foster more teamwork where different skills would have to meld, like they do in more typical MMO's. I'm not looking for classes, but I always liked the way a well put together group was more valuable than it's individuals.
I wish you the best in Mortal, but I think it's going to be a lesser game than Darkfall and not a good testing grounds for the game you want.

I feel sorry for you, MO is a crappy game atm. I've had an MO account since the beginning of its beta and I try it again every once in a while after patches. It still sucks.
Right on, play the game you enjoy playing

MO needs 1 year minimum to be ready for launch, it has the core features, basic of the basic ones...with bugs...has nothing else.
I think I am a bit confused. If you have been playing sense beta then you would know that there are LESS exploits now then their used to be. I am also a bit confused how you think MO would be any different in that respect.

That gives it a leg up from where DF was at its launch.
DF Beta > MO Beta (Alpha) obviously
Have to agree since DF was in beta for about 5 years.

Call me crazy but I hope both games succeed regardless of how disastrous any launch/launch to be went/goes down.

I completely agree. I see no reason why we cant have both in the market place. Options are nice and in gaming there really isnt as many options as their should be.

#1 I know there are LESS, the problem like I clearly stated isn't the now but the then. It's the past exploits that have made the game what it is today, less exploits is good, not taking away the vast fortunes people made using exploits in the past is bad.
#2 I stated clearly again MO could turn out the same way, I have no illusions in that. However from my experience in the beta the game is a lot harder, which I like. I don't see the mobs being quite as exploitable.
As for comparing the Beta stages of both games that's pointless, MO still has time to grow before release.

fair enough.
On beta comparision topic I think it doesnt really help on the question of what will one play tonight. which when the day is done is the only thing that really matters.
Dont get me wrong, I hope MO is a success, its just that for today DF is better from my understanding. That said, there are specific design differences that make me less intrested in MO but to be honest I would still give it a shot if i had time.

I hope you enjoy MO! I honestly feel right now, Darkfall is the better choice and it will be some time until MO is really enjoyable. However 6 months from now, I dunno, could be a whole new ball game.
In the end I also want both to do well and could see myself playing both since they seem really different to me. Having two good sandbox games is awesome, we should all support this and the more people they bring in the better, this is very good for the genre as a whole. I just hope MO gets it right and that Darkfall gets a lil fire under their bums and makes glorious content patches win - win!
Mortal Online will likely have a fatal problem at launch, just as Darkfall had some.
And it will also, most likely, have exploiters.

The game I want is both to survive and thrive, as for you thinking I was whining I was not. I have been a part of those clans and left because I didn't want to be part of their "cheating". I know clans will always be ahead, but to be ahead because you found an exploit and used it none stop is a poor way to be considered powerful.
As for the skill cap yes, I believe there should be one to promote more teamwork in the game, the specializations they added simply are not enough to curb people from being powerful with everything at once.
I know many good clans in Darkfall, I wish them the best. But to me the game has turned into a non stop macro/grind just to get to maxed stats, and that isn't fun. I like to pvp, and because I chose for so long to do nothing but pvp I am now losing the will to since even the people I play with think they are useless until they get all magic schools to 100.

Am I the only one who has played MO then Darkfall and find the MO beta (while buggy) is more intriguing and exciting than Darkfall's extremely slow stat gains on one character? I'm currently playing DF now actually...but when MO launches I certainly plan to hop onto that. There something about making something REALLY hard to achieve only because you get one character that I don't like.
Would much rather have more than 1 char slot with cap and faster gains.
