This has got to be the most hilarious thing I have ever read. A player from Scary Bad Guys has inflitrated a large amount of guild on the EU server and emptied all their banks (before AV enforced rules regarding i's and L's )
Enjoy.

This is pure win
Didn't see him using any names with i's and L's, except a couple.. so much respect to that guy's communication and deception skills
(was in one of those guilds when it got scammed lol. Didn't know he had done it to so many others)
I actually feel bad for them zergs : /
But it is still a pure win
dude, this is fuckin awesome!
That was so brilliant! It's stuff like this that makes these games so incredible. One of the many reasons I still like to play in a sandbox.
I especially liked this little tidbit: "after arriving at the vindicators city i was greeted by a half dozen naked polearm wielding retards and despite it being 6v1 actually managed to kill one with a brand new character and a leafblade."
"Mr. Rothstein, your people never will understand... the way it works out here. You're all just our guests. But you act like you're at home. Let me tell you something, partner. You ain't home. But that's where we're gonna send you if it harelips the governor." - Pat Webb
Yeah I loved that part. Really goes to show that because you zerg, doesn't mean you will always win.

Also, I just saw this a few hours ago and I strongly urge players and clans to declare WAR on NEWSlayers who are known for excessively griefing NEW. They are fairly weak and stupid but should be griefed until they run home crying in their mothers arms.

Is it wrong that I was kinda rooting for the guy after the 3rd time?
Did word of this not get around the game after the first or second times or something?
and the cash shop selling asphalt..." - Mimzel on F2P/Cash Shops
I actually read the entire thing, in fact after the first paragraph I know it was epic, and opened a bottle of Tequila to enjoy while reading. The writer was pretty damn funny and on the mark about quite a bit that happened. Amazing he was able to rinse and repeat these scams, which reinforces the notion people will not typically admit they have been ripped off, bieng too embarassed to admit it.
That desire to not let others know what was going on I think led to the success of this scammer for so long, he did for quite a period of time use two principal scripts, had his previous marks admitted to these stings publically enough, one would suspect that other guilds/officers would have then see the approach for what it was, a scam.
Then again...as he himself so often concluded about the mental qualities of his marks, perhaps not...
At any rate it is one of the strengths of Darkfall in my opinion that you can in fact execute these scams. After all in a truely open full loot full pvp game, one should also be able to use traps, pickpocketing, atc as well. In fact id like to see things like this added, as it will simply make the game more robust, giving the player base more choices. After all, wouldnt bieng a brigand or a thief appeal to some?
Who knows even I might then suscribe! At any rate, epic, and if I ever met this guy id pick up his bar tab.
Reminds me of old thief stories from UO. Sometimes metagaming isn't cool, but it's always funny.
now im glad i never bothered with this game i got to give him props though its amazing how stupid people can be hell you get your guild bank wiped one time in wow and it never happens again also goes to show that the community must suck in this game as id figure someone would have told someone else to look out for this kinda scam
outstanding, an exploit accomplishment that I am sure will bring in many new players and keep the already low numbers playing.
Whrre was he exploiting game? He was exploiting human stupidity. Besides same is happening in EVE on daily basic and still it's mmmorpg No1. Go post something similar on EVE forums and you will be laugh at.

lol i dont think so, CCP would not let such toon shifts go by. but nice try. Have a nice day
Are you serious? You haven't played EVE at all.

That's only 2 biggest scams in EVE. Scamming is allowed in both games.
Well, it's all fun and games till people start leaving the game lol. In my opinion creating new chars with the sole intent on scamming people is a bit of a shady area. You are exploiting in a very basic way actually. Not only people's stupidity but also getting around the whole idea of accountability open world games are supposed to gravitate around. Tough nuts to the dumbasses who fell for it, but where exactly is the accountability in all this ? Player scams your city with a new char, transfers everything to BLANK etc.
This is not an exploit.
The guy is roleplaying as a spy and a tief. Spies have no names and multiple identities, they are infiltrating organisations to do their thing and may leave to be never found again.
The accountability is that he might be discovered; this is what also happened in one instance when he told them his clan name or when he helped his clan in an attack.
This really shows the potential Darkfall has, you can be a good guy or a bad guy, true to the RPG sandbox spirit.
The people who can't handle some roleplaying in a sandbox game should better play the linear theme parks that would be much better suited for them. This is no linear handholding mmo ala Lotro & Co., sorry.
@ Op this was a great read, thanks for posting
Meh...
I guess wether the whole "strategy" of lying yourself into trust of other players to rob them afterwards is acceptable or not... I guess you can say in a full-loot MMORPG it's more acceptable than in others, because you assume that you lose your stuff anyway sooner or later. I personally wouldn't do such stuff in a game because I can have fun without spoiling the fun of others, but that's just a personal playstyle I guess.
What bugs me though are the sexist, insulting and racist comments by the guy. I mean how can anyone say "well done" if a guy throws comments as that around? Is that maybe like a teenager thing who think that "gangsta rappers" are cool? I don't understand that.
Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)
Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)

Wait, what? You give the guy a pass by calling it "RP"? The guy didn't care if he got caught, ever. He had nothing to lose under any circumstance, other than his 15 minutes to make a new char, and check the clan list. He was at no risk at any time, whatsoever, and in most cases probably never left the bank of the town where he created the character. What he did through the entire thing was what should be considered an exploit, be it feeding on player stupidity or not. It isn't as though he joined these guilds as a fresh toon, played with them, earned their trust, got promotions, and made off with their loot after deceiving them for a time (what I would consider "roleplaying a spy"). He made new characters with names similar (or seemingly identical with I's and l's) to those in charge of the clans, got invited and then promoted within the clan, and within 10-15 minutes in most cases looted their clan banks with absolutely no recourse or accountability for the victims.
Personally, when I first caught this post yesterday, I went through and read the entire thing. At first, I couldn't help but laugh at the gullible sods he pulled this off against. I, too, thought to myself "these guys are so stupid they deserved it!" especially given some of the 'history' the guy presents us with. Then, by the time I finished page 2, I no longer felt like laughing, or rooting for the thief. I realized that he's the typical elitist "you're not good enough to play with me" prick. On top of being an elitist prick, he's a racist prick (and not just jokingly racist - outright, literal racist) with no respect whatsoever for anyone or anything. It's easy enough to do I suppose, given the complete and utter lack of accountability (read through - he knew there was no consequence for his actions, and gloats about it often), and amazingly enough people actually empathize with this guy without a second thought to the players and people whose time and fun he screwed over. His thieving was against completely random people which he had no prior association with, but merely picked out from a laundry list of "gullible assholes". I guarantee that DF lost players due to this guy, and given the scope of the clans he hit, probably quite a few. The only real consequence is that someday he may no longer have anyone left to scam, but with the mentality of such a person, they'll just find the next way to grief someone....
The worst part of a thread like this is the fact that it will likely turn on light bulbs above some other random MMORPG.com reader's head who'll sit there thinking "why didn't I think of this first!?" and go attempt to copy the 'scary bad guy'. And why not? After all, there's obviously not many here who thinks it such a bad idea (lest it happen to them) and it's clear that other than banning those who exploit I's and L's, Aventurine certainly tends to not have much a stance against this type of thing.
As an aside, check this link. It's the guy who wrote that story's profile. I particularly enjoyed his signature. Certainly shows the class of the fella everyone here is calling "pure win". Sure am glad though that it's all "just a game" and that griefing to such a degree should probably just pass as "good fun" for all those involved. I mean, if this happened to my clan I'd certainly just shrug it off and tell the guy what a great job he'd done on "spying" and "infiltrating" us by spending all of 10 minutes to do so, even though my clan and I had perhaps just lost hundreds to thousands of actual hours in played time collectively. Good job indeed! Enhanced my fun 10x!
TL;DR : Anarchy ftw! This guy's my hero
"The power of accurate observation is commonly called cynicism by those who have not got it."
George Bernard Shaw
What is a cynic? A man who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing.
Oscar Wilde
I'm with maji on this one. Some terms he used and how he used them went over the top. The amount of communities and peoples' hard work he destroyed also went too far. By the way, this doesn't really have much to do with anarchy, cyber terrorism would be more suited term. What I appreciate though in his actions is that his main target was the zerg clan clusters, which are just harmful for the game.
The "praising" of this guy here and on the df forums astounds me. What would have happened if that same guy had taken the same effort and done something good for those guilds? The game as a whole would have been better for it. Instead, sadly, the game is worse for his deeds.
To the thief and those who think hes cool.....take a long hard look at your life, because your not exactly the epitome of humanity.
It is only a computer game.
And i find the clans to blame themself in this one. If they dont care to check for spies (when they play a war based MMO) why should they care if they loose thier items.
But to be honest, i get really angry with the writer as well. And do you know why? Because i have been fooled to in DF.....but i see i was really stupid, and i have noone else to blame then my own stupidity. I could only laugh and tell the person he really got me there.
Nothing else to do. Walk it of, and plan your revenge.
And have not horrible things have happend in other MMOs? Were there not a funeral eeing ganked in WoW or something? That is why i dont play games as WoW, a community like that is nothing i would wanna play with.
The members of these clans should blame the higher ups for being so easily manipulated. Hey though, full loot open world sandbox for the win lol....
No signature, I don't have a pen
yea he does seem to act very childish in his actions if he was doing it as a computer tech would to show that there is weakness and to point out vulnerabilities that would be one thing but he even goes so far as to leave a smiley face as if he is doing something clever in reality im suprised that somone hasnt done anything about him but then i dont play this game so yay for me
but i dont recall hearing that spies was a class i honestly dont think people are getting into this game and expecting someone to lie and decieve his way into thier group just fosters bad community and causes people to avoid playing in guilds for fear that they may lose thier junk but then someone shouldnt have been so dumb either like i said before if he was doing it to show how poor the guild is then fine but to do it just cuz you can is another thing altogether

I think these are event that will make the community to evolve. To learn from mistakes. Noone were forced to give away all gear. They were tricked, and could very easely have done something to prevent it. None of the clans did get robbed because they were smart, only because they were stupid. Do you think this will happen again? Not likely, someone will try....yes : )
And this will become really intesresting in the future. Next time someone tryed to bull of another scam......will they get fooled as easely again. Or will they have learned something? Will they take responsibility for thier own actions. That is the importent thing.
Some gear they will have replaced in a matter of days.
