Just when you think it could not get worse the servers crash before anyone gets in to play--cryptic earns the EPIC FAIL of the year award.

Current status says the server is down. It's not uncommon for launches to be bumpy.
Main website is down, and I can't log in. I get an "unable to authenticate" error.

If they added instances with 200 or more player, entering other players ships and added lots of Items and skills i'd give it two thumbs up.

Nobody is in playing the server is down the forums are down and in my book that is a pretty piss poor showing. So for my epic fail of the year award it goes to cryptic
I was logged on, then decided to log off to recreate my character, bad idea. I believe their account server went boom. That is why you cant authenticate and why there are still players online playing. And jeez it didnt take long for the annoying whiners to start posting, pathetic.

Me too. It was fun for about 5 minutes. Now I get to play the login min-game.
I have the same. The servers must have blown up shortly after 10am PST. You could tell from beta that they were not going to be ready. Oh well.

But this game is different then a real mmo it's heavily instanced how could it crash? didn't they test it in beta?

Except it has happened with pretty much every MMO to launch, even the beloved WoW. Yes I was there I remember the server crashes and the almost free extra month of play time because of downtime. You would think people would have learned to chill, I didnt realistically expect to actually get much playing done till this evening or late night anyways.

It's the login server -- people are getting authentication errors.
Yup, got into the tutorial, crashed and now can't authenticate. Like no one saw this coming. I anticipate about 6 hours of emergency maintenance today, and tomorrow and every day of the head start.
I got booted while I was playing. From what I'm reading lots of other people did as well, so it's not just an issue with the login server.
Apparently the server is up and running, it's the account authentification and/or log-in thats fubar.

How many people long for that "past, simpler, and better world," I wonder, without ever recognizing the truth that perhaps it was they who were simpler and better, and not the world about them?
