Does anyone know how long the open beta lasts?

no announcement yet as to how long it will be. I would guess 2 weeks or longer. They are using it as part of the beta process and not just a marketing tool. If they were using it as marketing then there marketing person should be hung from cross and left to die.

i have to agree with you on this 1 LMAO

MO is a scam, and a crap scam at that.  Dark and Light was litterally better at this stage of development.

I disagree. MO knows exactly what it wants to be and its developers know exactly where they want it to be.

The game will be completely free and in open beta until release. We don't know the duration, but after seeing Closed Beta, I'm guessing OB will be a month or two long. That's plenty of time to prove it's not a scam.

It's all a matter of time now.

    [Mod Edit]

but the game reminds me of Uo alot its just needs more time before they release it

Yes, me too, the official page download is corrupted for sure, I downloaded it by another page (a-something games, use google and "download mortal online beta") and that one was 20 MB bigger and fine ...

What I find even more irritating: when I try to create an account it asks me for payment informations and adds a game box to buy for like 60something euro ...?!? seems no way to avoid this or am I overlooking something?!?

Played: Pretty much any fantasy MMO, some did not even make it to release ...
Favorites: UO, EQ2, Vanguard, Wurm Online, Salem, ESO, Creativerse
Playing: ESO, Creativerse, Guild Wars 2
Anticipating: (sigh) ... maybe Ashes of Creation

I disagree with you in principle. I have no doubt that the team (I would say dev team, but I dont consider modders, devs) knows where they want the "game" to go. I'm just sure that they lack the ability to get the job done.

Another studio, running out of money, has to put another unfinished game on the market.  The big question is whether the game will be around long enough for them to fix it.  It is always a question whether it is worth investing money in this game in the hopes that it will.

Seems to be working for Darkfall.

In principle, I was going based on the fact that OB could be a significant duration and taking that as proof that it's not just a money grab and in any way possible, they really are trying to hold off the release.

I have no doubt they'll go bankrupt before the game gets fixed, as they're a sinking ship at this point, especially with all the bad press, but the point stands that they know what they want to do and will do what they can while they can.

If the only reason you're here is to tell me to leave it alone, then I kindly ask you to leave me alone.

Seriously, the post I made had nothing to do with game contents and you only have beef with me because I don't like Darkfall.

Wait, that's right...you play Darkfall...wtf are you doing here anyways?

I'm going to use the same excuse a fan of every other new game uses.

Darkfall's been out for a year. Mortal hasn't even been released yet.

Give it the time you all gave Darkfall and it will start shaping up into more of a game.

Fallen earth pretty much killed the "They are small indy dev company, you cant expect them to do everything right at the beginning!" defense...they're small indy company and yet they managed to release product that didnt feel like its in alpha stage.

Star vault used 80% of their cash in the most expensive 3d engine in the planet and forgot to save enough money to create the game around it.

IMO, Mythic killed that excuse long ago when they created DAoC. Mythic proved you can create a fun game if the core of the game is legit even if you have small funds. Wait a minute what's that other game where people will kill you if you badmouth it? EVE? Yea, CCP another small company that created a strong game.

There is a patch expected to come out to address the lag issues. It's looking like their database is having trouble keeping up with the amount of new players.

You've forgotten DAOC's launch state. Sure it was "smooth". There was no content. Classes massively unbalanced, sides unbalanced, no PvP, most monsters didn't drop loot, entire dungeons WITH NO MONSTERS.

Yeah, it was a giant mess.

    To those wondering:

MO definitely has a "feel" of old UO.  To me, it's that "feel" that I was told I couldn't get again from my first gaming experience. Finished or not finished.

Darkfall did NOT have the same "feel" of UO what so ever.

    This is just me personally.

wow just "played" around with MO...if u want to call it that. this game is so incredibly unfinished its like romping around in a early alpha, no mobs, no finished UI, no icons for characters or other various important information. and the full fledged nudity where everyone is naked with their dongs and hoohahs running about untethered is initially funny but quickly wears thin when you realize there is no real game to play. PVP game or not, this game is for a lack of a better term a POS. though Id like to see what it would if they actually add fundamental features to the game. just really stunned frankly. im wondering when they gonna add a "fun" option in the settings.

    3.4ghz Phenom II X4 965, 8GB PC12800 DDR3 GSKILL, EVGA 560GTX 2GB OC, 640GB HD SATA II, BFG 1000WATT PSU. MSI NF980-G65 TRI-SLI MOBO.

    You are misinformed.

DF in beta was 10 times better than MO.

MO needs at least 6 more months to get to the same point DF was just before release, and another year to get to the point DF is now, that's if Starvault survive.

The state the game is at the moment doesn't allow me to gamble my money on it at the moment.

I will think about  in 6 months time.

Afaik, EvE was about at the point Darkfall is now around the time of release, as I was recently corrected by a DF fan. This is one reason why everyone gives so much hope to DF.

The world itself looks freaking awesome. The characters not so much. I can't tell at all what gameplay is really like from the video.

I hope SV makes it through this low point and turns MO into a great game. It has a lot of promise. I just hope they last long enough to get it there.

    Current: None
Played: WoW, CoX, SWG, LotRO, EVE, AoC, VG, CO, Ryzom, DF, WAR
Tried: Lineage2, Dofus, EQ2, CoS, FE, UO, Wurm, Wakfu
Future: The Repopulation, ArcheAge, Black Desert, EQN

I'd say "Try it out! It's free!!!" but in all honesty if you're not sure from the start you'll like what you see, then I'd wait til they can polish it into something more than it is now.

I think I'm going to wait. I don't want to jump into it and be left with a bad initial impression. I've been eagerly awaiting MO for a while now, so I'm willing to wait longer for it.
