I have no issue discussing other people's opinions about the game, even if I do not share their views. I have done this for a while on these forums, with many different users. You and a couple of other users are continually going in the same circle, and your stance is obviously not going to change. This is the point where it becomes whining. It's childish to repeatedly ask for the same thing over and over and over again. Especially when many people have given you valid reasons why it should not be.
Hahaha, wow. If I were cussing up a storm, and ranting/raving over the matter, I would wholeheartedly agree with you there. I think, however, that you need to look up the definition of childish. To take a page from your book:
child·ish (chldsh)
adj.
1. Of, relating to, or suitable for a child or childhood: a high, childish voice; childish nightmares.
2.
a. Marked by or indicating a lack of maturity; puerile: tired of your childish pranks.
This is the only one that could possibly be even remotely relevant, but I haven't been immatureorpuerile in any of my posts on the subject - I've merely responded to the opinions others have expressed. Now, if you want to discuss debate tactics, such as detracting from the topic of discussion, then we can go down that road if you want.
immature [??m??tj?? -?t???]
adj
1. not fully grown or developed
2. deficient in maturity; lacking wisdom, insight, emotional stability, etc.
3. (Earth Sciences / Physical Geography) Geography a less common term for youthful [4]
Honestly, if you want to try and discredit what I have to say, take another road man. I'm not trying to reduce the discussion to such things, you guys are. If you really want to get into it, who's being immature here? Blow on out if you want. I find the discussion interesting, and somewhat productive when people can say what's on their minds about the issue at hand. It's when it gets reduced to the whole "OMG shut up and leave me alone!" type of argument that it does in fact get embarrassing.
One of the big selling points for DF was that player skill should matter more than character stats. The current linear progression in character power levels is in direct conflict with that principle.
A veteran player already has a lot of advantages:
Wealth, so he can afford to use/lose more expensive equipment
Superior knowledge of the game world and game mechanics
A bigger social network
Adding passive advantages based on time spent playing in a linear fashion as well makes no sense. "I've spent 4 times longer than you playing, so my character should be 4 times stronger" mentality does not belong in a full pvp sandbox game. Now, I applaud Aventurine for having slow character progression so players can feel that their character's potential is advancing even after having played a long time. There's absolutely no reason not to have diminishing results, though. There would still be as much of a sense of progression if it took 1 month to reach 80% of your character's potential and a year to max out as a system where you're at 10% of your character's potential after a month, but still a year to max out. The former just makes the game more fun for new players and puts a greater focus on player skill.
Originally posted by xpiher I like the way the game is now because right now the out come of a fight is largely (90% I'd say) determined by a player's skill not their character. Thats best for a PvP game don't you think.
Hehe, so stat, skill and gear only counts for 10 %? Did you stop playing when nakedfighting was popular?
I`m not saying you are wrong, but let me ask you this.
If stats hardly doesn`t matter, why not increase the gain?
We know a huge grind, and a large difference between a vet and a new player doesnt work in a full-loot mmo. Darkfall have proven this fact. Darkfall is a year old, and the game is better than ever. Despite the good game, we only have a few thousand players left on EU1. This is confirmed by this site logging the active players in EU1 clans. df.urme.com/index.php
The large battles Darkfall was famous for are rare, and they happens once a week according to some of the grind defenders. I love those battles and think once a week is a joke for a pvp mmo. Everytime a battle with more than 20+ players occures, a post will be made on this site forums.darkfallonline.com/forumdisplay.php . You can look at the dates and judge for yourself. You can however spend a few hours hunting harvesters or attack empty hamlets/citys. I personally don`t call that pvp.
The grind defenders claim Darkfall is a niche game and are suppose to be an empty world. They are wrong. One Darkfall server is made to hold 30-40 k players. The game is based on politics, large batlles, sieges and got huge ships. if we don`t have a large population, the concept of darkfall will fail at it`s core. Now the EU1 server is so empty they give away citys if you got an active clan.
The funny part is that some grind defenders claim we can`t take the heat in a full-loot mmo. NO ONE have ever made a complain of losing gear in PVP...EVER. We want to risk our gear in a risk - reward mmo. Heck I don`t die enough in this PVE game Darkfall have become. Listen Evasia, I WANT TO DIE MORE OFTEN. The last time I died in DF was 30 jan, and I play 5 hour a day. My bank is filled with gear, and I don`t bother picking up weapons under R50 from mobs.
I don`t know what plans AV have to save Darkfall, but they need to do something to get alot of new players. My guess is faster gain and more specialization. It doen`t matter how many quest, PVE or fluff they implement in Darkfall. Darkfall is a pvp mmo at its core, and only pvpers can make it work.

Reduce the fucking grind
Simple, since stats don't matter and its darkfalls only long term character progression due to the nature of the game, reducing the grind to attain stats will have a negitive impact on population.
Anyone who says you need 75 in stats before you can dream of competeting suck at the game and don't know how the game works at all.Thats the main problem, people die and look for an excuse on why they die and the current target is stats. Learn how the game works before bitching about its mechanics for the love of god
100 arch mage (high int) vs 50 arch mage with everything else being equal is a difference in maybe 10dmg. Omg you only have to hit the person 3.6 times instead of 4, but in reality you still have to hit them that 4th time.
I've been playing for 11 weeks, just under 3 months and i have 63 str, 60ish vit and 77 wisdom. I have 2 jobs, a gf and a new niece that i visit often.
I have 307 HP at the moment and have acquired the masteries for 2h sword, archery and just got to 75 in WC for witches brew. If you dont know how to level your stats efficiently, whose fault is that?
I dont think it is hard to level stats at all, nor do i think they make all too much difference as long as you use your skills wisely and dont try to fight someone with a rank 50 weapon with your rank 20. I think the problem is, people engage in fights with other players who have maxed skills and weapons appropriate to those skills and think some stat difference is why they got annihilated. Total misconception, but you arent going to convince anyone on here of that.

People want to pwn 1 v 1 against vets from day 1. It's not going to happen. Deal with it and stop crying about it, please. Just play the game and stop focusing on other players and their stats / skills. Believe it or not, you can have a LOT of fun if you focus on your own character, and do PVP in GROUPS instead of trying to solo everything/one.

Yeah and you werent absolutly swimming afk at all. These stats are nearly impossible to achieve without afk stuff. And you wisdom is aswell very high, which says you crafted pretty a lot. And now im asking do you play 8-12h per day and rest doing afk swimming or what? Otherwise i cant explain your str / vit vs wisdom. As for me is my strengh stat second highest after quickness as i do grind a lot.
How long do you work for each job h/day? Would interesst me as here where i live you cant have 2 jobs. You would burn out pretty quickly as you minimum work time is 8h per day.

Man but the game must reward players for their efforts and devotion, doesn't it? Or it will lose them. Remember that crap with attuneable mobs in Oblivion? Many players were frustrated that mobs always were on par with them no matter how hard they (players) work. For MMORPG this can potentially lead to big problems. The same guys who now whine about veterans may start to whine about being owned by every single noob. And they WILL start to whine. Because whiners always whine about everything. Or perhaps they won't whine but just quit. Like they did in SWG when they got what they wanted...

There are true words but aswell some wrong ones. Just look at runescape. The people were there always on same level. The only reward they had, was that they had better access to different items (weapons etc). If this would suck, shouldnt runescape be failure long ago? Ok it got broad access to people by being based only on browser, but still this gameplay was accepted and people adapted to it. And there are a lot of other games where people are more or less par on par besides gear (which matters a lot of in DF aswell lol).
In my opinion AV went wrong direction by giving only long term rewards (stats) and making them still be important (more or less by different opinions). I dont know maybe they just didnt know better way to that day how to reward long term players. And i think we will never find it out.
As i mentioned before if the people will leave, if newbs get better start, they would leave anyway.
As mentioned before i didnt see a single sentence about instant gratification, like all fanboys like to claim. The discussion is all about accelerated start for newbs (stat gain increase to 50), so they can start faster actually to play the game (PvP).
I really had to lol about Oblivion as for me it was never a big deal about the enemys being par on par There was always a challange, although gear pretty disabled that par on par argument.

I am going to make damn sure and bench mark my attributes on the 11th week to see if I am around these numbers. I have a very good mentor in game. Someone whom is a EU transfer and has givin me alot of advice of how to go about raising my attributes via play...not macroing. So the proof is going to be in the pudding then. I too, like you suspect out superman friend here has a bit of help...
There is a name for reworking and reworking a game to make it easier, and to stop the crying of people that simply can't hack it against veteran players that have devoted tons of time to learning a game and working their characters skills and abilities up to max.
That word, is TRAMMEL.
I've been playing DFO for about two weeks on NA-1. I played on EU-1 at release and wasn't all that impressed. So now I'm starting over. I have a job, a wife, kids, and not a ton of time to devote to playing like I used to when I would macro 3 UO accounts at once. I'm a member of a decent sized clan with our own city. We get 3-5 raids nightly, usually by well geared, well developed tight knit groups of far more experienced players. We get rolled quite often. Do I get frustrated that I can't compete with these other players? Of course I do. Do I want them to change the game just because my new chracter can't compete? Of course not. I know that after a while my character WILL be able to compete. I'll have a sense of accomplishment after doing so as well. If I wanted to play a game where everyone is equal, I'd fire up my ps3 andplay modern warfare or any of the other flavors of fps games available. I don't. I loved making up characters in UO, and prided myself on how much quicker I could get a new character at a competative level than it took me when I first started. Not because they changed the game, but because i spent time learning the BEST ways to raise skill the quickest.
This is not a 1v1 game, and veterans should not be penalized for all the hard work they put into their characters, by the game devs changing the game to appease some crying newbs. Too bad, shoulda bought the game sooner if you were worried about being competative at this point. I could go on and on, but I will just refer to my opening statement. There needs to be a limit to the QQing about how hard darkfall is. QQing destroyed UO and I don't want it to happen to my new favorite game. As a 2 week player still grinding my skills, I'm having a blast, and not going to bitch.
If you don't like it, perhaps darkfall isn't for you. Darkfall was made for people like me, and i'm perfectly happy with the way things are.
veterans should not be penalized for all the hard work they put into their characters, by the game devs changing the game to appease some crying newbs.
I don`t get it why you think we veterans get a penalty if you got a decent char after 3 months and not a year.
Take a look at the armor and weapon your char is weilding. I bet your`re not running around in plate with enchanted helm and chest, R50 weapons with q3 enchant, enchanted R80 staff, major pots, R50 bow, hundreds of regs and two horses. I do.
I bet your bank isn`t filled with thousands of ingots, wood, regs, 10 ready bags, 100 of each major pot, 15 k arrows, 100 k gp, thousands of enchanting mats, 150 horses and more stuff I can think of. My bank is.
I bet your char can`t craft R50 weapons, R50 armor, R50 bows, got in 100 tailoring, alchemy, jewelcrafting and can make q3 enchants. My char can.
That mr New Player is my reward for playing a year. I wouldn`t mind a bit if you got a good char fast. Infact I would be very, very happy if you did.
Because it starts as a trickle, and ends up as a flood. Sweeping game changes rarely if ever end up actually improving the game. MMO's by nature are there to afford a sense of accomplishment. Through hard work on your character, you feel like you've acheived something. If there is no work involved in character development, then what is the reward? Games like WoW which I ended up playing for roughly three months before acheiving max level, doing my raiding and getting my purples, only to end up bored and looking for something else. If people in darkfall can make up a char, and within 3 months, geared properly own much of the server, do you not think that they too will end up bored with it? loggin out to play call of duty? Character development is a fundamental part of any mmo, and is part of the reason mmos exist. You feel an affinity for you character after working so hard to get past that hump of being a human meat shield to a grizzled vet capapble of destroying his opponents. If character development becomes little more than choosing what your characters name and appearance is, what is to differentiate mmos from any other multiplayer fragfest?
I understand your point of perhaps inviting faster skill gain on newer characters so that you have more challenging opponents to face, but my point is, somewhere there is a line between working for something and having it handed to you, and the more people who complain about how hard it is to develop their characters, the fuzzier that line becomes until the new players that you attract will have a low retention rate.
If people want to jump right in, and 1v1 a year old character right from the start then they need to find a game that is designed that way. MMO's are not meant to be that way.
I make sure every moment im playing, im gaining some skill or stat. I dont craft nearly as much as i harvest. Used to farm wood, now i focus on stone/iron if possible. I have 2 types of harvest implement on me at all times. I also fight mobs that require me to hit them many many times. Generally i use an r20 sword on iklits or other mob of similar durability. Takes about 8-12 hits to kill them i would estimate.
I work a full time job that is 40ish hours and a part time that is about 10-12/week. My gf is student teaching and taking classes, so she hasnt required a ton of my attention lately.
Wow, a lot has changed in a year, I see. Right before release, any post suggesting it should take more than a couple of weeks to become competitive in pvp would be flamed to death. Now, a lot of the players who would do the flaming are veterans who are protecting their time investment so the opposite view is the norm.

I started DF on 1/11/10 and in 1 month i am sitting at 49 str 43 vit and 44 wis. I have 2h axe mastery to 65 as well as sharpshooter to 76 all done without macroing of any kind. By the 3rd month I should be sitting at roughly 65 to 70 in those 3 stats.
The game is fine and where it needs to be. Its the people that honestly cant handle this type of game that doesnt like it. people who want fast and easy as a "norm" and people who blame everyone or everything else as to why they arent as good as the guy who just killed them.
In 1 month I am averaging almost 50% of my PvP fights as wins. next month itll be more than that and so on. I am tho, realistic and know that I will never win them all. Theres always someone better than you out there.

Go play another game instead of trying to change this one.
this.

LOL, im glad you think so.
Who are these veterans you speak of?
