Kjarl has a good point when it comes to ad placement vs monthly cost. If MxO is making money on the side by selling advertisements, it's wholly appropriate to drop the price because that money offsets the cost of monthly maintenance. I think ads make total sense in MxO, but I'd like to see them benefit the game more (ie dropping the cost) if implemented.

I don't think it will hold up to the cinematic world of The Matrix, just like SWG didn't really match the movies that well. Already, the city atmosphere in MxO is lacking. The cityscape is well-designed, but it doesn't feel alive.

I partly agree with this, now MxO is supposed to pretty much be identical to current day cities so current day adds should be able to fit into the context of this and work in. On the other hand I really dont think adds can fit into MxO at the moment. Now, when you immediately get into the game you'll think to yourself, "Wow, this is a huge, well thought out city" especially when you have the pedestrians and cars on, but after a couple days you'll start to notice something, the city is filthy, and the city is ugly, and it all starts to look the same. Hell, even the grass looks dirty. MxO ceneraly lacks some serious vibrance that makes other games feel real and alive. Yes, I do know that cities are like that, but some aren't, and every town looks alike, dirty, depressed, ugly. Now, bright flashy adds would not fit into the ghetto this game calls a city, maybe if they added more area's they were more modern, and hospitable, then maybe, just maybe the adds would make sense.

Been downtown or international much? Doubt it.

P.S. It's suppose to look the way it is. Read the design interviews at GameSpy. It's meant to be gritty, depressing and intimidating. Though downtown is quite majestic at times.

And I find it immensely unlikely that MXO will fail on any level. You can call me a fanboy all you want. I really don't care. You only care to read my posts when I'm responding to something negatively, so you can call me on it. You don't read any of my other threads, or participate in any positive discussion. I have many qualms with the game but theres not much reason to complain about issues that could be moot by launch. (read: control issues, I hated the jerkyness of MXO controls -- theyre fixedi n the next patch coming up, so much for that)

Thats the kind of response I was expecting when you know im right. Maybe im not a fanboy -- you ever thought about that? Maybe im always right? I don't mean that arrogantly -- I mean in regards to MXO. If you think im such a fanboy you'd probably have to believe I know a LOT about the game. MAybe I just speak out of experience amongst a crowd who has none or little?

Every negative post in regards to MXO that I've responded to has been posted by someone who either has vastly different tastes that dont match up with what MXO is offering (No fault of either the software / design or the player in question) or someone who just really doesn't know what they're talking about.

Maybe if you take the time to realize this -- you'll understand im not a fanboy, im just right. I have two big issues with MXO right now:

Memory costs being fucked and tightening your loadouts towards specialization (Hybrids are basically no longer possible at the moment)

And clothing enhancements. Clothing have specific buffs, not buffs that can be added to any clothing. It's not modular when it should be, so you have peoplew ho dress the same. Recently we have a massive imbalance in clothing buffs where these purple pants provide a whole lot of combat tactic buffs, so everyone was wearing them. I don't like the system, and I've heard from thep owers that be that it may go modular after live. So I'm not bitching about these things. It was the first time we ever got craftable enhanced clothing, so it hadnt even hit a balance pass yet, no reason to bitch about it. As for the system itself, ive heard it might go modular after launch so again, no reason to bitch about it.

I've mentioned in threads I didnt like the jerky controls, but that issues been fixed. Beyond that any issues I have with the game are general nitpicks that don't detract from my experience. I know this post might come off as arrogant but im not going to play humble when you guys attack me like sharks at any opportunity you get. I am right -- and im not going to guilt trip, so you can go outside and play hide and go fuck yourself for all I care.

Well not to stir the pot but in a way its already failing as people are canceling pre-orders. The training videos that the Devs created have started a back fire effect as people who see how combat works have started to rethink thier purchase. Then with more and more people bringing news of in game ads to places like this even more are starting to rethink it.

Now do I think it will be a barren waste land? No, name recognition will see that it sells big. As laggy as SWG is for almost everyone I know, including people with 2gigs of ram who run EQ2 rather smoothe on balanced settings, it still has a large following, due in large part to name recognition.

I'll dignify that one. I'm an asshole -- I don't represent my entire community. If you're weak minded enough to generalize an entire community based on one self-proclaimed asshole, then I really don't know what to tell you. I have lots of good posts on the MXO board, I've posted many times here on General and MXO General in response to flame-baiting threads trying to make it quite clear I didnt want to start a big arguement. When celebrities have done good all their life, and slip up once, they get reamed for it. It's the same everywhere. I KNOW I hae a lot of good discussion here, I've posted calmly and well composed, and intelligently about many things. I have my fair share of asshole responses as well. But no one here ever took note of my good posts, or anyone elses for that matter. I see lots of great posts, their authors dont have any notoriety, which is fine, who cares, its a message board. But I do, and why? Because im a 'rabid fanboy' and an asshole. It's always fun to bash the asshole when one is insecure, stroke their own egos if you will.

I'd really like to not continue responses. I make myself look more stupid by responding after saying I wouldn't I felt that one was necessary to address though.

P.S. I'm not looking to be noticed / remembered. So don't misconstrue what I've said above in attempts to call me an attention whore :P I'm simply giving reason to why anyone even knows my name, when if I had never been an ass about anything no one would know the difference.

It's like asking for perfect code. Are there *any* bugs in the game? It has already failed on being bug free. Will coding new things into the game introduce bugs? It will fail again.

Every game has its good and bad points, its just the way of it.

A fanboy is someone who just refuses to accept that. Find me any game with no problems and no failings. Hell find me any *program* more complex than "hello world", lol.

To me Sygmas opitimizes the definition of the word fanboy. This post is a classic example. Someone dare speak evil of Matrix and the very first post to respond....Sygmas. In fact, take a look at any negative post for Matrix, yep the very first to respond every single time is Sygmas. He must troll these boards 24/7 looking for anything mentioning Matrix sheesh.

Its more of a preference thing but the Matrix is not in those categories. Its not even a mmorpg really. The game is just so terrible. Watching Sygmas argue Matrix's merits is like watching dog fight over a smelly dead cat. You're trying to show the dog you have a nice t-bone, but the dog thinks the smelly carcass in its mouth is somehow better ?

I'm going to attempt to get things back on topic by addressing the in-game advertising topic.

Unfortunately I believe it's a trend that's here to stay and if anything will probably only increase. There won't be a reduction in price based on the earnings this generates because the people running the game's goal is to maximize profit and not keep your subscription price down. They will set the subscription price as high as the market will bear. The only way this advertising would lead to a reduction in rates would be if there was significant competition in the market pushing prices down. Then companies with advertising revenue would be in a better position to offer lower rates.

Currently, the MMOG market is in a growth phase coupled with the fact that games are not perfectly substituable goods (EQ2 is not a perfect substitution for WoW) means they are not just competing based on price.

Another side effect of advertising is that games where you can place adds will have an advantage over ones where they would not fit in. For example you can do this with MXO but obviously not with WoW. If you don't think this is significant, this kind of pressure is already exerted in TV programs. This is one of the main reasons why there are a lot fewer period type shows (like westerns) then there used to be. It is not because people's tastes have changed but because you can't do any product placement with those type of shows therefore they are automatically at a disadvantage.

I think MxO is probaly setting a record. The record is the mmorpg with the highest budget(and a ton of press) being least anticipationed. It doesnt even make the top 5 on mmorpg.com and 95 percent of comments I have seen on the game are negative. But either way, sygmas should recieve "Fanboy of the year award"

i'm pissed off at MxO...i didnt want to go trolling, but i've been wanting to vent off some steam about matrix online...i've been waiting for matrix to shape up since september, but i dont think its going to happen unless they have some secret patch out there to make this game fun...

at this point the game's not fun....what i dont like: the jumping situation, bad guys standing around doing nothing. ugly interface, finding bad guys to grind on, grinding in matrix..i find theres no real point at lvling, and i know thats weird, but when i play matrix i start to think of other games i should be playing to lvl up my people(my characters)

i do like the ideas they have with the abilities and i also dig the fighting.....i like some of the clothes and guns and stuff too

i luv the matrix story and movies, but i'm just not into this game.....i want to buy it to just to see if they add anything to the release....maybe 6months down the road this game might be phat

i also dont understand how people can luv this game at this point, just seems like theres nothing to do

dont fuckin flame me either with yur pro mxo propaganda, but correct me if i'm wrong or not understanding something ^^

Seems like a bunch of you like to stroke your egos trying to make fun of me. When I said MXO wouldn't fail on any level, doesn't mean it wouldn't have any flaws. Has lots of flaws right now, but will it fail because of them? In my opinion, no. RPGs have levels of success, and two big parts of those levels are the combat depth and the storyline. Both which are a main focus of the game itself. Then there is commercial success, which the name I guess guarantees. Innovation is a level of success, it doesn't fail there.

Does it give you a hard on to call me a fanboy? Fanboys don't blast the devs when they fuck up, and I do it quite often. Fanboys take it up the ass when the devs do something stupid. And agree with them all the time no matter what. If I was a fanboy I'd be so proudly, I am not. So stop calling me that. Thanks.

I'm trying to promote the game, there is like, no one else here who does that. So I have to take a much more aggressive role to get the word out. If you want to sit your fat lard asses around and giggle to each other about how much a fanboy I am, do it privately because I don't want to hear it.
