All my friends stop playing so I did too.

I guess my friends contributed for it - they were already lvl 80 since a long time, and were chasing the carrot on the stick since before that. And they talked about it (getting new and better gear) as if it was the best thing in the world. I was trying to imagine that being fun but doing dungeons with the new pug tool only proved to me that it was a repetitive, tedious and boring task.
I left WoW and didn't even return to the genre. I'm happy doing something else (like painting minatures for Warhammer 40.000 wargame) and I don't miss any of it. I'll return to the genre, but only to try the hardcore sandboxes, like EVE and Darkfall.

Once you play a mmo for the sole purpose of item collection its time to go.

When you do comeback do some research and try your best to not play a game that purely focuses on item collection.

It's souless and a horrible design decision by most of todays themepark devs.

Every MMO is about collecting Wealth. Just different MMO's hide it in different ways. Yes, even sandbox MMO's require you to collect something in order to make progress in the game.

To me it just sounds like you do not like MMO's in general. Heck, maybe a FPS style game would be better for you since RPG's revolve around collecting items for your character as you progress in the story. Its one of the very basic fundemental items of a RPG that goes back to the days of Ultima 1 and Zelda.

Item or armor set collection gets old very quickly. Sure every mmo lets you collect something but certain mmos dont make it a focus its just some things you do besides your main goal.

MMOs that you play that have more of a player set goal have been much more suited to my playstyle.

I wanna pvp, I dont want to collect sets 1 through whatever to pvp, I want to pve but I dont want to feel the armor is the only reason i do it.

Mess with more open ended games and not just linear stuff and you tend to feel that way.

IN my games items are made by players, so the gear isnt the carrot and its refreshing.

Gimmicky boss fights are what made me leave.  I actually enjoyed everything else about the game (except PvP, I stayed far away from that).

I quickly grew tired of the stupid gimmicks in every fight, forcing you to learn rediculous patterns, mislabeled as "strategy".  Does it take real "strategy" to move to the left, then the right, then the left etc. while mashing your one or two abilities of choice?

I wanted a game with real strategy, not gimmicks, so I moved on.

    Anyway....
I'm just seriously burnt out. I don't have any feelings of HATRED for the game.

    I didn't know you were a mother ... and a lesbian....

For those who don't know .... the original GirlGeek IS a woman in her 40's and a mother of 3, and she still plays WOW.

But her husband apparently can't stop making posts like the above.

Hence the odd twists of reasoning in the yellow part ... which always seem to contradict each other.

It must be a great household up there. :)

First of all...good job quoting out of context and....

    For your information, young whippersnapper....

I AM a mother and a lesbian. And yes, the one child that still lives with Sharon and I, is 19 and in college with a 3.8 GPA,  our middle son is in the military, and our oldest, our daughter, just got married last December to a police officer and is studying law, with the intentions of becoming an attorney. AND...... there is no "husband" in sight. I'd say we DO have a great household! Thank you for noticing!

If you don't like my opinions in regards to your pet game...I truthfully could not care less. But making comments like this one, isn't going to get you anything but banned for a few days for sexism and homophobia. What....did you assume lesbians can't be mothers? And I left WoW months ago.

Perhaps your response was an attempt to be funny....or cute?  Well, in my opinion....double fail.  Sorry.  Try again next round.

EDIT: How interesting. I can't find your post now and I wasn't even the one that reported it! :) Sometimes, MMORPG.com admins make me really proud! =D

Fact is, people quit for their own reasons. Whether or not people want to agree with those specific reason is strictly their prerogative. We're autonomous, stop trying to control our reasoning for quitting, or trying to debate the premise on which we quit. You cannot, and will not, change our mind.

  • kingtommyboykingtommyboy Member Posts: 543

    a few reasons:

    - First, I invested a lot of my time in playing the game, and I actually had other stuff to do in RL

    - My guild, once one big and nice group felt apart, a few people had to quit the game due to RL issues, a few others went to another server or other guilds with more raiding, lol.

    - The community, I used to be a tank, and I used to like it, but I felt people only want to 'achieve' in wow, not to have fun. In my opinion the achievement system is the worsest thing ever created in wow.

    - The been there done that feeling.. I've done it all.. or atleast most of it. Cleared raid and normal dungeons, got the gear I wanted,... I started a few toons , but I just got bored

=> so it was time for me to move on. I bought guild wars the complete edition, and I have fun with it , cause a few of my friends are still playing it. And I also try some other games from time to time. At the moment I'm downloading the WAR trial. I wanna know what this game is all about ^^

Mostly the "been there, done that" feeling many others have expressed.

Then there is the, "I'm already ready for my first mount?" part. It moves too fast now, in every aspect, for my taste.

The knowing. You know what I mean. Knowing the uber gear you now have, that you've worked so long and hard for, won't be worth spit in the next expansion. Knowing that while 1000 gold is a considerable amount now, when the next expansion comes, it will be poverty; a vial will cost 1000 gold. Knowing that at the next level cap, your choices of activities will be, dailies, poorly balanced PvP, or "how fast can we get through this?" dungeons and raids. Knowing that no matter how god-like you may have made yourself during the endgame of this period of World of Warcraft, when you step through that gate to the next period of World of Warcraft, Blizzard will force you to be as low as anyone else passing through that gate.

The final nail in the coffin? Getting a wheel barrow full of tokens for sneezing in a dungeon and then being able to trade said tokens in for the latest and greatest gear in the game. Nothing has value anymore. I have my Tier 4 and Tier 5 items stored in my bank still, because they have nostalgia. I remember the fight against The Curator where I got my Tier 4 gloves and how another member of my guild thought he had won them, even though I had more DKP. I remember the fight against Prince, where I got my Tier 4 headpiece, because it was the first time we downed him, and our tank had died late in the third phase, and we barely finished Prince off, but we got him. I remember all the shock and the gasps when I won the Dragonspine Trophy for what seemed to many others a ridiculous amount of DKP. But, I have no nostalgia for my two pieces of Tier 9 gear I earned in a weekend of joining the Dungeon Finder. I know we did dungeons and we did them fast. When I had enough tokens I flew to the vendor and bought my Tier 9 items. I linked them in guild chat and a few people replied, "Gratz." It was not the same.

If I ever return to the World of Warcraft, which at this point, I doubt, those two Tier 9 items won't end up in my bank. I won't waste the valuable space on them. They have no story attached to them. Other than they being the reason I said, "This isn't worth it anymore."

I have been playing basically since launch, so I just needed a new game to play. The only reason I re-subbed 6 months ago was because a few friends finally started playing. However, they left after a while and that prompted me to leave to.

Good game, just getting a bit dated for me.

That bit in gold up there....

That really almost choked me up. I too have my lower level tier sets in the bank. I remember the first item I actually WON at The Eye in Tempest Keep. I think I was the last person in the entire guild to get my tier 5 shoulders, and I could not have been happier. I remember all those fights (Curator, Prince, Maiden....Kara was so cool at first) and so many other raids at TK and BT and all the others....and there was time and effort put into obtaining that gear, just as I said in my previous post.

Getting really great things now....just isn't so great. It doesn't feel exciting like it did back then. It just feels....I don't know....stale and somehow....cheap. And that is ultimately why I had to say goodbye to it all. There are just other games that are more fun to me now....games that still have that sense of "woohoo, look what I got!"

Anyway, what you said....fit perfectly with how I also feel and think about it. Great response, thank you for posting it.

The gold, yeah, hit the spot. I agree with both of you. I remember downing the first boss in BWL pre-TBC. Felt great, and when we linked things in guild the, "OMG WOW DUDE GRATS!!!!" from 40 people just felt like such an accomplishment. Now its wow you farmed all your emblems for 2 months, Grats...

That appeal, the luster, the shine, it is just gone right now. I hope It can come back.

The monotony, lack of innovation after Burning Crusade and the elitist retards with their "LF healer 10 ony 5500 GS".

Basically game got stale and the community got worse and worse. Freaking mods. Things like Damage Meters and that gear score crap ruined the game.

Back in the day, it was a great feeling of accomplishment to down something. Now it's just relief, like a long day at work is over.

Screw that. The Old Republic's new system will hopefully weed out that crappy feeling. Either way I'm going to enjoy levelign a character in a MMO for once.

I remember running about 4 months of molten core before my first 2 hander dropped. It was the legendary reagent, and people were screaming down vent. I blew about half a year's worth of dkp. I had random people I've never heard of whispering me "congratulations, mate! :D". It felt awesome.  After much grinding and help from my guild I finally made my two hander. It took months but I felt such achievement.

Two months or so down the line TBC comes out and greens are dropping left right and centre that are miles better than my "legendary" weapon.

I miss old AVs, they were epic. I miss 40 man raids, I miss Ironforge, I miss the hard to obtain gear, I miss exclusive classes to each faction, I miss the sense of achievement.

When WotLK released I gave Warcraft another shot, it's changed beyond recognition for me. I may have came back at a bad time, but the lag was unforgivable, failure to launch instances, DKs facerolling everything, everyone clad in epics... No ty.

I'm sure many people will continue to play and enjoy the game. For me however, the warcraft that I knew and loved is long gone.

Two months or so down the line TBC comes out and greens are dropping left right and centre that are miles better than my "legendary" weapon. ( that is what happens when a game uses "loot" as the carrot for everyone to chase after.. what did you expect?.. Now you have higher uber loot to chase after.. RIGHT?)
I miss old AVs, they were epic.( if you like 4 hour long battles.. lol I like the ones that complete in under 20 minutes) I miss 40 man raids, I miss Ironforge, I miss the hard to obtain gear,( define hard to obtain? are you refering to the uber i have no life raid drops? ) I miss exclusive classes to each faction, I miss the sense of achievement. ( achievements are still there.. actually tons of them more then the original release.. unless you are talking about excluse achievements.. which one running around bragging what they have and others don't)   Isn't that sorta elitist snobish?
When WotLK released I gave Warcraft another shot, it's changed beyond recognition for me. I may have came back at a bad time, but the lag was unforgivable, ( that sounds like a ISP or computer problem.. no WoW's fault ) failure to launch instances, ( sometimes instances do become FULL during peak hours.. but I havent' had that issue but once in awhile.. but I hear some battlegroups have that issue more often ) DKs facerolling everything, everyone clad in epics... No ty.
I'm sure many people will continue to play and enjoy the game. For me however, the warcraft that I knew and loved is long gone. Actually I feel the wow game is worse for raid content.. meaning that is ALL that is left to do.. WoW's issues to most that is there little to no "non raiding end game".. /shrug

For me it was culmination of changes the last of which was the cross server looking for a group system . Good idea in theory but in practice it centralised the game to the city areas .
I felt at the end of the day Warcraft became less of  massive multiplayer virtual world and more a mutliplayer game where most players ended up going to the  instances and missed what 90 percent of the game had to offer .
I can't see Cataclysm reversing anything drastically . Although i think there will be a brief period when it will entice people to explore the world again but it wont last .

Biggest General Reason - The game has become to easy when WOTLK was introduced

    More Direct Reasons -

Dungeons are not fun and engaging any longer ( No crowd control just zerging)

Solo isn't dangerous at all now, no chance of dying

Classes have become to similar ( I enjoyed some distinction)

    Dungeon tiered system

Epic loot isn't epic loot anymore its common

Number 1 reason: Added an item shop on top of my existing sub, that did the game in for me

I don't care what is offered in the shop, I dont' support games that double dip. I pay monthly for the ENTIRE game.

Totally agree. I'm still sick that they brought out burning crusade and added levels.

Complete waste of time levelling, the older dungeons and lore were heaps better.

Wow is like any other hobby and anyone with a hobby knows the amount of effort and time it takes in your life.

People's interest can range from spending their time and money collecting marbles to condition and training for your favorite recreational sport. Nothing is really free and anything you choose to be good at requires time, patients, and practice. After that's said and done people choose to be with those selective groups of elitest or your casual volleyball players(as an example). You get these same groups in Wow regardless of where their progression stands in the game.

Millions of players world wide and many leave WoW for various reasons. Our experience is good or bad and at times folks can relate to them.

I personally have enjoyed my time playing WoW even with all the changes from Vanilla WoW to the Linch King I can’t really complain I just got bored. I have since made investments to tryout older to newer MMOs but have yet to find one to fill my time and that empty void. I guess I am on board with those who are still waiting for the next best thing. For me, maybe it will be the new SW:TOR.

MMORPGs aren't easy, You're just too PRO!

I got a few reasons.. just opinions however, so you might have a different view, thats fine!

    1. Arena

    2. Removement of Rank14 system in TBC

    3. Removement of BG weapons in WOTLK

    4. Forced to do PVE  or Arena to get better Weapons

So the biggest reason for me is that wow dosnt have the playstyle i want to play anymore!

Logg inn - Play Bg - Logg Out, and get all i need by doing just that and nothing else.

Thats maby why i went to war, but thats a different story!

Well i quit for a couple of reasons, one being that im a pvp person and BC just went backwards imo, ppl wearing full arena gear and had soo much resilience you couldn't do jack against them.  Vanilla wow pvp was all about skill, yes you had the blue pvp set and the epic Marshall set but all they gave were more health, it was still based on skill and knowing your char inside out.  BC comes along and in comes resilience which ruined pvp imo along with the fact that most pvp guilds died and once you got your full arena season 1 set i think it was through bg farming or through arena, that was it, no fun at all in it.  I did some raiding but thought that the raids were short and lacked that wow factor like in vanilla wow.

I lasted through to Lich King but again the pvp just went backwards yet again.  And Lich King was the first time we saw a reincarnated Naxxramas, exactly the same as what i experienced in vanilla wow...  In the Lich King expansion i decided to go pve raiding as pvp was effectively dead, but while raiding was good you could tell it had been dumbed down so the casual players could see the entire instances.  What killed my rogue was that all the mobs in the raids did soo much aoe dmg all the melee would die within a couple of mins of the fight, soo got to a part - on my server at least - where raid leaders would only take warrior melee dps, due to them wearing plate and being more durable, even if there dps couldn't match mine...  Soo i changed to a shaman, always enjoyed the class and went to enhancement first, until my guild said that they didn't enhancement shammies only resto shammies - soo i changed to being resto and ended up seeing all end game content which was cool but again the raids were aimed at casual players and didn't require that much tactics either.

I guess what really killed WoW for me aside from the obvious dumbing down of end game content to help Blizzard get more new subs in was the daily grind once you hit lvl80... At the end of the day vanilla wow was perfect imo, you had your pve and you had your pvp, it catered for both types of players very well, ever since BC its just been pve orientated - not even arena sparked an interest in many of my pvp friends...

Will i reactivate my account for Cataclysm - nope!  even if they are bringing back pvp ranks and guild progression based on pvp etc, they should've done that change in Lich King and now it seems that they realise there game has become very pve orientated so are trying to woo pvp players back... im afraid it ain't gonna work Blizzard, i got a rank 12 Marshall already and i was proud, extremely proud to get that rank as it took time and effort and very few on my server got to that rank... there new ranking system no doubt will cater for the casual players so anyone will be able to hit max rank in Cataclysm is what i believe will be the case...

Wow is dieing a slow death, its hanging on by its finger nails and now its become a cash machine that Blizzard want to cash in on while they still can.. i'm sure that they will hold back content from Cata to try and get another expansion out, afterall the lvl cap is only 85 this time, previous expansion packs have been 70 and 80.  Also they seem to be aiming there media PR towards the fact they are redoing the starter areas and guild progression, well im sorry Blizzard but Aion has had a guild progression system since launch and as for the starter areas - just proves that you have run out of ideas, anyone for lvl85 Onyxia?  lvl85 BWL? lol

    1. Arena

The PvP ranks are coming back in CATA and this time the competitive PvP is based  on guild play and guild PvP progression.

Also log in - play BG - log out - is quite some fun to do in the daily PvP quests these days ... as you get to earn Arena points by winning the daily BG quest.

So your motivation of why you gave up is suddenly - since 4 weeks - no longer valid.

Nothing to worry about, these things (changes) happen to all old WOW players who simply seem to play in the past.

Stopped playing it 6 moths ago, sence there whasnt really mutch left to do!

but if the community mentality is still totaly objective and egoistic, i thik i rather pass even thinking going back to wow..

Mostly because in most mmos i played sence than i have had the feeling of being welcomed and seen as equal player, something i cant really say about wow after tbc...it might be because it has so many players, but if many players means that, than it cant really be a good thing can it?

Got tired of having to relearn how to play my toons in a PvP setting every month because of some assclown going onto the forums and yelling NERF to whatever class they couldn't figure out how to win against in PvP. 99% of the time it was people that couldn't figure out how to PvP in the first place so they whined until Blizzard nerfed every class but their's.

The other reason was basically the people. Too many immature, rude, bags of goo living in there parent's basement with an IQ somewhere south of a turnip.

After 5 years I called it quits including pulling it off of the computer.

^ Same here it gets frustrating having to respec and relearn your class because someone complains that a warrior can out DPS a rogue. It's not my fault someone else can't figure out a good spec for their class. This is why I think PvP can't work with themepark games, balance cannot be achived within them when stats are attained primarily through lvl and gear. The only thing that can be done is constant retooling of classes, which only quiets the squeaky cogs. You never achive any balance what so ever.

For me though it only took a year, I quit before BC.

it was just the same thing over and over but they started making it easier and easier. i got bored with it off and on back in vanilla, quit for a bit then BC came out and i started up again lasted awhile then got bored off and on again but didn't last as long as i did at launch. WOTLK comes out i came back lasted MAYBE 2 weeks and quit again just couldn't get into it at all in WOTLK.

So what made you give up Warcraft ?

Mainly SSDD. Stamina, lack of actual rare items, resilience, repetition and my account being hacked was the last straw. Finally killed my addiction after I deleted all characters on all servers and canceled.

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!
